Two things that look held over from the X-55 that I wish you would have corrected here: Palm/wrist rest plate on the Flightstick: Does not look (or is mentioned anywhere) that this is height adjustable, which can lead to fatigue in reaching all of the flightstick buttons optimally. You still have the Castle HAT below the Cone HAT on the top right of the flightstick, a more optimal solution would be to swap the position of those two controls (since it can be a case where one accidentally triggers the top of the Castle HAT when trying to activate the Cone HAT

Did you address the issues that the X55 had in this new setup? Basically all you have done is take the X55, change out two positions for the additional 4DoF and call it something new. Looks to me like it is still going to be plagued with the same major issues under a new name. The way I see it the worst thing to happen to Saitek was being bought out by Mad Catz. The brand has done nothing but go downhill ever since.

Saitek makes some nice products, but hasn't exactly been known for having good quality control. Now under Mad Catz, that brings the quality of their products into further question. The X56 looks like that HOTAS we've all been waiting for, but ask any gamer about it and they'll voice the same concerns about the quality of the product. We need some kind of promise that these problems have been resolved before many of us pre-order.

+J. S. Wahl Have you owned a Saitek stick mate, or are you going off the popular (very poor) perception of MadCatz quality control? I have a selection of Saitek and Thrustmaster sticks. The X-55 is head and shoulders better in every way than anything else I own. The new four ways look useful; I'd love to retrofit one to my throttle. It looks like they've taken a really good product and added extra functionality, following the current market trend away from combat flight sims and toward space sims. It's a good decision that makes a lot more sense to me than building a fake A-10 HOTAS out of unnecessarily heavy components, charging a premium and pretending that the very specific button layout will be just fine for everything. I've read many complaints about the Thrustmaster Warthog; the usual response is 'well, that's unlucky, they're usually very good, you know?'. I've read exactly the same complaints about Saitek kit and the response inevitably runs 'what did you expect, Saitek quality control is rubbish'. I've never had any issues with either manufacturer, they both produce tough, high quality game controllers at a reasonable price. It stands to reason that there will be similar issues with both lines- they use exactly the same technology- but it seems to me that one manufacturer has a terrible reputation when their product fails, while the other is getting a free pass. Funnily enough the more expensive product is the one getting away with occasional failures; the more reasonably priced one attracts scorn and derision. I think this is basic human nature- people equate expense with quality. In game terms that's probably untrue- CH products are demonstrably more durable than Thrustmaster or Saitek, using slightly different internals and being built to industrial, rather than leisure market standards. They're dull as dishwater and have far fewer of the little touches that make Thrustmaster or Saitek products such a joy to own, but they're pretty cheap and they last forever. It's a little like seeing a car broken down by the side of the road- if it's an expensive foreign model you tend to think how unfortunate the driver was, if it's a cheap domestic one you roll your eyes and make a comment about crap British/American/insert your own nation here build quality.

As far as the control schemes go this is definitely an "upgrade" but saitek you need to come up with a new centering mechanism. The current centering mechanism is made to fail. It eventually wears away the plastic. You cannot lubricate this type of mechanism because it wipes the lubricant away. You guys need to make the centering like how everyone else does it. Reliable with the use of ball in cup and springs. Easy lubrication that retains the smoothness for a long long time.

TM needs to make an equivalent product, the problem is Madcatz has little if any competition, even the Warthog is in a class by itself since it lacks some features of the X55/X56 etc. As soon as someone puts something out there that goes head to head and $ for $ with them. You watch how fast MadCatz fixes it's quality control when people stop buying their shit. My biggest dilema right now is I need a new HOTAS, I have the TM HOTASX right now, and it's been awesome for $40. But it doesn't have enough buttons for me, to play Star Citizen efficiently. Now there is a Star Citizen HOTAS being made ALSO by MadCatz, which a lot of the SC backers are very worried about because of their history of piss poor or non existent quality.

For "Elite: Dangerous" full range throttle. It's 0 throttle at the center and from that point you have reverse at the bottom and forward throttle in the upper half.

As you can see, the problem isn't with a lack of functionality. That seems quite nice. It's something called QUALITY CONTROL that is keeping myself and others from wanting to try it out. I'm also worried about software issues that popped up on previous models. What makes it much worse is the CUSTOMER SERVICE problems many have had before as well. It's simple...functionality & looks = sold. QA, software and CS = unsold. Especially at $250.00 USD. Those problems have ruined many great concepts that both Saitek and Mad Catz have presented to us in the past.

Well, thruster on the stick while manoevering? and how do you press the trigger while drifting? you have 2 right thumbs? IMHO the X52 is a better stick for Elite dangerous (not the best thogh). Better resting for hands on it, and easier commands access. And drifting with left finger while managing thrust, direction and firepower.

What I didn't like about the X55 was the extremely stiff twist rudder and the thumb button placement on the stick, which made combat very uncomfortable as I couldn't grab the stick properly in my fist. The thumb finger would always float around because of that button. Having a realistic shape for the stick, where the thumb rest has a button on it (now a hat), coupled with a twist rudder does not work as well as a cheap T.FlightX I compared the X55 and the T.FlightX in Elite, next to eachother, and I eventually returned the X55. It was pretty, but very uncomfortable. I really hope this one is an improvement.

Thank god, after my nephew broke my X-55, I was holding out for the Star Citizen branded HOTAS, but I guess I'll be getting this till the absolute high end version of SC branded HOTAS comes out. One question, was the build quality improved on the X-56? it's because going from a X-52 Pro to X-55 felt like a downgrade to me in terms of build quality and that premium feeling.

You are absolutely right in wanting a lasting product, but that's not what a "premium feel" refers to. That's called quality construction. A premium feel refers to something feeling well made, most often as a substitute to actually _being_ well made. The mechanical parts of the gimbal in the Warthog you mentioned are a prime example.

Why would you need a stick for strafe, reverse and forward? When Forward and Reverse are your throttle you literally have two throttles, and strafe should be a twist axis of the joystick. BTW how much is this "Brand New Hotas"?

+Wild The advantage of the backwards and forwards on the stick as well as the throttles is 1) momentary controls, (eg, not having to force the throttle back to zero point), 2) finer moments at a slower speed. And the twist of the stick I would leave to twisting the ship rather than strafe.

Until the X-56 is released and I have one in my hands I can't demonstrate, but the Saitek video above does discuss mapping various functions to those mini sticks.

My X52 is 11 years old this month and still going strong. I understand the concerns in the Mad Katz downturn in quality, my pro panels and throttles are 18 months old and on the fritz already. so I don't see myself buying any more Saitek products until I start seeing reports of better quality control. Well here we a now in July 2016, finally my X52 packed up. I thought OK I'll get the X52Pro as a replacement. Ordered through Amazon. On arrival 2 buttons did not function and the calibration on the X & Y axis was way out and could not be fixed with the software. Sent back to Amazon for a refund. Now any confidence I had left in Saitek is gone. Looks like CH or Thrustmaster from now on, unless I hear reports that the QC has improved.

Ok, the major downside to this (by the look) is that a very useful secondary fire button has been removed and replaced with another(pointless) analog stick??? With the ones on the throttle, you dont need another on the stick...X55 buttons choice and layout were great, it was just the crap build that was the issue. Madcatz have offered me an X56 to replace my RMA'd X55...not sure I want it with the removal of that "thumb fire button" though :/

i`ve buy this Product, but the Software is very Buggy. -cannot add more Programming rows (Mode-X + Pinky) you fixed on only 3 Rows(Mode1-3). Witch the OLD X52 you can add more rows! -the option to set the Sliders on the Throttle in Section, its buggy when you try to set and move the Lines, not possible to click some, because its to low at the Screen and you cannot reach them, scrolling impossible. -LED, WHY it is not possible to SET the LED Color in cooperation wich MODE is selected? I made a review of the X-55 in german. It has quite some views and I am sure, people from saitek know it. I had compared it with the X52 Pro, which is indeed the best Saitek Hotas I had so far. And I critizised the X-55 reasonably. Especially center springs, plastic parts where the X52 had metal parts and so on. Positioning of buttons and coolie hats and so on. They do the same bullshit over and over again, and don't learn a single shit about what the customers are telling them. What the serious fuck.

So there is still zero adjustment on the joystick, still looks like its made for mutant hands, the top hats are still badly placed. So just to sum it up, you have removed the secondery fire button that was on the x55 and replaced it with a little joystick on the x56, thus removing the secondery fire button and not put in a 2 stage trigger to make up for it. So you have ignored all feedback, managed to make it worse and painted it blue and renamed it an x56 instead of an x55.

Well what can I say... I had an X55, FOR ONE WEEK. It was crap. The throttle was garbage. Super stiff even on the lightest setting. You had to whack it back and forth numerous times to loosen it up for flight. Then, leave it for a few hours and it was stiff again. Unless they have improved the design they can keep it. I should add of course, the X55 twist rudder was ridiculously heavy.

The build quality is cheap and shoddy. The Cobra M5 puts it to shame. The X52 should be redesigned with the 8 way hat on the throttle changed to analogue .

I think you can tell from many of the comments below (and all over the internet) you have to sort out your quality and customer service to gain credibility, my X52 is already grinding and clunking after only 6 months, believe me I use it very gently. Not acceptable after 6 months for the price point ..... So I'm out for sure

Even after they got bought out. Guess what. The product still stinks. Got x-56 under the new company i can tell this joystick will not last. Avoid buy this product. Support never got back to me on my x-55 that was replaced with a defective x-56. I had a back up x-56 while i waited for the replacement. My back up x-56 failed also.
