Back in 1973 when I was exploring your beautiful country, I stumbled onto the small community of Okarito on the west coast South Island. The large natural lagoon rivermouth was the foundation of countless cold offshore tubular empty left and right steeple peaks. I revisited Okarito in 2016 and found the community population had risen from 3 to 27. And that unriden surf spot I witnessed almost 50 years earlier was still pumping. Anyone out there surf this spot?

They do have a a B&B and a nice campground, but it’s so out of the way. Plus, the sandflies will literally eat you alive😂!
