I went to a class recently on paper piecing and had a wonderful time. I was exhausted because not only was paper piecing and quilting new to me but I am 75 and recovering from a stroke. It took me so long to do one block and I still have not torn away the paper. Each block consists of 8 sections. I have 16 more blocks to complete. The one block took me almost 5 hours. The next day I tried your method. WOW! I completed the block in a lot less time. I was able to check and see if the material covered each section a lot easier and no paper to tear away. They look identical. I also did a birdhouse pattern I had for practice. I downloaded this pattern and am eager to try it. You brought a grown man to tears and I thank you. This is also the first comment I have ever written.

My wife does not sew thru the paper. She transfers pattern to freezer paper using window or light box. Cuts out pattern pieces-numbered, use tracing wheel to score fold line. folds that back after afixing material , places add-a-quarter or add-a-eight ruler, trims material and procedes-no need to tear paper and the freezer paper can be used several times, using hot dry iron to hold material in place.

You could also print this out on the non waxy side of freezer paper and then use your iron to hold everything together on the waxy side. Everything is the same except you use your iron in place of glue and your end product might be a little crisper since you’d be ironing. I love using the freezer paper and you get just as many uses from the freezer paper as regular paper

Sorry for all the nagging comments 🙈 I just wanted to say that this is my first time watching your videos and I as a beginner love how you go into detail every step of the way and the tips you (especially about starting in the middle to get everything lined up nicely, I’ve never seen that before) give are much appreciated. Your videos cover the seasoned quilters and also help the beginner sewers as well. I think a lot of people forget that usually beginner sewers coming to KZbin for help. So thank you so much for taking the time and explaining everything so well, it’s incredibly appreciated ❤️🙏

I’m using a cheap children’s art paper pad on a very similar 8 pointed star PP pattern and you’re right. I hate tearing out the paper, but the paper I’m using tears right off and doesn’t add too much bulk thru all the seams. next time, I’ll try it this way.

Thank you for showing us this "floating star", my name for this one. Two questions. 1. How do you keep your tips from being sucked down into feed dogs and ruining the points without a little leader scrap? 2. Why do you open the seams in final ironing instead of seams all to one side? Swore I would never, ever, do another paper pieced star but will have to try this one. Great tutorial.
@TheSewingChannel

The way I keep my "tips" from getting sucked in....Line it up with needle right above where it will go into fabric-Drop your needle or hand wheel your needle down first prior to starting to sew.(you'll hear me in the vid say "drop your needle"). I open my seams at the end because I feel it lays more flat.☑️ Thank you for the kind feedback too💛

Question: if you’re doing a paper piece project that has a “direction” to it - ie: something facing right or left - traditional FPP has you lay fabrics on the reverse or back side of paper and in your tutes, you’re placing on the fabrics on the right (printed numbers/letters) side. Wouldn’t that “reverse” the direction ? I can see on simple blocks or uniform blocks your method works, but if you have a pattern that puts let’s say a flower on the right of a house (when pieces joined) or a left eye winking on a face, wouldn’t your method give you the finished result in reverse?

Just wondering if you could use a stitch in the ditch foot which has a metal guide. If you turned your fabric so it was to the right of the needle instead of to the left, I wonder if that ‘d work because you could butt the metal piece right up to the paper fold. Wouldn’t work with larger pieces however.

I’ve been working on a New York Beauty using the traditional FPP technique. Your new method looks fantastic-I’ll try it on my next project!! You’re a great teacher. Thanks much. A new subscriber here.

Hey there Tracy girl haven’t seen you on the online sales and now they’re doing this special sale every single day, one lady commented how am I supposed to get anything done if you’re on every day lol I am still waiting for you to do that remake of the cross body one seam purse where you were going to use magnets as your closures
@TheSewingChannel

Hey how's it going? I've been busy creating my videos LOL😆 If I watched those sales everyday I for sure would not get much done LOL! The closures for the cross body is on the list ✅

@@TheSewingChannel OK girl I’m waiting my purse is falling apart lol. With my insomnia I am never awake early enough to get in on those daily videos which is a good thing because I really should not be spending any more money. I have my eyes on the Juki either 2010 or the one that has the micro lift feature that’s a lot of money to spend but I’m getting tired of my singer quantum it just takes me so long to get anything done but it is still a great machine

I am practicing your suggestion to drop my needle so my machine won't eat that little corner. Well, I am experiencing too many eaten corners even when I drop the needle. So frustrating. Maybe my machine is whacky.

Try coming away from corner first,drop needle then backstitch and slowly move to stitch. What presser foot do you use mostly?

Again this is great. Paper piecing complex angles can be hard to get right. As on #7 the paper is folded and the angle is obvious. Not Getting the fabric piece sew on wrong is solved.😊
