Having lived in Northern Tenerife this brought more than a tear to my eyes remembering all the wonderful traditions. It was the call of the grandsons that brought me back 5 years ago still miss it and the people with their traditions terribly. Ah wonderful. I tasted every dish with you. The brooch caught me, what a magnificent idea to capture his friend forever for his son. Phillip, I noticed is some mover, and his knowledge of stemware and porcelain and setting a table, well frankly he knows every thing about furnishing and fabrics too, he is a treasure. The outfits were fabulous, the dancing energetic. I am understandably exhausted haha. Happy New Year to one and all in 2023.

Just be careful if you cancel. In the US they called me several times a week and pressured me to not cancel. At one point the person on the other end swore at me. They’d call from robo call numbers and became harassing. I filed a complaint with the better business bureau here in the states.

Empanadas are also made in Spain particularly in Cantabria and Galicia. Also Ensaladilla Rusa (Russian Salad) is served in raciones or tapas in the bars, or a least it was. It may have usurped by more modern and upmarket tapas. It is though a staple in most houses for buffets. At our celebration for the millennium we were introduced to the Spanish custom of eating one grape on the beats of the clock at midnight. My sister has lived in Spain since 1971 and my grandfather was from a small village in Cantabria. Your do was very reminiscent of family do's around Christmas.

In Louisiana, we have King Cake on the Epiphany (12th night - January 6th) official start of Mardi Gras Season. The king cake has a “baby” tucked inside. Tradition dictates that finding the baby in your cake symbolizes luck and prosperity…..but we usually say that person has to furnish the next King Cake! Our King Cakes are more like a cinnamon roll and can have your choice of different fillings but always decorated on top with purple, green and gold colored sugar! They are yummy!

I had to laugh at your response. I was telling my husband all about the 12 grapes and saying to him we would do it next year. He said 'are you insane, that is a choking hazard'. My response 'no it is FUN'. His final word 'not bloody likely, one of us will end up dead 1 minute after midnight. Oh well, I have 12 months to convince him.

Even if he doesn't do it, I would love to give it a go and be thinking of all the other peoople around the world doing the same thing at the same time (taking into account time differences).
