Great video, it shows and explains a lot that you can't find in other videos. I have a question: where did you get the 'small tsuba stoppers' from?

I have an O Bokken from cold steel I use for strength training as it is heavier than all my wooden bokkens.
@StudentOfWarCustoms
@StudentOfWarCustoms 4 жыл бұрын
Nice! I use the O-Bokken as my go to bokken even when I went to a dojo. I got used to the weight and liked the fact that the O-Bokken doesn’t flex as much so I just used the O-Bokken. Only thing that kinda sucks about the O-Bokken is I still have yet to find an appropriate thing to make a saya out it for it.
@JosephVice
@JosephVice 4 жыл бұрын
@@StudentOfWarCustoms I weight 115 lbs so the O bokken is a little too long for me to use as anything other then strength training. The O bokken is actually heavier than my wooden Suburito (I'm sure I misspelled that)

Your weight doesn’t really have much to do with the length of a sword. If you would prefer a shorter blade though you can always shorten it.

I prefer the old ones as well. Go on ebay, search it and have notifications set for whenever someone lists 1. That's what I do for stuff I want that's discontinued.

looks like the same handle on the katana machete from cold steel, if so that is a beast on the hands without gloves?
@StudentOfWarCustoms
@StudentOfWarCustoms 4 жыл бұрын
Yes same handle, doesn’t feel rough on the hands so far, I’ll be testing it ASAP and I’ll let you know. If it is rough on the hands then I’ll be starting up my belt sander, dremel tool and wood burner lol

Lol good question! I’d do it if it wasn’t for the tendinitis in my elbow. I’ll figure out a good test though.

What are your thoughts on the real swords by cold steel? I have no swords and I’m thinking of getting either a warrior katana or maybe the chisa katana.
@StudentOfWarCustoms
@StudentOfWarCustoms 4 жыл бұрын
Cold steel swords are way too end heavy and the fit and finish is not the best by any means. I used to recommend Hanwei but their quality control has taken a nose dive. I’ve heard good things about hsts though.

Thanks for the info. Years ago I did a little martial arts stuff. I need to start back but I’m very busy. Always loved Japanese style swords. May get something one day.

@@StudentOfWarCustoms Yeah, if the swords are anything like the bokkens, heavy and unbalanced, I don't want em but there's just nothing as durable and cheap like it on the market.
@StudentOfWarCustoms
@StudentOfWarCustoms 3 жыл бұрын
@@phobos1826 the Cold Steel bokken aren't too heavy, they are closer to the weight of a real sword which as far as I'm concerned is a good thing. I have 2 Cold Steel o-bokken, one is the old style and one is the current style. The old style one weighs 1lbs 11.7oz, the current style one weighs 1lbs 14.5oz and all of my wooden bokken weigh between 1lbs 7.6oz-1lbs 10.5oz but they are also 3"-5" shorter so there will obviously be a weight difference. Personally I think anyone who thinks their too heavy needs to just use them, get used to them and build some strength. They are still considerably lighter than a real sword and not as forward heavy as a real sword. Cold Steel also offers the bokken which is thinner and shorter than the o-bokken.

@@StudentOfWarCustoms I've only used the o-bokken for a few months and after daily use every day, I would never use it in a spar because it's more like wielding an axe even though I've gotten much of the swings down, it's hard to control something that's unbalanced and heavy. I'm thinking about getting the normal bokken for a more realistic feel and spars while still using the o-bokken for strength training.

these swords are lighter cold steel ten shin, kinda like hard to draw the sword, is it hard to use?

These behave like any other bokken except the fact that they have some flex which helps in preventing breakage.
