I'm enjoying the different series you have on this channel. The flying stuff brings back memories. I partly grew up in Oakley, a couple of miles from Basingstoke, but worked at the AA in Basingstoke, based at The Durie Centre. It has been a long time since I've lived in the UK, but the tower block you mention might be the old Fanum House which belonged to the AA for many years. Back when I worked at the AA the security used to let me go to the observation deck at the top of that tower, where I'd use my CB radio for half an hour. The signal could reach for miles! I did take my car and motorcycle tests in Basingstoke. The town is nicknamed doughnut city for all of its roundabouts.
@TheMissendenFlyer2 жыл бұрын
Excellent! I too was a CB Radio fan back in 1981 (remember "CB/27/81"?) - I bet the signal banged out from there for miles - great in skip conditions....
@OldDogZeroTricks2 жыл бұрын
@@TheMissendenFlyer I wasn't aware of CB/27/81 at the time. I just had a 40-channel (+ Mids) rig at home with an amplifier and subtle aerial on my roof, and a 40-channel handheld for walking around. Met people from various walks of life. It was within a couple of years of selling my GPX 750 (back to bikes) and enjoying a second-hand Renault 5 GT Turbo. I hope you get to test ride the 2023 Niken GT when that launches. I'm curious what reviewers like yourself think of the changes. I enjoyed your review of the current Niken. Cheers.

Good vid - thanks. I’ve driven the 303 more times than I can count. Most of the time the traffic is caused by muppets who won’t merge in turn when the road narrows to single lane. Outside the high season it’s a nice drive. Stone Henge heading west is a lot better since they closed the road that used to go across the plain and cause huge tailbacks while people waited to turn right!

Suspension is a "black art" I recently stiffened the compression & rebound damping on my T7 to settings recommended by an Enduro school that runs a fleet of them. Strangely enough that made the ride noticeably smoother on the road, which may be counter intuitive, but I guess it's all about allowing the tyres to follow the contours of the tarmac.

I was over myself on the bike a few weeks back visiting family and turned off the m4 and cut across and picked up the A303 .... Great to see a Concorde up close, 102?, even if it is still full of all of the flight recording computers!! Plenty of other interesting flying machines - military mostly, too and a mimic of a Naval Flight deck on board an aircraft carrier, quite clever. Really glad we added it to our southern tour, used the A303... stayed at Exeter for the night. Then past Truro and out to the coast at St Agnes. Traveled the 303 many times over the years. Heading eastbound, just a few miles before Stonehenge, there is an iron age hill fort called Yarnbury or Varnbury depending on which map you have. You get to it via an unmarked lay-by along the 303, on the crest of a ridge. Park up, hop over the gates, and you're there. Been several times, always deserted, good place to stop for a break, stretch yer legs and have an impromptu picnic. Cheers, Chris, in Cornwall.

Another interesting trip for us viewers, albeit not as planned by you and Carol,….that tall building in Basingstoke is AA head office, ….Basingstoke born & bred for my sins!

Just thought I’d mention this and had to look back at your last installment of Belgian excursion. What ever you did to the suspension on the new wing, I noticed the camera being a lot more stable. Your old Gold Wing was more bouncy on roads that were impeccable in Belgium, so had to be the suspension setting.

@@TheMissendenFlyer If I were as close as you are with that electric blue intercontinental ballistic missile Gold wing; I’d be riding around Western France checking The Maritimes of France. Western France is a motorcycle Mecca, Food is amazing, they don’t speak English why would they?

That big tower block in basingstoke...The AA head quarters, if you get a chance to get to it, you will be able to the see the first AA motorcycle on display in the window (just behind the phone box) 👍🏻

Do they make hi vis beige vests? Loved it when you were pointing out landmarks that weren’t really landmarks. I’ve used the same trick with mesh jackets.

Did I do that?

There's a hotel at Church street in Amesbury, only a few stonethrows from Stonehenge, where the Beatles lived whilst recording the film "Help". Me and my son stayed there some years ago. We went to see the Battle of Hastings (in week 42), Dover castle, Stonehenge, Salisbury Chatedral and Bath. And all the bits between! A military museum not far from there....nice place!

Hi Use found this from the bike vids. Can I ask why, if there was an issue that concerned you flying on to Cornwall why did you decide to fly an hour back? Surely the problem was still there? Anyway all was well but just asking…..
@TheMissendenFlyerАй бұрын
The return airfield was a big field I could have landed anywhere in and huge (issue was only on landing)…at the destination airfield that wasn’t the case. But I do take your point!

Andy your making me home sick ! Stonehenge area is home to me! I know that road well and I remember crashing my GS 1,000 Suzuki on the A303 when I came down the slip road from Andover to find oil or chemical on the road the police said all over the outside lane dodgy time but really miss it as we only get down once a year now from the dreaded north where I now live reluctantly so much better down that end .The wing is looking amazing love that electric blue colour she looks mighty fine .👌👍
