reta It can be argued. Same with Mario. They thought going from left to right will be boring and they were right. Then Mario made a jump into 3D and stuff changed. Same can be done with punch, imagine WALKING around the ring, hitting your foes from the back and what not. Really all the punch out games have been 2d and not 3D. Plus, punch out has a formula, from the top their games seem to be the same, but just like Mario and Zelda it’s their enemies that makes each game different

Honestly if it got more love it would probably get a bigger development team assigned to it which would be less cohesive and we wouldn't get beautiful and clever gems of animation like this game. It takes a small team with a lot of love for the series and an un-pressured supervisor to make a game like this

Went from being completely forgettable in the original to one of the funniest characters in the game. With his psychotic mentality, his creepy grin after assaulting the ref, his hilarious taunts when knocked down, and of course, his "stanky leg" knockout pose, they went above and beyond with him. ME SISTER HITS HARDER THAN YOU BOYO! *gets hit by debris thrown by the crowd then goes into a frenzy* That never gets old.

I never played Punch Out, but I’ve been watching videos of it recently. I watched a fight of Aran Ryan where he tried to hit you after he already got knocked down. The funny thing is, seeing how he was cocky and aggressive, I was thinking “He’s gonna pull some cheap move, isn’t he” before he even did it. Then I saw him swing a glove on a rope and I CALLED it! I gotta give credit, they really nailed the “Angry Irishman looking for a fight” stereotype with Aran.

SuperYoshiFan10090 Studios 3: these are not reasons to hate the console, if you’ll hate the console then hate it for its games or the way it functions or whether it can play games smoothly or not. The switch does all of these things. It’s a bummer that the virtual console isn’t in it but still... the console is the best Nintendo console. Not only that but the online is harmless. It’s only 20$ and gives you some retro games on the go. And don’t say “but they don’t have detected servers so the online sucks” cuz they never had any severs back when it was free and games still payed smoothly. You’re only paying 20$ not even half of play station’s price

Even if they somehow got you a game like god of war you still payed 60$! Might as well buy the game cuz it’s 60$ You saying the switch isn’t powerful isn’t anything at all, as long as it plays it’s own games like Zelda and doom smoothly then it’s powerful

Another thing I really love about this game is the sound design and effects. They not only managed to convey personality through gameplay, appearance, and animation, but also with the sound. Hearing pop fizz and cans opening when Soda Popinski winds up? Hearing a tree fall when Bear Hugger goes down? Hearing Train noises during Sandman's Dreamland Express? They even gave Glass Joe sound effects from the NES Punch-Out since he's the first fighter, and therefore one of the most memorable.

I was thinking about this franchise lately, getting a new entry and stuff, but then it crossed my mind, how do you improve on this one game ? The game is pretty much flawless on what it sets out to do, and now, nearly a decade later, the game is still being praised; actually, even more so than it used to. Everything was done right and it aged incredibly. I think a re release with maybe some extra content is the way to go.

The only two minor complaints I have about Punch-Out for the Wii are: 1. No Classic Controller support (I hate having to point and click at menus) 2. The two-player mode is weak. It's not as smooth or intuitive as the normal game. Otherwise, it's pretty much PERFECT. I still enjoy playing it and my daughter (age 9) loves it too.

Something I love is how the opponents react to the star punch. In contender mode when you wind up they're confused because they don't know what your doing. In title defense mode, however, when you wind up they have a look of terror. They clearly now know what your doing and remember what happened the last time you did this. They even attempt to (if not actually) dodge it, which makes sense if you used a star punch on them before. (And alot of you probably have.) It adds so much realism and you can clearly see that they remember when you last did it by looking at them. Some of them even scream right before you punch but after you start winding up. (Example: glass Joe.)

I'd really love to see a segment on how to make idle animations actually seem natural and yet still also be so full of character. We can all think of those that are a bit... off, either the idle animation is too fast, the character holds too still, their breathing is off if they breath at all. Then there are those that surprise and delight with how much detail and thought was put into it (think Rick from Kirby Star Allies, Mario in Super Mario Odyssey, etc.). I mean, sometimes animations don't even need to be that impressive, like the monologues of characters in Borderlands 2 when the player stands still for too long. Or including a slew of optional emotes for MMORPGS so that you can choose how expressive you want to be while waiting for an event to start. Regardless, I think there's a lot their that you could unpack.

So many characters in this game have so much personality but my favorite might b the opponent w/ the least amt, that being Mr. Sandman. He’s not a jokey caricature, there’s not much to his personality & his animations aren’t as showy as everyone else’s. What I love abt him is that he’s a force of nature and the animation conveys this perfectly. His intro in contender mode & Mr. Sandman’s theme itself shows that Mac is going into the biggest fight of his life and that fight is against the unstoppable force AND the immovable object. I also love how his animated intro shows that Sandman worked his way to the top w/o being gimmicky. Sheer, raw, intimidating power. And if Mac isn’t careful, it’s good night for him. What’s more, Mr. Sandman seems like a boxer that would actually exist, like your legendary icons of boxing such as Muhammad Ali or Sugar Ray Robinson. I also love his name, it gives him a sort of sports entertainment wrestler-like appeal what w/ like when Mac gets knocked down and is trying to get up & Sandman taunts him by faking being asleep and many of his lines in title defense This has become less abt the animation & more abt certain aspects of Mr. Sandman but I just think he’s super cool and the game’s animations RLY help sell the character and set him apart from everyone Mac fought before in the game leading up to him.

I would really love a bit of a deep dive into how animations are blended when transitioning from one to the next. It's fascinating to me that you can have a "walk" animation that slowly transitions into the run animation, and how a jump animation can be stitched into a "landing" animation.

@MrMarinus18 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know. I think if the animation was ugly or forgettable people wouldn't do that. If you are blindfolded it's because you know them so well that with just the sound you can see the entire thing happening in your head. Those people have memorized every single frame of animation and can see them perfectly in their head.

I sometimes just rewatch this video to get a much needed injection of positivity. You sell the greatness of this so well, that it just makes the video entertaining on it's own, but there is also a lot of knowledge oozing from this piece.

Thanks so much for sharing your insight! I love how you articulate what makes some animations so much more satisfying than others. I would love to see you tackle the unique artwork & animation in the Borderlands series. I'm not really sure why I'm so drawn to it, but there is probably some super interesting logic (or perhaps voodoo) behind it that I'm unaware of!

I am not really a fan of the punchout franchise as a whole for playing, but it is always fun to watch someone else play it and figure out all the strategies. This was a really fun and interesting video to watch, I'm glad you reminded me about this new channel in the Katamari videos because I had forgotten to subscribe. Have a good day.

New Frame Plus, if you haven't already, I bet Splatoon would be amazing for animation analysis! The characters have so much personality, the tentacles move realistically, and the characters seem really loose-jointed, excited, and competitive at the same time, regardless of their action! (Except the jump...) I'd suggest looking at Splatoon 2 because not only are Pearl and Marina's animations spectacular, but there are so many character customizations, like more tentacles and Octolings, which may make it better to analyze than OG. Up to you though!

I think it's interesting how, if you throw a punch your opponent blocks, you can actually see Little Mac wiggle his hand a bit as if absorbing the unpleasant blow. Also if he's throwing out a high punch when the opponent is dodged away, he flails a little bit to regain his balance. Stuff like that is really pleasing if you pay close attention to it.
