Newark Ohio Fire Department Arson Fire #2 at 32 N. Buena Vista St. Blocked View.

On May 18, 2020 at 2359 hours NFD units were dispatched to 32 N. Buena Vista Street for report of a house fire. While responding the dispatcher advised they were receiving additional calls reporting smoke and fire showing.

The following equipment was on the initial assignment:
Battalion-1 with a crew of 1 (Me)
Rescue-1 (engine/rescue) with a crew of 4
Tower-1 (105 ft platform) with a crew of 4
Engine-2 with a crew of 3
Medic-2 (firefighter/paramedics) with a crew of 2
Ladder-3 (100 ft ladder) with a crew of 3
Medic-3 with a crew of 2
The working fire announcement brought an additional 2 engines and 1 medic
Engine-52 (Heath FD) with a crew of 2
Rescue-51 (Heath FD-engine/rescue) with a crew of 3
Medic-201 (Granville FD) with a crew of 3
Upon arrival a 360 of the building revealed fire on the back side of the structure with fire extending to division-2. Because this house had previously been set on fire, all of the windows and doors were covered with plywood by our Property Maintenance Department.
Unfortunately most of the view is blocked by apparatus. Nothing can be done about this.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries at this fire. A firefighter was subsequently transported to the hospital due to an illness.
This video was recorded with a Motorola Z Force Droid cell phone, which limits the length of each video to about 30 minutes.

One of the reasons that I posted this video is because is shows how hard the driver/operator works, and how important their role is. Money can't buy a good driver/operator. They can anticipate the needs and already be moving that direction with whatever it is.

We did not. All equipment was return to its rig in good working condition at the conclusion of this one.

Rescue 1 is the workhorse of most of the videos I've seen of yours chief. Was fantastic to see them operate!! Engine 2 crew as well. Not seeing the fire building made it easier to see truck operation and to follow radio traffic. Another great job from your department. Arson angers me. Chief, just curious as to something I noticed when Rescue 1 arrived on scene. Their scene/flood lights were on and they are blinding lights. There is no way that traffic can see their emergency lights with those on. Do you know if they were on during their response or turned on once they arrived on scene?

@@kenturner2349 No offense taken. Before LED scene lights, the driver would have to hold the pre-start button for the diesel generator for 60 seconds before hitting the start button. All of this while driving lights and siren to a fire.

Depends on the fire call a fire investigator is to find out what caused the fire and what not once the fire is out on scene units can ask for a fire investigator to be called out

The first 8 months of being in the fire service, I was told by couple different people that I had got more training and responded to more calls than most people get during their entire time of being on the volunteer fire Dept. All because of an arsonist running around all winter long in 2017, I would say what the hell am I doing out here these conditions suck!! but....to this day the next call I have hastily made my way to the station, calls would come in around 4 or 5am mutual aid, middle of winter in Nebraska, some mornings temperatures were at -10 -15 below zero, fully engulfed structures and a few times the very next morning same location different structure on the same property, water lines would freeze if you wasn't careful but always did before you could get it rolled up, my bibs and coat would freeze solid almost impossible to move, 18 structures and 1 vehicle in all, two 18 year old boys and it was the vehicle that got them busted, it was only 5-6 structures that they were held accountable for. Even though all 18 structures were abandoned homes, barns, garages, or concession stand at the park in 4 different towns, it was still arson and they were in serious trouble, they are lucky no firemen were injured. From that first call at -15 below I have had the upmost respect for firefighters for the extreme conditions they must endure to do their job, it's exhausting. stay safe and make it home Volunteer First Responder Scott Shipman

Might be a dumb question but if this home already had a suspicious fire and several days later it has another arson fire, why not just do a search to make sure no one is inside, then just protect all the exposures and let it just burn to the ground? Turn it into a training session? why risk the firemens lives?

You will love it. I carry one with me. Best belt light I have ever owned. If you are interested in a different holster, the Blackhawk CQC flashlight holder works perfectly. You will have to remove the pocket clip from the flashlight but it holds the flashlight solidly.

No. It was a vacant/abandoned home that had burned a couple of weeks prior to this.

@@commandvisionfire Any idea on motivation for torching an abandoned house like this? If there's no owner/insurance it's not insurance fraud. If unoccupied it can't be accidental or an attempt on the life of the residents. Just a pyromaniac looking for thrills, or is there someone who would stand to benefit from the house being gone? Obviously if this is still an open investigation I doubt you can say much.

@@AndrewZonenberg Fires like this can be ruled "a human act" meaning that it started as result of a person, but not necessarily with the intent to destroy the building. For instance if a homeless person was burning inside of a pan to heat food or simply for warmth, that would be a human act. Or even a discarded cigarette would be a human act but not necessarily arson. However, if there was evidence of accelerants or other material to intentionally cause the fire that would be arson. And arson fire could be one homeless person made another homeless person living in this abandoned house. Or it could be a neighbor wanting to get rid of the house because they are upset with the homeless people going in and out. Possibly the owner who doesn't want to pay to have the house torn down as result of the previous fire. These are just any number of possibilities.

10/14/20 my department and the backup department was called for a structure fire @ 10:30 we were there for 5 hrs that night, called back @ 7, 12:30, and then 6pm the next day. Still haven’t found a cause of the fire and the house was totally destroyed.
