Today we will take a look at an original 1986 Jem and the Holograms doll by Hasbro. We will also look at the brand new 2025 Jem doll by The Loyalty Subjects. Then we will give them both a hair spa makeover! I absolutely love this nostalgic 80s vibe!

I can't say I'm not shocked they remade them cuz of nostalgia. I was excited when the live action movie came out years ago (still listen to the soundtrack) Jem was a very classic cartoon from my generation the music was epic too. These are on my wishlist for grails from my childhood. I had one long time ago but sadly got overshadowed by barbie in my collection and got lost to either donation or yard sale cuz I didn't play with her. She's very classic 80s style. Great to see one and your review.

Great review, Grant! This new Jem is so truly outrageous!!! You really get your moneys worth for only $24.95. Hasbro really put a lot of thought into the packaging and even an extra outfit compared to Mattel's lazy and lackluster My Scene re-boot which cost almost double. 😒😔

try using vinegar to clean the battery compartment, battery corrosion needs something more acidic to break down. then clean the residue with alcohol

@@dolls2remember You have great parents.....also use nail polish remover to get red stains off doll. I will pass on the new Jem....the older one looks better. Years ago the quality of dolls was better than todays standards. Her head is too small on new doll....they should have made the hair blonde with long pink hair on top....which could be rolled up and hidden under hat when she is Jerrica. When she becomes Jem pink hair comes down to cover blonde hair. The eye makeup under eyes should have been removable pink stickers that can be peeled off when she becomes Jerrica. This way you have two dolls in one without having to make an extra head. People usually have me customize dolls for them.....especially super hero characters who have a secret identity.

I was browsing to hub network in 8th grade and stopped on an episode. I remember being flabbergasted that a white girl was named Jerrica(😅) and was really vibing with the music. I remember recording episodes on the cable box so I can watch them later when I got home. I'm glad we have a more affordable alternative and I really want to collect all the holograms misfits and stingers. My only critique is that they release a proper Jerrica doll with blonde hair but other than that this looks perfect. I hope they also give Shana a proper dark skin tone because I got into Jem a few months before that live action movie atrocity when they casted a biracial lightskin to play a Dark-skinned Black Shana

Fun fact, the artwork in the new Jam box is the exact same from the orginal packaging in 1986. The male doll was Rio and had purple hair and there was a rival band called the Misfits. My sister had them all.

Thanks Grant for the review! 🫶 I love love love Jem! I still can to this day sing the theme song for Jem. Both dolls are beautiful in different ways for me. I got Jem and Rio when I was a kid and some fashion packs( one of Jems earrings can still light up)I couldn't watch the series on TV as a child, but I had the first episodes on VHS that I still know the lines to. For me, Jem is an icon and I have managed to buy some of the dolls as an adult but they are hard to get hold of here in Sweden. I'm thinking of ordering a new Jem on ebay, it will cost a lot but I really want her so much. The box has the same artwork from when I was little and I love that 😍 You and your mom are the sweetest, love that she’s buying you dolls 💖

The lead doll would be American Beauty Jem and Hasbro dealers were sent a plastic and cloth llama as a promotion for the meeting with a Rajah in one of the last cartoons. My friend had a Jem doll when we were little!! To me, they were like Barbie but a little strange, but in the way which required exploration for me 😂❤ and NJ’s not so far 😊 hop on the PATH to Bergen line NJ Transit and you can get off at one of two stops in my city! We have 2 Walmarts but I haven’t seen any cool Jem repros in the Walmart closest to me 🙄😒 so cool to see them side by side! Gotta say I prefer the OG Jem 😎🩷🩷

Such a fun comparison. I just opened mine too. I LOVE her, except for the staining. Glad acetone removes that without melting the plastic. I love the proportions of the new Jem. I feel like they look very people-y! I also wish her Jerrica look was less Jem. HAHA. What about the Tuesday taylor gimmick with the twisting scalp. That would be fun. Or I think the original one works pretty well with the blonde under layer, but then the hat would have to work... I couldn't get the hat on either. Maybe a straight pin through a hair plug would work... I'm pretty sure new Jem as Poly hair and it makes sense that old Jem would have Nylon cause Hasbro was using Nylon in the 80s.

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Hi Grant! The Jem and the Holograms cartoon was also broadcast in Italy with great success. I didn't really like the Jem dolls though. In the cartoon Jem was beautiful and to me she looked like a Barbie but the Hasbro dolls were quite ugly. This new version of Jem is very cute, even though Jerrica's dress doesn't make much sense if her hair and makeup are Jem's. 😅 I've already taken the Barbie face mold survey and I can't wait to see the video where you will reveal the Top Ten! 😘 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

If new Jem has nylon hair....l really want to get her now! I would be customizing her and dyeing her hair and taking off her face paint. I LOVE the body! I love body diversity in my collection and would really want her JUST for that! It is a beautiful doll! How does her head actually compare to Barbie though? Is it like Integrity doll size head? Hi dear , i highly recommend u could use acne cream with benzoyl proxided 10% to remove stain , after putting acne cream u could put under sunlight it will come off but depend on the stain surface ,and than u can repeat the process until it gone, i dont recommend using acetone & rubbing alcohol it will make one part of the doll body look matte finish , i believe during the production they must be putting some glossy after finish even the doll head as well , cuz i used to use 100% acetone on the doll body and it melt the glossy paint on the doll body... it become so matte finish

I was abt 9 i think when Jem came out in the 80s. I wanted to love the doll but the face seemed strange to me. I loved watching the cartoon. But i love the Barbie doll release better because i felt more comfortable with the Barbie face. Its too bad Jems face lost me because she was a really cool doll.❤

I like it. Looks more realistic. I think the thicker neck is what causes it to look strange. I think we are too used to dolls having thinner neck, that a realistic one looks weird. Maybe they tried to make it look both like the cartoon and the live action.
