Fireworks have been banned in the Philippines for a couple or so decades now, and yet…😅 Still, this is the tame version of the Philippine new year’s fireworks compared to how we did it in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. We just didn’t have drones or YT back then 😄

This is Philippines every new year nationwide and grew up with this last yr was crazy too in my street but this yr some of my neighbors didn’t light a firecracker or fireworks we just have to watch from the other streets. Kinda missed it to be honest but also kinda relived for the stray dogs and cats.

Metro Manila and the entire country is practically at war, and battles in fireworks are fought everywhere even in remotest barrios from Batanes in northern philippines to Bongao, tawitawi in Mindanao in the far south, and from Bicol in the east, to Palawan Island to the west. its practically in our genes to light fireworks during New Year -- for it seems that the New Year Celebrations is'nt complete without a whiff of gunpowder or even a Bengal Light ( e.g. "Lucis") in hand. Some people tried to innovate other noisemakers such as revving their motorcycles --- which isn't actually entertaining or exciting -- but rather absolutely annoying ( makes you wanna set the damn motor on fire). Moreover, we can say to foreigners, that one reason why the entire Philippines is celebrating like this is that we collectively celebrate and thank God that we had gone through one year and we are all hoping for a better year ahead. Happy New Year!

AFAIK.... the Filipinos were still holding back on fireworks this year.... back in the late 90's....and early 2000's.... NYE fireworks resembled something like carpet bombing run by waves of B-52 bombers over a wide area

to think that it has lessen for about 30-50%,way back almost 10 yrs ago, when the clock ticks 11pm,its so dangerous to get out of the house bec everyone is lighting firecrackers on the streets and they are so dangerous it can literally cost you an arm. there were fire crackers like belts of a thousand shots. there were a triangle cracker about 1 ruler big, hospitals were always on red alert and the morning of january 1, you cannot see anything because the whole city is covered with thick smog there are tons and tons of firecracker packaging left on the streets not to mention phil economy now is so down theyll rather spend on whats essential.

You see only the video footage from the vantage point of a hotel window in Metro Manila. But most of the REAL ACTION AND PARTYING we Filipinos do to hail in the New Year happens at street level! From the streets in front of our houses, before and after midnight, we Filipinos set off literally THOUSANDS of FIRECRACKERS, SOME OF THEM LOUD ENOUGH TO RATTLE PLATES AND SHATTER EARDRUMS. Then comes the Judas' Belt, a really long string of firecrackers that menfolk set off in the streets. The sound and fury of the firecrackers are meant to drive away evil and bad vibes prior for the arrival of the New Year. Even during the time of our grandparents, besides the really loud firecrackers, they improvise BAMBOO CANNONS FUELED EITHER BY ALCOHOL AND SALTPETER! However, we Filipinos also know that we MUST be EXTRA CAREFUL when setting off firecrackers and fireworks. The risks are simply there --- blasted arms and legs, burns, house fires do occur during this celebrated night.
