I am wondering to what extent the ubiquitous popularity of French intellectuals like Jacques Derrida, Jean Francois Lyotard and Michel Foucault laid the groundwork on college campuses for the binary narrative of powerful and powerless, etc.? From a friend of mine who was in grad school at the U of Irvine already there was already a troubling trend toward ideological dogma that suppressed any sort of questions or criticism.

Bret Stevens got some things very wrong. Mainly, he is blaming Netanyahu for the top generals misdeeds. Was he wrong to assume that matkal (army top generals) would do as the law required, and keep the government informed? Maybe, but who would predict the elites desire, to overturn the democratically elected government, would be so strong that they would allow over a thousand Israelis to be brutally gang r4ped, tortured and murdered? But, the truth is, matkal knew of Hamas's plans months in advance. They told the young women, in listening posts, to stop raising the alarm about an invasion. They even ignored the thousands of Israeli SIM cards, activated in Gaza, on October 6. Perhaps they were so incompetent, and blinded by their conceptzia, that they didn't think there would be an attack. But, why didn't they notify the government, as they are legally required to do, even if they thought it would amount to nothing? Stpehens, and the other elites, who have captured the media, want it to be Bibi's fault. But it is much more the illegally appoint Halevi's and the other leftist top generals'.
