Over 8 years of not riding a motorcycle I decided to buy a liter bike! What was I thinking? Today was my first ride and I feel very much like a newbie. So much to learn....

8-9 years without riding isn't a big deal if the person's got 20 years experience riding bikes. He just took a break for a while (probably into fast cars - like many of us). Then he decided to get back into riding a bike. BUT if you have NO experience riding a motorcycle I think it's STUPID to get a Liter Bike. You really need to get a solid 5 years experience riding smaller bikes first. I had about 7 years experience (on and off road) before I moved to a really fast bike, and I still had to be careful and take my time.

True respect the power, I still have my old 1999 R1 and still respect the power. Exiting a corner leaned over; hard on the throttle in 2nd or 3 rd gear still takes some restraint just in case I hit some slippery pavement. 17 years and counting and this old R1 . Better to be safe to some degree than sorry and high side. I remember back in the day many guys crashing them because they were so powerful and light compared to previous bikes.

It wasn’t until I got my motorcycle a couple days ago and have been riding that I realized why people say don’t buy a big bike as your first one. Sure, if you don’t screw up, you’ll be fine. If you never accidentally drop the clutch too fast, or accidentally give too much throttle in a turn, and never accidentally do anything wrong, you’ll never have a problem. But I’ve come to realize that in certain situations when there’s a lot going on around you, I tend to sometimes accidentally give a little too much throttle, or Mis judge my clutches friction zone, and I’m safe when I do that because I picked a slower bike. But in a liter bike? I imagine I wouldve dropped it already because it’s not forgiving like mine is.

@@Valkyrie11b any beginner getting on a litre bike is brain dead anyway. You don't just start from day 1 on a litre bike because you have the licence, but someone experienced on powerful dirt bikes or even a 125 and has been riding for a long time and has the maturity and respect for a powerful machine can certainly ride a litre bike in low performance mode if available. I'm not even bringing a complete novice into the equation, thats just mental. But MANY people have started on a litre bike, not that i recommend it at all, especially if they are under 25.

Same story of the guy that barely knows how to ride buys the fastest bike he can and has nowhere near the ability to use it at even half its potential. smart with the safety course I'll give you that. but honestly man, if you need to work on your SHIFTING then I personally don't see why you have any business being on a SUPER BIKE, maybe even a 600. I was well into my 600 days before I even hopped on a 1000. If you haven't even gone HALF WAY up the rpms, and your already saying it's got "crazy power" you're clearly not ready. I know I'm being a snob, but this stuff is important to me and seeing a fellow rider who diffinitely has the potential to be a great one doing something like this breaks my heart. and trust me, I love what real power feels like! but I took my time and learned a few things before I got on something with 180 plus horsepower.

@D00GNUKEM. 7 жыл бұрын
Josh De voe not everyone thinks the same way. Perhaps he does not have the money to change bikes 2-3 times while hes riding out that learning curve. Or perhaps he is like me. Me personally, if i set my sights on something. Anything else is going to pale in comparison. Say for instance i really wanted a new dewalt 20v drill. And someone said here man have this brand new free 18v makita. I would still likely end up purchasing the drill i had intended to buy. Even though i have something that works just as well, with a little less power. There is a reason i have not purchased a motorcycle lol. I would love to own one. Ive been drooling over R6's for years. But knowing my predisposition to open up throttles. If i bought the bike i wanted as my first bike. i might as well make the first ride on it straight over to the monument place to put a downpayment on a super cool headstone. Yet i know if i buy something smaller to learn on with a little less oomph i wont be happy with it from the minute i buy it and therefore that excitement would not be the same every time i hop on it to go for a ride. So instead ive decided to live vicariously through youtube until i feel like i can trust myself to not use every last cc i have available to me. Lol This guy seems to totally respect the fact that he is riding 150+ horses and that he is by no means a professional rider. Its all in attitude. He got the bike he wanted. He can learn on it just as well as any bike as long as he is careful. and its a bike he can be happy with for the rest of his riding career. I mean Can you even get bored of a litre bike? Apart from like fighter jets and drag racing where do you go from there!?

I just watch a lot of biker vlogs and have based my perception of a proper shift on the shifts many other riders perform. I could just be wrong anyway. Gonna cop me a CBR 600rr tho. i have a 16 cbr600rr and its awesome. tip #1 be responsible. you dont need to show off and you have nothing to prove. its way cooler to have a 600 that has been treated well and not wrecked than busting your ass showing off. #2 the throttle is very touchy if in 1st or 2nd gear so be careful and id recommend pulling in the clutch on slow (under 25mph) turns especially in traffic so you dont hit a bump and give it too much gas and wreck.

Probably just getting used to the clutch slip and throttle, it is different on all bikes, and I can imagine a 1000cc bike is a bit trickier to get to know. Mind that those regular vloggers ride their bikes on a daily basis and have done so for years :) Tbh I think the shifting - while not perfect - was more than fine for a first ride on a liter bike.

Sounds like me getting on a 1000 for the 1st time. After I totaled my 636 (the only accident I’ve been in the 11 years I’ve been riding) my buddy let me take his 2010 fireblade for a spin. I was scared to death. Been on liter bikes since😂

I just got my license and first bike, ninja 650. I haven't rode a bike in like 10 years and at that I had only rode a couple of times. So yeah I have that newbie feeling myself. I live in central Florida where there's a lot of traffic and people who can't drive for shit so it can be a little overwhelming at first but I'm trying to master this shit. I know the feeling. A few years back I bought a used Yamaha FJR1300 Sport touring bike, and I had not ridden in over forty years. They had to deliver it because I had not gotten my license yet. I took the Harley Davidson motorcycle course over three or four days, but it still did not prepare me what the power of that kind of engine could do. I really didn't get comfortable with it for at least six months riding a couple times a week. BUT, after I got used to it wow what a ride. Just to test my skills I took it up to 130 one day on the freeway to see if I could handle it. Yeah what a rush !!!

Nice bike fella, yeah that 1000cc takes a bit to use after a hiatus of years, but You are handling just fine from where is sit. Just a quick note, I started riding my K100krs 1987 vintage last spring and I had a ball and still do. I am 75 and havent riden a bike since 1963 in Austria. Even then it was a 126cc puch scooter... Fast forward, bought this beast and dropped it a few times twice on low side and three other times by getting too enthusiastic with the front brake on gravel. Attached the mirrors back on fairing and off we go. It goes well over 2,, and it wants to rip my arms from shoulders, but it a whole lot of fun for a old crazy geezer like mw. Ps, your comment on lousy back mirrors, I got same issue, just dont bother with the back view so much hahahha

Damn right buddy, I'm 70 and I ride a 02 R1 and it's my third liter bike and I'm glad to someone enjoying a sportbike like I do.. Aren't they awesome?. Power, handling and braking beyond most anything. I just want to twist the throttle until it hits the 180 mark but I have to remember that I'm just over a serious accident 19 months ago. So enough blabbering I'm gone for a ride,later. Ride safe buddy.

liter bikes are not for the fainted hearted even the r6 or the cbr600r are scary. Just 5% of the throttle is enough to learn stepwise to be the master of a liter bike. starting with a 600 is more scary than this one as liter bikes the powerband is on the high rpm side 7000> under that its just a 500cc.

The uk has a very intensive motorcycle progression system CBT-Theory-A1-A2-A with each A section having 2 modules. Specifically to stop this, very inexperienced riders going straight on the top most powerful motorcycles. Not being negative saying keep the speed right down (which I know you won’t haha) for a year to get used to it and not get over confident

I would not recommend some who does not have experience riding a bike to start on a 600 let a lone a 1000. Take a course and go from there. That is my opinion. People have started on 1000s or higher, it just depends on how smart you are.

its the actual bike not the engine size, just find a good tall person bike. i'm 6'3 and i fit fine on a ninja 250, but cbr250 is too short for me, dual sports are always tall, i fit on a 200cc dual sport very well, my everyday is a kawaski zr7, but i also ride a suzuki bandit 600 and a 1965 honda s90, i fit fine on all of them

Agreed, and even people of similar height fit differently on bikes. I am 6ft3 as well, and I fit fine on bikes that other 6ft people complain about. Best thing to do is go to dealers and simply try sitting on bikes, and potentially take some for test rides etc. It is free, and a must if you aren't sure what kind of bike size suits you :) And no, power wise a 600 won't be too small, and size is highly depending of what 600 bike you look at.
