I'm 68 and that was like us East-Coasters here in North-America mocking the Stones and how 'Poof' was easy to do in a great style that helped usher in Punk. England did fire a salvo back in the form of the Clash' 'London Calling' shortly after, but it was America's joke via the NYC Dolls, that help wake their youth up to the fraud, rock was becoming.

I waited for this album in 1973! In the '70s Rock music was happening FAST. '69-Stooges, '70-Black Sabbath, '71-T.Rex, '72-Alice Cooper, '73-NYDolls. My first love was Metal/Hard Rock, but I checked it ALL out. I'm 62 now, and with KZbin l still check it ALL out.

@Coogan Bull shite -they were a DIY band, that were getting away from Emerson, Lake & Palmer or the band Yes. NY Dolls the Stooges, the Ramones in 74. None of them were Punk because they came before, but they went to Europe, got Malcolm MacLaren (later manages the Sex Pistols) to be their manager, etc. They Are proto-Punk. Maybe you're more of an 80 GLAM (Gay LA Metal) fan, and want the Dolls as part of your lineage, but they just are not. Look at Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers, after the Dolls - very much Punk.

The New York Dolls were and still are a fantastic group. Just love them. There is no doubt that Punk would have happened in the UK without this group. Unlike some other posts, I am sure Malcom Maclaran, the Sex Pistols manager and saw them In a concert in New York in the early 70s. Came back to the UK and wanted to form a band which replicated the NYDOLLS music. The Sex Pistols were formed and the rest is history.

As an avid watcher of TOGWT from when it took over from 'Colour me pop', I can honestly say I was blown over by the Dolls, like a smack between the eyes (as I was the previous year with Starman and Bowie)! I think we all needed a change from all that pretentious 'prog rock' stuff with drum and guitar solos that put years on you! And by the Gods, we got it, with the precursors of punk...

As a fan of Genesis , Yes and Tull - I wholeheartedly approve of this magnificent song and performance. Bob didn't have a clue. The following year , Genesis recorded a double album telling the story of a New York punk called Rael.

where is this rebellious energy and outspoken truth about shitty reality nowadays? It's just like the New York Dolls broke down every doors the establishment tried to close in front of them, plus they were pionneers amongst all kind of other bands coming out of nowhere and even today I will always maintain that they still are the best of the best and in my opinion if there was a true godlike representation of rock n'roll nowadays it could only be the good old line-up of the 70's Dolls.

If he meant 'mocking rock', that was a good observation. Seems like arena rock was becoming big in those days, and then relief came in the form of punk, or in this case, the precursor to punk. Hit it!
