I agree! Of course, you have to have good studio tech to pull out bass, play around with the sound etc. (I'm no expert), but there's pretty much no autotune. I mean, they might smooth out any pitchy vocals, but since a big part of what they pride themselves on is being able to replicate their performances, I highly doubt they make any major changes.

The video was shot in a closet in the apartment Avi & Kevin were sharing, and the audio was recorded in their kitchen. Since the record contract they'd won in The Sing Off was dropped by the label, they took it upon themselves to build a base on KZbin.Obviously it worked. @tfpp14 жыл бұрын
5:49 - I can answer that question for you: if you look at Avi (bearded guy) closely, he's making those sounds WHILE singing. If you try it, you can do it too. It's hella difficult for sure, but you can make that sound while phonating, is my point. And Kevin (black beatboxer), is also doing something similar, so the combination sounds really cool.

This was shot and recorded ultra-cheaply in one of their apartments, at a time when they really needed to make an impact in order to stay commercially viable. It worked! It won them a Grammy. The sound is probably more processed than a lot of their recordings, to give that futuristic vibe to the voices. But there's nothing fake about it musically -- they can perform it live, and have, often. There's a famous phone-video of them performing it after hours in a small meeting room, with no mics around, and it's all there.
@CrimFerret4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's processed. They can and have sung this live.
@DelGuy034 жыл бұрын
@@CrimFerret Yes, i just said that. I know that. Any studio processing is in the acoustic, is minimally used, and goes along with the futuristic look. But they can always perform their stuff live.
@changelingthing4234 жыл бұрын
@@CrimFerret processing doesn't just mean 'auto-tuned to compensate for lack of ability', it can also be things like adding reverb so vocals sound like they were recorded in a space with specific acoustic qualities, or adding a 'synthetic' quality to vocals to match a song's aesthetic as was done here. It can even mean judicious use of auto-tune to get a specific pop feel in a song. None of these things would mean that the singer wouldn't be able to do the song live.

It is almost impossible to believe that all those sounds are from their voices . But. just for 'knowledge base', go back 10 years and watch their ten appearances on Sing Off, season 3, which of course they won. You'll be astounded at what they could do even then, when Kirstin, Scott and Mitch were in high-school together, and picked up with Kevin and Avi (since gone, peacefully, and replaced by Matt) for that competition. Astounding, even then !

Never a mediocre from them. No matter where you start, they just seem to get better. There is a video of them doing this spur of the moment and it’s just as good. Minus the cool blue eyes and such. Hard to believe $400 in an apt closet and kitchen put their first of 3 Grammys in their hands with this. I love your energy. Im not sure I’ve seen a reactor get so into this video. Didn’t even mind the frequent stops. Seen it a million times so to see that impulsive “wait, I gotta …” makes my heart happy. Glad you found them. This has been a year ago so I’m sure you’re well versed by now. If you haven’t checked out their beginnings or their spin-offs look them up. The Sing Off season 3, they won it. Mitch and Scott have superfruit. It’s full of laughs, less formal as you can really see their personalities pop thru. Avi is now on his own and if you thought his bass was low here, gotta do some if his. Kevin has solo work too a lot with him on cello and beat boxing, at the same time. Nothing he can’t do. More recently Mitch is getting into his darker side with Messer. Im betting you’d like his stuff too. Hope you’re enjoying your journey thru the PTX rabbit hole of better than perfection.

So glad you did this one. Great reaction. Watch their Aha from Japan to hear Avi doing super low bass 😊

My faves, besides this one, are their first original song called "Love Again" which is futuristic dance like this video...and the other one is "Mary Did You Know?"

One of my favourites from PTX! I remember being shown this in music class and all of us were mind blown.
