Absolutely brilliant and such a perfect and unselfish antidote to all the vile hate on the internet. This is exactly what happened to my projector. I followed your instructions despite being a bit daunted by how complex it looked to do. Found the fan, opened it up and removed secveral chunks of bulb glass. Working once more. Very satisfying thanks to you taking the time to post up this. Thanks once more.

Just wanted to say thank you like so many other people here. This was exactly my problem and I was ready to bin the projector. With little experience and watching the video I did pull it all apart and there was a lot of dust and two glass fragments in the fan. Great video and this should give me another 4000hrs of viewing. Well done.

Thank you so much, fixed my W1070+. The bulb exploded 6 months ago but we removed it for cleaning, when we reinstalled it. It came up with the same error code after 3 minutes. After taking the fan out and cleaning it. The projector worked as good as new. Thank you!

Great video! Just got done cleaning out my w1070 after a bulb popped. A couple comments.... 1. The black "strap" on the corner of the PCB sits on TOP of the PCB. I noticed when you re-assembled you put it underneath the PCB. I doubt it is a problem, but just thought I should point it out. 2. A 5mm socket works perfectly for installing and removing the hex head screws around the VGA and RS232 ports. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
@NewbComputerBuild
@NewbComputerBuild 7 жыл бұрын
Great feedback! I hadn't noticed putting the black strap on top of the PCB, so great catch. And yes thank you, a 5mm socket would have been much more efficient than using the small pliers I used for those hex screws, great to know for anyone who's going to take their unit apart.

Thanks you very much for your encouragement. I was in the same situation: exploded lamp, fitted a new one (Osram bulb only), after which the projector would not stay on for more than 3-5 minutes. I did not really encounter much debris in the bottom fan, but I clean out all parts anyway. During the first assembly I forgot to connect one cable, but after second attempt all seemed to work fine. I'd say all in all this took me about 1-1.5 hours.

@@NewbComputerBuild Was there mercury in the bulb? If so, did you expose yourself to it? Residue mercury still present will evaporate in the heat and the fan(s) will make it an airborne hazard. Best to run the projector outside for 10 mins and let it cool sufficiently.

Just followed your Video and repaired my W1070. Thanks a lot for putting this online! Damn hidden Fan3 - they really could have made that more accessible. I disassembled my projector as you did in this very video - in fact I had my laptop on the table while I did it and watched your video. But I have to say it's not that complicated - once you lose the fear before it, it's pretty straight forward (and backwards when you re-assemble it). Unfortunately it doesn't fix MY problem, I still get the LAMP-error, so my hope is, that I bought a bad lamp and get a working one in return. But no matter what the future will bring, I have to say, I'm pretty proud of myself that I did it (and it didn't explode on the first test) because 2 weks ago I would have never thought that I would be able to do that without destroying the entire thing :) So thank you anyways :)

I have the same projector and my bulb exploded a few weeks ago. I got about 3500 hours. But I decided to by a Chinese ebay cartridge for $70 rather than $300. It was flickering after 2 minutes and after a few experiments I found that it works only in Cinema Mode. If I change the option to Normal or Bright it flickers. Weird. I also had to clean a the shattered glass out of my unit too. Glad to hear that yours blew up too.

Tyvm for this great video and links. My bulb exploded some days ago and i've yet replaced it. Thankfully, it seems all fans are working right (checked in page 2 of service menu, after pressing MENU,ENTER+SOURCE at projectors button panel). After two or three hours of use it seems everything's ok. Anyway, as I've read that high operating temperatures could be the cause of lamp explosions I checked which temperature was the lamp operating at, and saw it's working around 280-300 degrees (F). I tried to get info on the recommended or desired operating temp for the lamp but couldn't find anything. Which range of temperature do your projectors are getting?

@NewbComputerBuild
@NewbComputerBuild 7 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the only way to tell is by taking the projector apart. Mine was also on the ceiling when my bulb popped, it should be easy to take down. Even if you pop the cover off and take the broken lamp out you have no way of seeing inside the blower fan since it's covered in the back of the projector. If you are hesitant on buying a bulb before knowing for sure, I would just take it all apart and shake the blower fan out, and almost guarantee glass shards will fall out, both from my experience and from everyone I've heard from.

no need, just put the nozzle up into the fan, whilst the projector still mounted upside down, put something in the little hole to keep the projector on, blow it out. shards of glass will come out so wear glasses. just did it then, fixed. edit: firstly take the lamp mount out, forgot to add that. gl

Hey - glad you like the video, and it's tough to tell why your unit isn't powering on at all. I'd first check if the new bulb is plugged all the way in? Also make sure the top lid is attached properly as it needs to push down a black button below it to trigger the power buttons to work.

OMG ... my light bulb exploded last week, I ordered a new lamp and ... have the same problem. Projector starts but within a few seconds a get the LAMP signal and nothing happens. So, it looks like I have to do the same as you did, thanks for the video because I really was like buying a new one and throwing away this one. But now I think I have to try this first ... I mean, after all, I can't make it any worse, can I? Even if it doesn't work (or I'm too dumb to get it reassembled) I'm at the same point as "I have to buy a new one" but THIS NOW is a chance to save a lot of money and getting back the projector I love so much. Another question ... the fans at the side of the projector - aren't these "normal" fans that will also be used in computers? Haven't you thought about changing them with better fans (more powerful, more silent etc.)? Looks like there is room for optimization :)

@Kumari_44
@Kumari_44 2 жыл бұрын
I rock lamps until the wheels fall off and i get as close to that 5000 hours as possible before the lamp literally stops working. But its a very bad idea though. Yeah you can easily get up to a year+ of lamplife once the ‘replace lamp’ image starts showing. But by doing so you risk the lamp exploding and spreading glass everywhere. My first one didnt. But my second one did. Boom! Lamp 3 was working for a few months until all of a sudden, not working. Long story short its likely bits of that glass finally found its way into the blower fan. Tldr; dont be stupid like me just to skimp out on spending money. replace your lamp when youre supposed to.

Hello i have dust inside the len (benq W1070+)... I can see it on dark scenes.... How can i clean it ??? Or should i send it for cleaning ? I have one more year of warranty
@NewbComputerBuild
@NewbComputerBuild 7 жыл бұрын
I'd try to send it in for cleaning if that's a possibility, contact benQ support to make sure. Otherwise you would have to take the entire thing a part and risk cleaning the color wheel (which I have not done...but have heard others with success).

Those are mostly likely dust spots. May have to try and find a way to blow those spots out: www.avsforum.com/forum/68-digital-projectors-under-3-000-usd-msrp/1668122-benq-w1070-dust-spots-inside-lens-fix.html

Did you replace the top of the lamp enclosure when testing? There is a pressure sensitive trigger preventing power from coming on while the housing is open.

Question: Cant you remove Projection glass part out - take out lamp and blow that fan from front side without disassembling whole projector? Or that part of the projector is fixed and better not to disassemble? Anyways, great video!
@NewbComputerBuild
@NewbComputerBuild 7 жыл бұрын
Good question and I thought the same as you at first. My first try I took compressed air and shot it into the blow fan by just taking the lamp assembly out, but it didn't work. The blower fan has very thin blades and the glass from my bulb was lodged into them. There was a considerable amount of glass shards that came out of my blower fan when I took it out and tapped it against my desk. I think its worth a try before taking it apart, but it most likely won't do the trick.

followed your video to take unit apart and clean some dust off... awesome video except for some of the music halfway through. anybody else has their housing get really hot? when I take cover off to remove bulb, the plastic on top was turning brown and broke off easily....

Thank you and what's wrong with this awesome creative commons music? haha. Sorry I'm not sure what would cause the housing to heat up to the extent it would brown the plastic top, sounds like an electrical problem.

Was also greatly helped by the video but due to sloppiness/tiredness I must have missed some ground connection or something so the projector was completely dead after reassembly. I had to do the complete teardown again and reassemble it very meticulously, and then it worked. So please be careful to note which screws go where, which metal is supposed to touch and so on.

My ht2050/w1110 got bulb exploded too. Then I bought a new bulb and installed it myself. Then when I turned it on. It lasts about a minute or two. The image would go from dimmer greenish color to brighter with colors getting pronounced then it flicker. Flickering intensifies then it shuts down by itself. Can anybody help me clarify what's going on here?

My bulb blew out last week (3600+ hours) and I replaced the bulb without issue, cleaned the fan as explained in the video and reassemble everything. But now when i start the projector, the power light is green and blinking (and don't stop) and the Fans are running for 2-3s and then stop completely. Power light is still bkinking green. Bulb is off and nothing is happening Do you know this error code? I can't find anything on official documentation. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!
