I never said manufactured…. I was talking about the deposit locations on label. And it’s not a soda that’s unique to Maine. It’s originally made in Massachusetts but bottled in 7 different locations in the USA and sold across the entire world. Yes, it’s sold in Hawaii too.
@Joe_M-
@Joe_M- Жыл бұрын
My comment about Hawaii being on label was in reference to him saying the bottle was over 30 years old. That’s impossible because Hawaii didn’t even start their bottle deposit until 2002. So for it to read Hawaii as an accepted deposit, the bottle must be 2002 or newer. A little research shows that “nostalgia” label on the old bottle was produced from 2012-2016 , for a total of 44 months

The original Mother energy drink from around 2005-2007 had a coke thing in the body but lots of aromatic/herb notes along with it. Acquired taste but so easy and fun to drink. They changed Mother in around 2010 to a standard crappy energy drink and where I'm from Monster has taken over the market and our local brands are secondary scale. Currently at the point where most Monster stockists have at least 4 different flavours and it's just too much for our market. The original is alright, and Post 10 drinks them too, but there's more to the drinks world than one brand for us enthusiasts of a nice refreshing carbonated beverage.

If you had contacted the manufacturer and told them you wanted a glass bottle Moxie for a KZbin video, they probably would have sent you some for free. You’d be surprised if you’ve never tried, you can get a lot of free samples by contacting a company, sending an email or whatever, and telling them how much you enjoy their product. In my experience they’ll usually send you something or some coupons. I’m talking about snacks and drinks, you’re probably not getting a free refrigerator 😂

I worked at a bottling plant in the late 70's when glass bottles were reused. If you look at the bottle cap, some had the name of the bottling company and the town where it was made printed on it. Someone may have mentioned it but the version you get in cans and plastic bottles in Maine is produced by Coca-Cola. It uses corn syrup and is a more modernized version. The one you find in glass bottles is produced by a different company but is allegedly more authentic with cane sugar and what not. You can actually find this version all over the place. I think most cracker barrels sell it for example. I never seem to see it in grocery stores though.

@New England ..... these soda's are NOT going to change ... why? This is a formula and the products fans / customers expect the taste to NOT change. So it's actually NOT rare for a soda's ingredients to NOT change. You would need to go way back to the start to find different ingredients. Back then, they did not have the scientific advances for preservatives, etc like they do now.

Moxie actually has lower caffeine than Coca Cola. The biggest difference is that Moxie is flavored with gentian root extract which gives it a distinctive bitterness vs any kind of cola. Gentian root is used in things like Angostura bitters and other kinds of liqueurs, as well as lots of herbal medicines. The flavor of Moxie is like Coca Cola but with a kind of mellow yet bittery flavor. I like it personally, but it's kind of an "acquired" taste.

I tried Moxie for the first time a few years ago and the place I got it from is a semi-rural part of Pennsylvania about an hour northwest of Philly. I live closer to the border with New Jersey and have never seen it in my neck of the woods. At any rate, I was kind of surprised at the taste... kind of a metallic bitterness I'd say.

It probably was a little store called Dietrich’s of of 78 in Kutztown. I grew up in Connecticut but tried Moxie for the first time there.

Here's the deal with plastic bottles and screw caps... They used to be made of aluminum with a polyethylene liner (seal). Later, manufacturers moved on to making the caps out of plastic; usually polypropylene, but still with a polyethylene liner. Most modern linerless caps are just entirely polyethylene to begin with, so a separate liner isn't needed. No plastic container and lid is perfect, and the current designs are no better or worse than those of the past. The thing that most commonly makes newer sodas go bad is artificial sweeteners, so you commonly see it happen with diet sodas and flavored waters. They spoil quickly; just look at the difference in expiration dates on diet vs regular sodas of the same type/variety. No matter how you store them, sweeteners like aspartame are only stable for a short time before they break down. They aren't harmful, but they make stuff taste gross.

That would be funny if the toilet had skid marks going down inside it.
