In other words, no surprise. Toyota, Honda, Mazda, and Subaru are the best choices. I own a 2020 Honda CR-V EX 2WD 1.5T. Admittedly, I was skeptical about the 1.5T at first, but after 30K miles, I'm very satisfied, and I haven't had any issues after owning it for over 3 years.

I don’t joke with my Venza. I got the 2022 Venza last year, and since then I have nothing to complain about. It’s such a very lovely car, I don’t worry about gas because it’s so so fuel efficient. With less than $20 gas, I travel to NY and back from Philly. The car is so underrated in the market.

Venzas were once Toyota's more mediocre offerings, and completely overshadowed by the Rav4, until they were overhauled to what you see today. While excellent cars, they run on the smaller side and are designed more for singles or older married couples.

I originally considered one of these especially for the gas mileage, but dislike what I've heard about the larger display being unintuitive and cluttered with some flush "buttons" for things hard buttons would be easier to use. Also the cargo capacity is much larger on some small SUVs. The swoopy design does introduce some compromises.

My Mom has a 2019 Forester Touring and I have a 2022 Outback Premium (with all the options) and I would not call the fuel economy so-so for their size. Oddly my Mom's Forester gets a bit worse mileage than my Outback does. I live in a rural area with lots of twisty roads and not a lot of highway cruising and my average fuel economy is about 29.8mpg which I think is great considering I'm not on the highway. On the highway I get 33-34 mpg whereas my Mom's Forester gets about 30-31. I think its pretty good! Neither of these are small cars.

I’ve never had any problems with Toyota’s. I bought a Honda new in 1990 and I had a lot of problems with it, so after 2 years of ownership, I sold it and went back to Toyota. Then last December (2022), I bought my first ever Subaru. Now that I have less than 14K miles and the CVT is going belly up and needs a new one, I’ll have Subaru replace the CVT, then sell it ASAP and get my butt back to Toyota. I’ll drive my pickup until the new models come out and then I’ll wait until the new model is a year old to get the bugs worked out. the ONE item you should NEVER be bringing up in any review is RESALE value. it has NOTHING to do with purchase cost, safety, drivability, reliability, or anything that REALLY matters. it is simply a resale measurement, a subjective value, and should never be considered...except when looking for used vehicles in which case this is A PLUS. and please...never use Consumer Reports as a fact for your data. anybody who studies Consumer Reports compared to real repair data knows their consumer questionnaires are simply late and horribly error-prone.

You do know that the Kona is a subcompact SUV, while Forester is larger, with more cargo capacity.

@@ozzierabbit587 I've owned 4 Subaru Foresters. So, I'm very aware of cargo/space etc. My lifestyle has changed. No longer need cargo space. What I wanted was a modern, good looking SUBCOMPACT. Got a 2024 KONA SEL. It's impressive tech engineering & style: Worth every penny and much more.

Honda and Toyota. They are the best! Most reliable and inexpensive maintenance. They don't have bells and whistles as higher end brands. But I can live without those.

I don't consider the Venza a compact. Same with a Rav 4 or CRV. How stupid do you have to be to buy a Heep? Jeep 😂
@ozzierabbit587

The Venza is sized between a Rav4 and Highlander, so it's not a compact. The Rav4 and CR-V are getting bigger over the years but are still considered compacts.

@@ozzierabbit587 Virtually no difference between a Venza and a Gen 5 Rav 5 in size and its the same powertrain. I bet the R4 actually has more cargo room. Venza has a few upscale features from the Rav 4....thats the difference. That's also why the Venza is history for the Toyota Crown

In winter, if your coffee gets cold, cover the cup, place it on the cup holder and drive the car for 15 minutes with a fully warmed up engine. Enjoy hot coffee!

l I agree with the top 5 best buys, but I completely disagree with the top 5 worst buys, volkswagen tiguan. I'm from Europe, but not Germany, we have frost, rain, winter is bad for cars. Tiguan is popular in Europe and in our country, it is comfortable, has a good diesel engine, has enough economical gasoline and has a plug in hybrid. Comfortable seats for tall people. Definitely a better choice than Suzuki S cross, Seat Ateca or Skoda karoq (the last two are cheaper, have stiffer chassis and don't have that comfortable seat for taller people. These are simpler versions of the Tiguan, only of a different maturity. 100 percent better car and more reliable than Renault Austral, Renault Arkana. O Grandland is worst car then Tiguan. For our conditions, Tiguan better than Peugeot 3008 or Citroen C5 Air Cross, French cars don't like serious winter, poor conditions. I would certainly choose the Tiguan above this choice for any summer conditions, because it is a better car than the ones I have listed to buy.

A turbo charged engine just doesn’t have the same reliability & longevity as non-turbo engine. Mainly due to oil dilution, cylinder wash, carbon buildup on intake valves, increased temperature & pressure within the engine. There is no getting around the fact that these technologies could introduce the potential for these problems. I am sure some engines will last although the potential for these problems is there.
