I've said from the start, the best thing is to build a new stadium in Leazes park overlapping the Leazes stand so we do exactly what Spurs did. Once the stadium is finished, build a walkway through the site where SJP used to be (think Wembley way but in Newcastle) That way, all fans know that when walking up to the new stadium, they are walking right through the old site and walking directly across where the SJP pitch used to be. That keeps the nostalgia going.

Would love a fantastic new modern stadium like a Mercedes Benz stadium in Atlanta, but the big kicker where , if it was on leazers park I’d be 100% behind that but if it means moving it out the city center then no , but if it doesn’t make financial sense to extend due to costs over a new stadium then that’s what will have to be , no matter what I’d love a 80k stadium , with up to date facilities to take us into the future, with the possibility to have huge concerts and other events to generate even more money for the club , don’t forget we still need to build a club that’s sustainable even if the owners sell , we want to be up there making 700 million to a billion a year in revenue, not the 300 million we make now so yes the stadium would help but as a business they need to build the club as a whole,

@Ge0rdieDan_Ай бұрын
As much as I too would like to keep the lasses inclusive in all the clubs deals but giving SJP to them is simply not feesable. They don't bring in enough people to fill SJP and the cost to use the stadium would outweigh the revenue. If i am correct the council owns the land on SJP so if we were to relocate into say leazes park, we should take it all down and create a whole new entertainment complex and maybe real estate, hotels, clubs bars etc

Brad Millers statement was hard to work out one way or another really, i mean it's all excellent news to be fair. The thing is, is it going to be a new spanker or a high class revamp. I would go new stadium, not to say i would be disappointed if it was a revamp, logistically though the revamp is a bit of a mare, even though the top people would be involved and as Roobenstein said, the stack being built may give them more time to get plans in place. Regarding a new stadium, Leazes park must be a major consideration, either being built like the Tottenham stadium, literally latching on to their old ground or where Sir John Hall had his plans rebuffed on the 90's, and let's not forget it was only the friends of Leazes park who built up a massive protest against that with thousands of signatures, the city council of course vetoed the plans. But now it's a different scenario all together, opposition would be very minimal and the lead chair of the Leazes committee, a lady who is a "season ticket holder", literally has said the plans would get the go ahead, ok there is a victorian terrace and bandstand, grade two listed, but they can be moved. Urban Green who run the park would be up for any stadium being built as long as the maintenance of Leazes park was up kept, and maybe wardens and lit areas so ladies could walk through in safety, which the certainly cannot do now. We have a fabulous opportunity to build the best stadium in the country, the Saudis always say they want to be the best at everything don't they. Add its got to run to at least 80,000 seater imo, the corporate situation has to be addressed, we have to build resources, we may have to cater for many different events other than football. It's massively exciting. HWTL.

I have been going to SJP since 1965, IF they expand to, what had been said, by Eales, is a maximum 65,000/70,000 I guarantee we will outgrow it in less than 15 years &, by that time, any option of building within our City will have gone ! I , and I'm guessing most fans, would hate that ! We fans need to realise that, the current, lopsided situation is ridiculous, I felt that in the 90's when we went through renovations then , realise, we went down to 52, 300 from massive crowds that were able to enter when 3 sides were standing ! SJP was considered iconic when it was rammed full of mixed home & away fans! Of course that had to change , the Heysel first and Hillsborough next , (both involving Liverpool fans) ensured this , and rightly so! The Hall and Shepherd regime decided, after talks with the Freemen , who own all Town Moor land, including right from the small Moor land that holds cattle to the north of Grandstand Road right down to the border edge of SJP denoted by Shearer's bar outside wall (rented by United from Freemen & only administered by the city council) and City planners that we could, with agreement by fans , move up and build a brand new stadium on the current Moor south of Spital Tongues & west of Richardson Road. Plans were drawn up & printed in the Chronicle. Then came an objection from one resident of Spital Tongues (she walked her dog on that land ) she started a petition that gained so much traction , NUFC dropped the idea & bought Strawberry Place, Nexus land, on a leasehold basis and plans were drawn up again . Renovations were started, all 4 sides but only the largest stands, Milburn and Leazes were properly extended a) because of the planning objections on the East side , still current but on the Gallowgate side only temporarily till the money was available to extend across to Strawberry Place . Sadly , in 2008 , with 6 years of the renovation loan to pay, the Ashley regime bought Hall and Shepherd out and he, I believe, found he had bitten off more than he could chew ! The rest is history, 14 years later & hope was brought back but, even Amanda just saw SJP as it is now, I'm certain she knew nothing of the extension plans previously drawn up but she did know Ashley held land that was, originally, NUFC's ! We, as,I see it, have 2 choices, we do that extension that would straddle over the top of the road to Strawberry Place as well as, somehow doing a lesser extension of the East Stand or we move !
@zeezee35132 ай бұрын
NUFC might want to build on Leaves Park but to get permission would take years of objections etc and even then they might not get permission. I think if it is a new stadium it will be outside of the city centre.

All the traditionalists going on about St James’ won’t be here. It’s a great stadium, in a great location, but it’s looking dated.
