Just got the 8X14 (sorry I'm old school.....depth then diameter) today in Piano Black... can't wait to get it out and in the mix.

picked up a 14x8 a few weeks ago. I love it so much. One of the best sounding snares I've ever played. I think its gonna become one of those drums that every studio needs to have.

Man, that 14x5.5 at the higher tuning sounds so good. Actually, so does the 14x8.

“F***, I like it!” My reaction with literally everything I played or listened to at the drum center of Portsmouth embodied in one statement 😂😂

wooden Yamaha snares were absolut underrated back in the 1980's and 90's. Most of my buddies bought a Yamaha kit in this ages (because of GaddColaiutaWeckl) but without a snare drum (I had the brass 4X14). As recently as the maple absolute series appeared the wooden snares got the appreciation they deserve. My absolute favorite thing of the recording snares always were the gorgeous lugs........

I like the 8” and luckily have an original recording custom 8”-14” snare that sounds killer plus it has die cast hoops and it really pops yet with massive body like the one in this video.

Have an original 1984 14x8 Birch RC Snare & absolutely love it. Wonderful in every way. These new ones sound fantastic. Liking the 5.5.

I can’t believe how much body that 5.5” has considering that shallow depth! Yamaha makes some really amazing instruments

Both snares sounds really good, but that kick is absolutely fantastic, I hope you'll do a showcase for C&C drums in the new attic studio.

Weather using the room mic or full mix that 14X5.5 carried the same sound. Reminds me of the 14X4 Black Iron a few months back.

I would pay any price for Yamaha to make a reissue RC Jacaranda snare… you’ve all heard one and it’s the most legendary drum sound ever 😁

Both sound really good,...5.5 seems a little more versatile..YOU GUYS SHOULD DO A COMPARISON OF TOM SIZES, A 12X8 VS 12X9, 10X7 VS10X8, 16X16VS16X14 ETC ETC..

The 5.5" has an old school tone. Maybe the 30 degree edges lends to this? No 6.5x14 model?

A 6.5” deep with diecasts would round out this series beautifully. Yep....I love diecast hoops.

Cory W Yes we can. My Recording Custom Aluminum has diecasts and it’s a wonderful drum. And you can install diecasts on any drum you want. The comment was mainly for the missing 6.5” Depth size that’s oddly missing. But hey......I have a cast Bronze snare now so I really don’t care anymore.

I was saying the 14X5.5 Yamaha had the same sound qualities as the 14X4 Black Iron using the room mic or full mix. I still would go with the 14X4 Black Iron

I see John JR Robinson’s vintage Recording Custom in Sunset Brown in the background. Can you please make a video on that piece of history? I’m guessing that it may be the kit he used on the Michael Jackson records. Please, please, please.

@@drumcenternh Note: that model would be late 70s to early 80s, like Steve Jordan’s kit showcased on Steve Maxwell’s KZbin video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5zbiah8lKyXgaM Unlike the models after the late 80s, these have the thinner shells with the rounded bearing edges and the 14” deep kicks. It would be nice if you could do a comparison of old vs new.

5.5" killed at both tunings. 8" high tuning was great...low tuning sounded a bit sloppy.
