@@mgb4692I 5hink 1984 was a crucial & great year for the NFL (labor unrest married the league in 4hat era), and there were quality teams, but I think 1998 was better when it comes to excellent teams that can win it all. The 49ers were the class of the league (to me, their best team at 15-1), and Miami was hot from start to finish, but other teams were just warming up (Bears, Giants) and the AFC Central had a ways to go at the time, so a Super Bowl 19 had the expected matchup (although since many were starstruck by Dan Marino, there was a belief that the Dolphins would win, but in retrospect they were inferior to the 49ers).

The Seattle Seahawks were a very competitive and solid football team in the early 80s through the mid 80s... And Seattle had one of the "best" home field advantages in the NFL during that time. The Kingdome was a legit very hard place to win on the road during this time.

This loss was the reason the Giants got homefield advantage over the Bears in a tie breaker. Bears were 14 2 as well as the Giants but both Bears losses were to NFC opponents. The Giants lost to Dallas NFC team but this loss to Seattle was AFC out of conference. First tie breaker was conference record. So this was not a bad loss. I know it didn't matter eventually cause Skins beat Bears in playoffs but still

The Seahawks finished strong down the stretch in 86, winning the last 5 games, including a beatdown of the eventual AFC champion Broncos. Maybe the Giants are lucky they didn't make the playoffs that year.

@@tomcollins5112 I think the Kingdome was a pretty big advantage for the Seahawks here. The Giants' previous game had been on an overcast, chilly day in Gaints Stadium, and now here they were inside this incredibly loud and hostile overlit dome. I find it annoying to even watch this game off of VHS--it's so loud, and so overlit that everything is washed-out white. A pretty obnoxious venue, in my opinion. But the Seahawks were a good team, and it would've been interesting to see them play the Giants on neutral ground later on. I wonder if Phil Simms would've had as much trouble against them then. Also, the Giants probably would've done better if they'd had Mark Bavaro here, and if LT hadn't gotten a concussion the previous week. They definitely weren't in top form.

Giants clearly the best team in 1986. If anyone was going to stop them I think the possible though unlikely teams would have been: (1) Bears (had they got by Washington) (2) Browns (had they beat Denver) (3) Seahawks (if they made the playoffs and then SB) (4) Dolphins (ditto) (they were only 8-8 but just maybe that Marino passing game could have bested that tough G defense). I have no doubt the Giants would have dispatched KC, the Jets, the Rams, the Pats, and all the non-playoff teams.
