Did that guy say his tires were at 16 psi? On 4WD 24-7 they drive in the Australian desert and on the beach and when they air down they start at around 15-18 psi but in soft sand go down to 10 or even 8 psi without beadlock rims. The 4WD 24-7 video called "Shauno’s tyre pressure off-road test" is very educational. Tire pressure is more important than the type of tire and a stiff sidewall requires a lower tire pressure like 14-10 psi. Your new truck may have been having issues if you were driving over 21 MPH. Four low is for driving under 18-21 MPH (30-35 KPH). There is a way to winch out of sand by burying a tire or a bag called a deadman earth anchor then attaching the winch to it. Using 4 traction boards in front of both rear and front tires allows the truck to pop up out of the sand. You also try minimal throttle and don't floor it because it damages the traction boards. The MAXTRAX XTREME Recovery Boards have alloy teeth that are replaceable if damaged. Maxtrax also makes a leash that is a long cord to make it easier to find your traction boards when they get buried. Ronny Dahl has several great videos about off-road driving and recovery gear. 4WD Supacentre "beach 4WDing secrets revealed" is a good video about sand driving basics. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnvHko2abryLabssi=gHA6PbJuTexoE3ch

Awesome video and good job helping the newbies out! Yeah airing down in sand is extremely important. Even a few PSI makes a big difference. I was doing a video shoot earlier this year with a very capable Jeep JK (on 37" tires). It kept getting stuck with 16 PSI... went down to 12 and he never got stuck again.

Before the video I would've easily said build the old one as it more logical. But not many people are in your position as is, where you get to make money back on this with the videos. You're already used to the older one as a daily, and with the points you made throughout the video I would probably build the new one, as it has a higher potential peak ability for off-roading, and I bet those videos will get more views than 3rd gen build videos

When your truck lost power on the hill, it's almost as if the engine went into "Limp" mode. That's when the computer senses an issue and reduces power to avoid damage. If that's the case, turning the truck off and on again should clear limp mode. If you did this between having the issue and switching to MTS, that may have been what solved the problem. I may be off base, but just throwing it out. I've had this happen on other vehicles. Sometimes you need to turn on and off a couple times to reset....
@ChloeKuo2 ай бұрын
Good insight. I think that's exactly what happened. MTS sand probably overwrote whatever was happening

I would build the Gen 3. A lot of the niches have been figured out. I have bought the 1st year of a new engine/trans setup, specifically 93' LT1 corvette and had ALL the issues that are known for it. And, you already have it set up nicely. The new one seems like a nice on road daily driver. Personally, I would not rely on a turbo 4 and all the new tech. I prefer NA. PS I have a 23' TRD Off Road. Love the vids!

I found that with my 3rd gen on 235/85/16 AT4W, sand dunes were best conquered with 4H; s1 or s2 (lots of RPMs), and 11-15 psi. Gotta let that v6 sing and fling the sand, it doesn’t have the power to hammer the pedal partway up the hill and make up for a slow start.

You should build / I would build the old one, because it's already half way there, and the aftermarket support for the 3rd gen is very well developed since it's been on the market for quite a few years already. The 4th gen aftermarket is only just getting started, and you will be significantly more limited in what you can do at first. As others have stated, the 4th gen is also a lot better on-road, so it makes sense not to mess with that. However, I think you're going to build up the new one instead, because it's a smarter business decision in terms of partnerships/sponsorship/marketing with/for Toyota (i.e. that's what they will want you to do, and if there's any money changing hands, there's not even a question), and it will make for fresher content than another 3rd gen build.
@nbaldo003Ай бұрын
I’d build the 3rd gen. mild Turbo kit, supporting mods and some good fuel you’re talking 500hp. swap out your pistons and you’re able to support almost 800hp w a big enough turbo. yea out of the box the 4 banger might have more immediate potential but the 2GR will support much more overall power reliably.

0:06 I would daily the 4th Gen because of the better MPG. I just drove on the freeway last night to go to a different section of O’ahu with my 2023 TRD OR ACLB and my trip MPG was 26.1 (Hawai’i freeway speeds are 45-55mph). I am changing jobs to have a 35 minute/26 mile commute from a 20minute/7 mile stop and go surface street commute so I am hoping that I will go from 11-17mpg to 26mpg. Listening to the start I think it might be better to build out the 4th Gen since your 3rd Gen is still mostly stock. It would be interesting to see how much MPG difference there is between the two.

Good karma and practice helping out that stranded truck, nice job! I think the 4th Gen won't need a ton of mods to become a killer daily driver and still handle a lot off-road. Ours fit 35" tires pretty well. The 3rd Gen could be built up some more and its not the end of the world if you get a scratch. There are a ton of aftermarket parts available for the 3rd Gen also.
@gpaje2 ай бұрын
For the channel, you should build the newest truck. For the real life, the older one makes sense, simpler, easy to fix in the field, a lot more proven aftermarket support at this point. Whereas the newer truck is a better daily driver.

Chloe, the loss of power you experienced might be related to transmission issues Toyota is having on the new Tacos. Might want the dealer to run codes. Loss of power is one of the early warning signs.☹️

She was in 4-low but should have been in 4-high. Her tire pressures were also too high, and that's why the Tacoma couldn't climb the hill. The boys were reckless and dumb but she's been "off-roading" long enough that she should know the basics. Tire pressure is more important than the type of tire when driving on sand. If you get the tire pressures right even street/highway tires will work well on sand. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6mykJ2NYs6dZpIsi=tqU2LJ-g-8R_nA6I
