NEW Volkswagen ID.7 GTX Tourer Revealed

Just last week, the launch of the ID.7 Tourer caught everyone's attention, and now, the introduction of the ID.7 GTX Tourer is stirring excitement as the lineup's most powerful variant.
This vehicle, VW's pioneering electric wagon designed for performance, boasts a robust 335 horsepower courtesy of two electric motors. This setup enables it to have all-wheel drive capabilities. The rear motor is the main powerhouse with 282 horsepower, while the front motor contributes an additional 107 horsepower. VW explains that the front motor is activated as needed and springs to action almost instantly. The power distribution is finely managed through electronic differential locks and a specially designed AWD controller.
The innovative dual-motor configuration of the ID.7 GTX Tourer allows it to tow up to 3,086 pounds, a significant increase from the 2,204 pounds that its single-motor, rear-wheel-drive counterpart, introduced last month, can handle. Unlike the basic model, which is equipped with a 77.0-kilowatt-hour battery, the GTX version comes standard with a more potent 86.0-kilowatt-hour battery. This larger battery can be charged at a rapid rate of up to 200 kilowatts using direct current (DC), achieving a charge from 10 to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes. While VW hasn't specified the maximum range, it's speculated that the GTX, due to its enhanced capabilities, may not be as range-efficient as the rear-wheel-drive model that boasts a 426-mile range in the WLTP cycle.
VW has remained tight-lipped about the GTX's performance specifics. However, based on our calculations, the acceleration from 0 to 62 mph could be in the high five-second to low six-second bracket, given that the standard ID.7 hatchback with rear-wheel drive and 282 horsepower takes six and a half seconds for the same sprint.
In terms of aesthetics, the ID.7 GTX Tourer shares the sportier appearance introduced with the ID.3 GTX today. This includes redesigned bumpers, glossy black details, and unique wheels. Standard are 20-inch alloy wheels, though there's the option to upgrade to 21-inch alloys. The interior is enhanced with red accents and GTX branding on both the seats and steering wheel.
Opting for the GTX doesn't mean compromising on space. It retains the same 21.3 cubic feet of cargo space as the regular ID.7 Tourer, which expands to 60.5 cubic feet with the rear seats down. Additionally, the electric wagon can be fitted with an optional panoramic sunroof that switches from opaque to transparent, adding to its appeal.
However, VW has confirmed that the standard ID.7 Tourer won't be available in the United States, so it's unlikely the GTX version will make its way there either. In Europe, the electric sports wagon is set to hit the market this spring.
