Love these nails! As far as dating someone who retired from the military, guuurrrllll! This man has been told what to do, how to do it, and when to do it, and how to dress, his whole adult life. Doesn’t matter what his job and rank was. He was told “how to” his entire adult life. He could never say “NO” to a lawful order. He has had his life planned for him the entirety of his military career. It is especially hard for him to transition into civilian life. It is nothing personal towards you. He literally needs to figure out how to adult. I am speaking from experience here. My husband was active duty for more than 20 years and it was a cluster for him to transition to civilian life. I’ve seen it with all our other military retiree friends too. It’s such a “culture shock” that they have to take a 5 day course on how to live outside of the military. Five days is definitely not enough. I was the only spouse in my hubs class (of 30) that went with him because they encouraged spouses to go. Active duty and retired military are not easy to date. It takes quite a bit of energy and patience and grace to do so. It’s more than what you think you’ll think it’ll be. Not everyone is up for this type of challenge. Yes I called it a challenge, because honestly that’s what it is.

When a pair actually decide to meet & try..there are so many limbs to branches of a mutha of a tree!!!! I agree with you, no kissing on the first date. UNLESS I feel like it! I get so tired of people~ing sometimes. Good intentions are one thing~& masks are another!!! We do not know what another is going through unless we hear it & can relate! & even then, 90% of the time we have no idea, because WE ARE individuals on a journey!!!! Nodding again to Coffee Shops for dates! I heard from a wise woman that dating was kinda like finding a Treasure Chest. I’ll be 62 on the 29th and if I even thought of dating nowadays~~~I wouldn’t! Seems as though most men aren’t “men” anymore 😢. I grew up in a generation where men were men. You are the same age as my youngest son. My daughter would have turned 44 in February 2025. There isn’t enough money on this earth for me to go back 20-30 years and have to date 😂 God bless you for being out there and trying! I’m quite content with my little apartment with my dog & cat, my own place, polishing my nails and only cooking when I want. I think something really bad happened in the last 20 years which made men to feminine or they need a “safe place” when they’re offended by a word~~good ole human language. I wish you the best. My advice is stop looking and you’ll accidentally run into a real guy. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being alone with your animals. You can come and go as you please. I have more male friends than female friends and I’m good with that. Best of luck.

Dude I totally get that about not doing what you say you're going to. I'm currently separated and my soon to be ex husband would do that all the friecken time. Tell me I'll call you when I wake up (he's retiring from the military and I had to move a bit earlier than him because I am helping care for my dad) then he'd never call and not even mention it. It drove me absolutely insane!

I'm the absolute world's worst remembering calling/texting a person back. My worst dating disaster was actually criminal, and a very hard lesson learned. I met a dude online, and we chatted for a good week before actually meeting, and our first date was taking our dogs to the park for a romp. After that, all seemed good, so we went for coffee and then watched a few movies back at my house. I know.. so stupid. Anyways, he thought he was staying the night but no sir. We kinda fell off talking, until I saw him on the news after he offed his dad. I dodged a huge bullet. I also found out later that he stole some of my son's medications and the freaking DVD we was watching. Turned out, he was a pill head and went psycho. Mind you, he was absolutely huge, like over 7 ft tall, and kinda looked like uncle fester if I'm honest. There's so much more to that story, but I think that's enough information. I did really like his dog though, and felt really bad for it.

@ I mean most of my relationships have been a joke. Whirlwind romance turn sour very quickly kind of deal. The woman I’ve been with for a year now is something new and different. Communication is amazing which makes me so happy! One story I do remember was when I was like 16…went on a date with a guy and all he wanted was to make out. Ok yeah well my contact lenses got lost in one of my eyes and I had to leave early lol so that was fun lol 😝

Marla….don’t date a vet, or an active duty dude. Huge chance of them having TBI’s if they were ever in combat which is NOTHING but problems later in life. It’s just not worth the hassle.

I went on a first date with a pilot! ( I was single living in Germany working for the Military~GS) I had a horrible break up 7 months prior with a Man Child who freaking stole my expensive Cannondale bike to pay his wife alimony for his kid, WHAT....I did not even know! I was walking a fine line & a male friend set us up. I planned out the date, because Germany...I knew of so many cool places that were in where my work was. So I told him the date, when, why: to find out a little bit about each other, I knew I could connect because I set it up, but he was late. Almost 20 minutes. I reeled myself in, because the amazing Backeri, German Bakery~was around other super cool stores, & I bought a fantastic pair of earrings & a rocking pair of black shoes in those 20 minutes...He ordered his own Coffee & told me for the next half hour how exclusive he was. How he always wanted to be a Pilot. How he KNEW "I went to the Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins, & knew everything about Top Gun! (BORING!) When I got to talk I introduced myself to him & smiled & asked him what he did on his off time. (1/2 hr into this whole debacle!) He drove a BMW. Of Course....over in Germany........He invited me back to his place for an hr. Ummmmmmm...Naw Dawg!!!! I am good, saying it with a smile! Lets keep this introductionary...this is the first date. I invited him to go on a walk around this beautiful place, I told him a bit of the history of Buedingen, Germany. I showed him the bestest places to get Brotchen~rolls & pubs & walked around the park bu the pool...quite lovely. He was so bored! He got slapped with a no, with a smile & then could have walked away while I enjoyed my little Dorf~city.....he was a big & mighty man in the Government, but was looking for immediate satisfaction, & I was not that!!! I like fine wine! I like long strolls! I like people to show up on time! I did get a great pair of earrings & shoes that day!!! 🖤

At first I was like maybe he was nervous or just fresh back in the dating scene and tends to ramble. Its the not doing what he says he is going to do plus the mixed vibes.....those are red flags coupled with the only talks about himself. I don't know! Now see in four hours I would have excused myself to also take care of my needs if that was a problem to allow five minutes to step outside then that would have sealed it for me right then and there! I'm all about black manis!! I clean up the nails prior to polishing unless there are layers or glitter then I will also clean up after.....not a lumpy bumpy nail girl!
