The combat literally carries this game, be careful with it. It keeps some of us hooked, it's not chopping banana trees 8 hours a day to pay for chromatic seals or running the same OPR for years.

@@samenoise532 That's why I love the gathering, too! I have mining / leathermaking runs I do to stay topped off on prismatic materials to make those for basically free money. Alternatively, you can process the raw materials to matrix's for a profit (currently I can buy all the mats / make the matrix / fill buy orders on the market at around $1,500 profit per matrix, so I'd just need to make 4 - this takes me like 2 minutes) But remember, they are a high-tier craft item. They SHOULD take time to acquire...

What’s your current thoughts on the state of player vs door? The majority of oprs, you aren’t fighting players but doors that can’t break even with brutes assisting. And you guys are bringing new food to opr to gather more resources which will make breaking doors even more difficult and the game mode even less fun.

I can confirm, as an almost full-time builder in OPR, a Brute + A few enemies WILL destroy a door (unless 2 builders are building at the same time) no matter the builder's resources. Keep in mind, those resources get burned pretty fast. I've had 500+ stone AND wood one time and went through just about all of it holding off attackers at SOL while my team got Baron.

Ye same I usually pimp mid and try to get around 500 wood and that only save the door for maybe a min if no brute and if no one is backdooring and Im solo repair..not that bad at all getting 500 wood takes time too@@ShAd0w0100

You should make camps destructible during races which in turn would make the influence races alot more strategic. That would make it possible to actually "win" a tower instead of a constant respawning in the backlines from the people that have already been slain. Another option would be that all camps in a influence race zone that is active gets removed and you can only place "faction camps" (I'm guessing this could be easier code wise for the devs since it's a new form of camp that could have other restrictions) which only pvp enabled players can use. I feel like this could make influence races alot more fun. You have to place your camps strategic and have a defending force to make sure they aren't destroyed and the camps themselves could be more costly to make so you can't just smack them up willy nilly. Just my 2 cents.

For the flamethrower you could allow them to take more damage while in flamethrower mode. Attack at the cost of increased dps taken. It’s a risk/reward

Everquest 2 healers have that kind of healing. Druids heal, Shamans have wards, and Clerics have reactives(get healed when hit). Great system actually

Best NW video in a long time, with well-explained clarity on topics. Left me with a bunch of questions, but also answered a lot of concerns I have regarding the combat. For the community question: I like the proactive approach to the Lifestaff, rather than solely reactive as it is currently, aside from AoE HoT. That said, is there any consideration in giving the Lifestaff the ability to defend itself with the Protector skill tree? It's not the most engaging playstyle to have to just run all the time if you face an aggressor, perhaps the ability to slow or CC attackers in the protector tree would add a dynamic element to the Lifestaff and give it a little bit of fight back potential.

Hi team. I love the dynamism of company in NW. That being said, I’d love for persistent buffs between weapon swaps. I’d love for the ability for example to shield rush fortify then switch to Great axe and whirlwind then go back to sword and shield. You could add a penalty for buffs out of weapon specialization to have 50% efficacy or something. I believe that persistent buffs would add another layer of dynamism to an already dynamic combat system.

I'm definitely not the only one that New World's combat system is what has us hooked, so be careful when touching things, don't mess up. Think carefully about the idea of moving while carrying a heavy attack, think about weapons like the Serenity, if they are already broken imagine then. Still, thank you very much for the effort you are putting into it, welcome to balance of power Josh and RJ. Very excited to see the changes that will occur in the future and very looking forward to the improvement of character navigation and definition of equip loads!

Cant wait for the movement update, the dive into stand up animations takes super long and dodge rolling out of prone puts you in crouch, so it takes more inputs to get to running state. Also next is swimming Copium

Is there any new healing focused weapon that you guys are working on? Life staff being the only viable option to heal in expedition is not ideal. More options to fit the healer role would be better for the game.

One possibly solution for heavy attacks is you are allowed to charged heavy attacks and dodge as well that way you still have mobility while charging heavies and the only penalty is stamina instead of being in place. So when the changing animation starts if you dodge there will be a second where the weapon can glow showing the charge is ready to be released.

Like the equip load vision, but in that light, I don’t understand the change to heavy dodge cost, which is a nerf to survivability - which heavy is supposed to be all about. Why did you not just lower the dmg people do in heavy, nerfing the offensive output?

The changes suggested for the future of combat sound great, especially melee homing uniformity or getting closer to it. Curious regarding dual stat ranged weapon burst ceilings? What is the vision for these and should 2-3 tapping players with (bow/musket) be easy to achieve as it is now? What is the idea behind Bow retaining such long distance max range on abilities and basic attacks with no counters? Will this weapons' range be reigned in?

I am a big fan of New World’s combat system. It is unique, fun, and has a skill curve. Kudos to the team probably New World’s most important aspect. My question: I like how you guys described PvP combat as a “violent dance” because that is what I look for in gameplay. With that said, I feel like the biggest thing the gameplay doesn’t do is engage me to another player to make it feel like a dance. With current plans to do backend recoding of combat and some kind of target lock. will there be a more squaring off with a target to engage with another player in a more dance?

Community Question: 7:30 - From my experience, I know many of my friends WOULD GO with a medium build (they actually don't like that they are missing out on some armor) - but they just don't want to lose out on the roll the light build gives. Perhaps there's a way to allow both Medium/Light builds to roll?

I have 9 characters currently at level 65 all of then are different, a mage, a soldier, a pirate, a renegeda, a mechanic, etc and would love to have "professions" that each character could have a different traits and atrtibutes according to this profession, and maybe even some special abilities, like GW2 has, that would bring huge depth and replayability for the game and a much better user experience, if you could consider this would be awesome

My question: Will you normalize grit passives on 2H weapons vs grit passive from 300 con? The passive abilities that give grit do not take effect until well into the heavy attack, vs with 300 con you gain grit sooner in the animation. I recommend normalizing these towards the start of the animation when you look into buffing heavy attacks. Please DO NOT shift the 300 con grit passive to take effect later in the animation (i.e. how it works now on the ability tree passives). That would severely negatively affect the use of heavy attacks in PvP, which would be the opposite of what y’all want. Overall this could make more bruiser builds viable since they wouldn’t necessarily need 300 con to clump fight. Atm you definitely do. Thanks for everything!

As far as PVE goes, I think Light can only be balanced against Medium with encounter design. Generally the tank will be soaking everything so all the DPS can feel free to be Light all day with no consequences. If more encounters have some amount of unavoidable damage, or something that can't just be easily dodged it would give Medium some life. As it is there's no real reason not to be a glass cannon.

tbh I would almost argue that there is too much unavoidable damage in this game you just might not see it unless you run m3s. There is a lot of lazy encounter design or even lazy design with mutations in general. I mean take the mutated laz we just had last week with fire for example. You have Elites that can drop a big fire circle aoe on the ground and then the fire aoes that each players drops on their position (the one's players drop are still going to drop throughout boss fights), it's just way too much unavoidable damage and doesn't create any kind of engaging gameplay. There is plenty of boss attacks that swipe behind them as well (take depths for example both the priest and thorpe do this among many more bosses) which technically yes are avoidable to some degree but you can't even play fluidly...it doesn't create a fun engaging fluid experience. It goes back to lazy design there is no way to consistently play or feel rewarded for playing mechanics... getting animation locked at the wrong times is a lot of what dictates whether you live or not and since there isn't always visible tell of when that will happen until it's too late it just feels bad(I've literally seen simon slam 4 times in a row randomly on SSM3). I would love to see a rework to the pve mechanics in this game to create a more engaging experience for players and not just some niche and nuanced design. I don't believe designing more telegraphed or mechanical fights that you can read will make it "easier" I think it will allow players to read the fight and react accordingly. They make the mechanics as hard as they want as long as they have more visibility for players to react to. For examples: a simple idea for thrope, instead of him having no telegraphed thrust that hits dps behind just simply telegraph it but not only that make a few attacks that are completely new and unique to him where he turns around and does like a 3 hit combo cone attack at the dps that you can read and dodge before he turns back to the tank. They have little hints of things like this but it's often times just randomized attacks, and again there are a lot of nuanced things to boss fights in this game. Again I am not saying make this game faceroll or even quote on quote easier but make it more digestible and readable. Make more engaging mechanics, redesign boss fights, add unique hard modes that add more mechanics and difficulty to the boss fights overall...there is so much they can do with the pve in this game to keep it having a more fresh experience and fun one at that. Also to your point with medium, it does often get used on melee dps in certain encounters because again a lot of bosses tend to hit behind them so you can tank the dmg easier and not go down just depends.

Power Shot needs a general buff or the cool down needs to be reduced further. It doesn't stand out from Powder Shot. I prefer it but it isn't balanced against the other skills in the tree. IMHO

Homing for great axe has gotten horrible! If someone is running away from you, you cannot hit them. You get rooted as you hit the attack button and by the time you swing they are out of the pull range. I think it’s a latency problem.. which is why the pull needs to be big enough to account for the characters not being where you think

The main problem of PVP right now is Healing. I know probably will trigger all staff users, but we need something really significant agaist healing, I'm playing a lot of OPR and Arenas, and there are no counters to this problem, is frustrating, is not fun and destroy the balance. It's not fair to lose if I dealing around 200.000 dmg or more, because they are playing with Spear(another unbalanced weapons right now), but lets not dive from the main, but first of all because they have heal in team. I'm Ice/BB user, I tried Pestilience, which you somehow for no reason nerfed it, i tried Putrefying Scream perk on my void weapon, funny I tried even both and didn't win . Void another problem is too bugy, that blade is awfull, 2/10 hits are successful, it's like a nerf or hitbox on that thing. I remember times when noone can kill me because of void blade, good old times. We need something that stops healing for seconds, or more weapons like pestillience, Void should be that weapon because looks more like an utility not dmg one. Putrefying Scream reduce all the upcoming heal to that target for idk 2 to 5 seconds. Just a time frame to punish a player for making a mistake. Now is like: Going wunga bunga with no brain weapons like fire/sns/spear and who cares if I made a mistake by rushing like a monkey in enemy, my healer will keep me alive and you can't do nothing because if you try to focus him guess what he escapes and that CDR on staff are probably nothing. This is a core problem, I feel like in this game the healing is broken like never in any other game. Is crucial to ask for a balance, I'm not talking about nerf to the ground like you did with void but I don't know if you play your own game and see the problem. OPR also needs a matchmaking system like dungeons : 3 DPS/1 TANK/1 HEAL and probably is time to add the lock-in for build when you jump to PVP mods. If you are dps, you stay dps until the game is over. Healers don't attack me, I guess you can argue that heal is broken. I know noone will do something regarding this issue but, is better to write than keep for you. Cheers

Fundamentally is not a fix to encourage the problem, maybe I don't want to play with heal, but I want to kill someone with healer because is perfectly normal to punish ppl mistakes. I played a lot of games, MMO's/LoL and I can't remember in any case healing being that broken like this game. Because kills the skill you have. Idk if you experimented probably cuz you are a healer, but in 3v3 if a comp with 2 melee/or 1 melee and 1 fire + healer is just free win. Even if my dmg is bigger that enemy combined or I'm trying to concentrate killing the healer which has no CDR or escapes, is just frustrating and annoying, killing the fun. Every brain dead can play around heal and just win because mitigates all the dmg you dealt and is just not right.

Please fix the beginning and ending of casting duration/animation lock on the fire staff on light and heavy attacks; it's way too clunky. No other weapon causes you to feel stam'd with a light or heavy attack. If flame thrower is never going to have a cool down, then neither should windchill... Extend ice spike range. Give ice an offensive change to be able to attack and not just a permanent off-hand slot for survivability and support. Both of those things shouldn't make up the entire weapon trees. Hell, flail has way more attack damage.. Allow windchill to blast the user back. Like burnout, you can engage or escape. If you want to allow for build flexibility, you can play whatever you love. Then add a strength conversation gem and a dex conversation gem like an int gem. And can we please show mages some love and add some more mage weapons? It's a 7 to 1 ratio.

Potential design for a new shield-pairing melee weapon: Lance that scales off of STR/DEX and primarily does Thrust DMG Skill trees: Debuff/Bleed tree and Crowd Control tree I notice you could use the same animation/moves that PVE enemies with shields where they leap into the air and slam with a triangular AOE that causes stun or knockdown. Another cool weapon skill would be a "shield barrage" attack that incorporates shield spinning animations to stagger, stun, or debuff. This weapon class would focus on crowd control and bleed stacks (or whatever works idk) but I feel the main playstyle would be to do poke damage that inflict bleed or debuffs while having CC abilities to defend themselves with. The long range would act like a spear and could help with melee players reaching their targets. On top of all that, the skins for it would look GREAT. These are just ideas and are open to any adjustments in the off chance that this actually gets made lol

Far too close to Spear. More likely dual daggers next, then options like a Con based weapon utilizing very close combat like knuckles and utilizing grappling moves. Another option is a Focus based weapon since that stat needs a few more to stay on par with Str, Int and Dex.

Nerf the DPS. And no, healing isn't overpowered. Otherwise you degrade role based gameplay to a linear, bland monotony of DPS trash.

When can we expect a gamemode thats closer to rated battlegrounds as currently only competitive gamemode is wars. Also pls more fort variation city to city, not jsut copy and paste. Also custom wars and opr map thats more like king of the hill instead of this current opr map, which is just a marathon

1)why can’t skill animations be canceled using dodge or block? Imagine how much more varied the gameplay would be if you could fake skills like in any other competitive game 2) There is also a big difference in the duration of animations for: -the longest (during which half of your face is blown off and this is unusable in pvp) like: Defender's Resolve, Shockwave, Roaring Rupture etc -the fastest: Sweep, all rapira skills etc This is of course realistic, but from a balance point of view, you can reduce the difference (normalize) between the longest and the fastest. Of course, weakly, and not as you usually do *facepalm*

Please, please, please remove bonus damge/healing from equip load weight. MAYBE that system can work in PvP balancing, but in PvE the meta will ALWAYS be DPS/healers in light armor. I have played a heavy armor, two-handed weapon wielding warrior in every RPG game and I have never seen a meta that made you wear a robe and I don't plan to start now. Moving past combat, light armor is clearly the best armor for running around the open world, gathering, etc. (simply because you move faster). Can we get some balanced compensation for the other armor weights with convenience features to help in those areas?

Could you stop removing mechanics from the game even if they are bugs? arrow rain mechanics, 360° wrecking ball, having to press X after dodge. The pve in thid game is dead because it is easy, and there is no reward because all you have to do is pass your set on the inductor and in 1 month of playing you will be bis. Why would I do a raid, if I can easily get a set with the perks I want in less than 1 month?

Void blade mana cost should be 0 and it should have no cooldown. Mana regen is too slow.

The combat in this game looks great, but the fact that NW's combat heavily revolve around slowing the opponent down is just ridiculous. Too many weapons have ridiculous ways to slow and pull people, make them feel stuck. Im not talking about roots, stuns or staggers... im talking about slowing them down. The worst however has to be that hitting an opponent with anything with take away their momentum. It makes you feel clunky, stuck. It's such a bad experience. More than 70% of combat is slowing the opponent and bursting them down.

"Is PVP content such as new opr maps or game modes being considered?" Cross world trading would be AMAZING. We love the combat of the game of course their may be some fixes needed but your fanbase loves it and we love this game. ALL we ask for is a new OPR map or some kind of New pvp game mode. the pve content has truly been on point and we have so much content on it. A practice war game mode would also be really fun to and allow companies to get better in different ways. Reaching here but new gen console play would be cool to add more players to the game and more content. as u said in this video it doesnt take millions of buttons for this game. We love you we appreciate you and WE NEED MORE PVP CONTENT. so with that being said
