Seven goals and an iconic red card for Manchester United captain Roy Keane as we look back on a classic ‪@premierleague‬ fixture at St. James' Park.
Laurent Robert opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick before Ruud van Nistelrooy levelled. Goals from Rob Lee and Nikos Dabizas put the Magpies in command but again the visitors hit back through Ryan Giggs and Juan Sebastian Veron. United kept pushing and won the game courtesy of an own goal from Man Utd defender Wes Brown.

@user-bu1xr6cy3v Eric Cantona put fear. Roy Keane is just hot head. U do realize Shearer is GOAT he won in solid team Blackburn. Show me what any player in Premier League won without superteams ?? I respect more Jamie Vardy and shearer than Haaland today or any superteam high scorer. Vardy and Shearer titles are most valuable in ENG history.

I've been binge watching EPL highlights from the late 90s and early 2000s and I'm not sure if it's just the nostalgia, but the games definitely felt more raw and visceral back then. Dare I say the managers and players also seemed to have more character then too, whereas today it feels alot more sanitised with VAR and everything getting analysed to the nth degree.

This is the first NUFC match I ever watched on television. In the States, starting in 2000 or 2001, one could watch EPL matches on pay per view. I was curled-up in bed, trying to emotionally recover from my near death experience 4 days earlier in lower Manhattan. And for two glorious hours, I saw my favorite EPL team in-action on a screen. I chose to support NUFC in 1993 partly because they were not Man U, and I like the Geordie culture. I knew I choose the correct team when King Kev nearly won them the title. But this match was life changing for me. And what's not shown here is after the final whistle, Sir Bobby was taking in the achievement and maybe spaced out a bit, and for a split second he didn't notice Sir Alex standing in front of him with his hand out. Bobby snapped out of it, shook Alex' hand and trotted off, victorius.

@whiteflash72 I wouldn't have minded if you did instead of the usual other teams that do and I didn't say you never would because unless the world explodes every club have a chance to win something some day even if not in our lifetime's but to even still be saying at this moment in time that Newcastle haven't won anything in my lifetime isn't good enough for how big a club they are and how many trophies up for grabs per year it's really poor they've not won anything. Same with the likes of Everton, WestHam, Villa, Spurs have also gone way too long for a club like that but that's only 16 years which is nothing compared to Newcastle. At least you became sugardaddy so there's a better chance but I thought that last season and it was an awful season. I get that there are many very rich teams now so becoming sugardaddy isn't as rewarding as when Chelsea were bought for example. But they were having a terrible year when Newcastle played them in the LeagueCup quarter-finals and even then Newcastle bottled it and Newcastle didn't even qualify for Europe when they were in the ChampionsLeague which was also a disaster I'm surprised EddieHowe was kept on although the standards at Newcastle haven't been high so I guess actually it does make sense. No trophy, no CL knockout or even EuropaLeague entry to potentially go far in a competition and then a quite low PL funish therefore failure to qualfied for CL or EuropaLeague (or ConferenceLeague qualification not that it has any prestige and actually I just remembered WestHam won that due to the fact they only invented it a few years ago specifically for teams who never win anything) was too poor of a season to be kept on. But ManUtd prevented Newcastle from PL's 95/96, 96/97 (even CharityShield 1996), FAcup 98/99, PL 2002/03 to a certain extent, FAcup SF 2005, LeagueCup final 2023 so I meant ever from that period to now.

As a Man United fan, this result was galling. But I've never been slow in saying Shearer is my all time favourite Toon player, the guy was tough to play against which was bad enough for the opposition. But not enough credit goes to that clever underlying toughness to stand up to anyone like he did here against Keane. Make no mistake, if Keane threw a punch that landed, you'd have seen an almighty fight. Shearer wasn't afraid of any player.

I have no idea if he would have. Almost irrelevant. In that moment, Shearer didn't even flinch, so he obviously backed himself 👊🫡😂

Look closely - it was in fact Shearer that started it, which makes me like this even more.

I liked the bit when the commentator said", I don't know why, but Keane threw the ball at Shearer." I know why - because Keane's a headcase!

Just after 9/11 too,and Keane displaying despicable behaviour, with some of his team mates too.Full kudos to Shearer for not retaliating against their pushes on him.

I'm sure shearer is the only pro that could get under Keane's skin so easily. O yes and if football had special teams Robert would be my kicker. Higher success rate that Beckham and he had a longer range. He was amazing under Bobby (unhinged but amazing)
