In other words, no surprise. Toyota, Honda, Mazda, and Subaru are the best choices. I own a 2020 Honda CR-V EX 2WD 1.5T. Admittedly, I was skeptical about the 1.5T at first, but after 30K miles, I'm very satisfied, and I haven't had any issues after owning it for over 3 years.

@@desi4lyfe379 I am not aware of any reviewer that goes over 30k miles. I have two vehicles over 250k and my Pilot has 298k. Only Scotty goes past 100k miles and from a brand perspective, its still only the five above and he extols the virtues of Toyota/Lexus at those upper limits. At 300k miles, it is either a commercial vehicle or over 10 years+ old.

I tend to keep my cars. Worry about hybrids battery replacement costs. Appears like EVs, hybrids reach a point in life where battery replacement to the tune of thousands of dollars, or junking the vehicle becomes the only choices. This needs to be included in the cost of ownership, and considered when buying.

My Mom has a 2019 Forester Touring and I have a 2022 Outback Premium (with all the options) and I would not call the fuel economy so-so for their size. Oddly my Mom's Forester gets a bit worse mileage than my Outback does. I live in a rural area with lots of twisty roads and not a lot of highway cruising and my average fuel economy is about 29.8mpg which I think is great considering I'm not on the highway. On the highway I get 33-34 mpg whereas my Mom's Forester gets about 30-31. I think its pretty good! Neither of these are small cars.

I originally considered one of these especially for the gas mileage, but dislike what I've heard about the larger display being unintuitive and cluttered with some flush "buttons" for things hard buttons would be easier to use. Also the cargo capacity is much larger on some small SUVs. The swoopy design does introduce some compromises.

The Honda CR-V is the only SUV covered here that was awarded IIHS Top Safety Pick+ (Plus is new), their highest rating. The Top 2 choices should be Honda CR-V and Toyota Rav4. The Toyota has a better hybrid system, while the Honda has better performance and driving experience. The rest you're just splitting hairs and will come down to personal preference. Both cars are better suited to their target demographic: small families, than the #1 spot Venza.

I'm a 4th Generation Subaru Forester owner. Purchased a 2022 Sport 15 months ago. On November 22nd, 2023 I sold it and purchased a Hyundai Kona AWD SEL. Subaru is safe and reliable. That's where it ends. Over priced, and features are outdated. No bells. No whistles with Subaru. Same old same old. I've outgrown Subaru. RAV 4 have recalls, and feel thin inside. Never owned a Toyota... never will.

You do know that the Kona is a subcompact SUV, while Forester is larger, with more cargo capacity.

@@ozzierabbit587 I've owned 4 Subaru Foresters. So, I'm very aware of cargo/space etc. My lifestyle has changed. No longer need cargo space. What I wanted was a modern, good looking SUBCOMPACT. Got a 2024 KONA SEL. It's impressive tech engineering & style: Worth every penny and much more.

Honda and Toyota. They are the best! Most reliable and inexpensive maintenance. They don't have bells and whistles as higher end brands. But I can live without those.

I don't consider the Venza a compact. Same with a Rav 4 or CRV. How stupid do you have to be to buy a Heep? Jeep 😂
@ozzierabbit587
@ozzierabbit587 5 ай бұрын
The Venza is sized between a Rav4 and Highlander, so it's not a compact. The Rav4 and CR-V are getting bigger over the years but are still considered compacts.

@@ozzierabbit587 Virtually no difference between a Venza and a Gen 5 Rav 5 in size and its the same powertrain. I bet the R4 actually has more cargo room. Venza has a few upscale features from the Rav 4....thats the difference. That's also why the Venza is history for the Toyota Crown

A turbo charged engine just doesn’t have the same reliability & longevity as non-turbo engine. Mainly due to oil dilution, cylinder wash, carbon buildup on intake valves, increased temperature & pressure within the engine. There is no getting around the fact that these technologies could introduce the potential for these problems. I am sure some engines will last although the potential for these problems is there.

l I agree with the top 5 best buys, but I completely disagree with the top 5 worst buys, volkswagen tiguan. I'm from Europe, but not Germany, we have frost, rain, winter is bad for cars. Tiguan is popular in Europe and in our country, it is comfortable, has a good diesel engine, has enough economical gasoline and has a plug in hybrid. Comfortable seats for tall people. Definitely a better choice than Suzuki S cross, Seat Ateca or Skoda karoq (the last two are cheaper, have stiffer chassis and don't have that comfortable seat for taller people. These are simpler versions of the Tiguan, only of a different maturity. 100 percent better car and more reliable than Renault Austral, Renault Arkana. O Grandland is worst car then Tiguan. For our conditions, Tiguan better than Peugeot 3008 or Citroen C5 Air Cross, French cars don't like serious winter, poor conditions. I would certainly choose the Tiguan above this choice for any summer conditions, because it is a better car than the ones I have listed to buy.

From a family friend that works at Honda. The 1.5L Turbo engines still have oil dilution issues. Which the new crv has. Other note. Even some of these Japanese suvs have been down graded by iihs. Look at the 2022 cx5 on iihs. Updated front overlap received a poor rating. But for some reason it wasn’t included in the 2023 score.

This only affects people who drive short distances in cold weather states. Also, seems to have greatly reduced this issue from model year 2020 on.

@@0HOON0 as of the 2022 model year I was told that’s still an issue. I mean countries that have seasonal cold weather are probably more than half of their global market.

No surprises here, avoid American brands and buy Japanese: Subaru, Toyota, Mazda and Honda. I wouldn’t buy a Ford ever again. I had a Focus along time ago and it was the worst car ever.

I’ve got less than 14K miles on my Forester Touring and the horrible CVT already needs to be replaced. So since this is my first Subaru, then Subaru can go 🖕🏽themselves. I’ll have a new transmission installed, sell the Lemon and go back to Toyota
