To avoid wasting scrap papers you can use pretty affordable Caran d’Ache plastic palette created just for that, or even plastic cutting board that is not completely smooth

That’s a great idea. I’ve been using pieces of good paper that I cut for color testing. Also for the past couple of years I’ve been thinking about the CD plastic palette. You’ve given me a good reason to buy the CD palette now! 😁

Like you mentioned, my favorite part of using watercolor pencils is the sense of control plus creating details with finer lines. I love the tree bark texture you can create, too.

You forgot one very important point. You can combine them in one painting, using your wcp to give structure and details to your watercolor, and you can use wcp dry or wet for that. A good example for this is James Gurney painting a turtoise on a museum. Here it is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppCwkJ-QZsqpaq8

Your Awesome ❤! I’m an elderly woman that went to the dollar store and I’m experimenting . I painted a beautiful beach scene on wood and my sister loved it & has it hanging on her wall. Ty for teaching me more ways to paint!❤

A very nice comparison. I like them both but prefer the traditional watercolors a bit more. They seem more dreamy and ethereal.

Yes they're different for sure

Thanks so much! This was great and I love that you did a landscape. As a FYI, Caran d’ache makes a wonderful little palette for mixing watercolor pencils.

Beautiful painting and great video as always. I love your tips. Because of you, I am completely addicted to watercolor pencils. I made a stock with several brands and I never get tired of painting with them. kkkkkkk.. Thanks

@@paintingandchocolateyou can also buy an inexpensive plastic cutting board. The flexible ones can be cut to any size. They have a slight tooth and you won’t waste color

Try using the Caran D’Ache palette instead of paper. It’s designed for watercolour pencils on one side and acrylics on the other. It’s a game changer. Saves paper and your pencils

I like both, because they are very interesting on his own ... but I find to use watercolor directly with a useful brush a little bit better. I exercizing to use my different brushes in different ways also for details and effects. watercolor pencils are very precise but they can also change the surface of the paper a little bit if you use them wet or dry - more steps and so on, that is sometimes useful and sometimes not if you work layer by layer.
