New York City May 2023 Walking Tour - Coney Island | Memorial Day

Coney Island is a peninsula located in the southern part of Brooklyn, New York City. It is known for its beach, amusement parks, boardwalk, and historic attractions.
The beach at Coney Island stretches for almost three miles along the Atlantic Ocean, and is a popular destination for locals and tourists during the summer months. The beach is also home to Nathan's Hot Dogs, which has been serving up its famous franks since 1916.
Several of the amusement rides at Coney Island are the Cyclone roller coaster and the Wonder Wheel. In addition to the amusement park, Coney Island also has a number of historic attractions, including the Coney Island Museum and the New York Aquarium.

" It's not what it used to be" people will say and as a 65-year-old Brooklynite, I have to agree. Coney Island had its day up into the 1950s, by the time I was kid going there it was a hell hole, boarded up store fronts, Steeplechase Park was closing along with the Parachute ride, the beach and boardwalk were always filthy, and gangs roamed the area. Nostalgia is a funny thing. CI is 100% better today and the kids going there now will have great memories. Let's be thankful "it's not what it used to be".

Lived right down the street on West 5th for 18 years. Went back in 2019 to visit. Had a fantastic 20th floor view of Coney Island and the beach. Sadly, the ASTRO Tower is gone. Bumper car place is still there.
