Agreed. DV is so insidious; might start out with aggressive gestures/menacing movements and shouting, then an "accidental" elbow or push. Berating behaviors such as requesting a certain home-cooked meal, then claiming after one bite that it's inedible. Gifting something then taking it back. such as ripping a ring off my finger or stealing my bike out of my garage. I'm lucky that somehow my logical brain was shouting Get Out, but if you're at an exotic location far away from the safety of your own place it would absolutely be dangerous. I didn't realize people like this exist until I had to face the truth. My deepest condolences to her loved ones and thank you for allowing this to be shared .

@@moe9587These are all assumptions - it’s extremely common for abusers to wait until they’ve “trapped” their victim before they start being abusive, usually through marriage, apartment rentals together, buying a home, or children. This was two trapping scenarios - a marriage and being in a strange country. It’s very possible he abused her before and she was manipulated into thinking it wasn’t that bad, or this came out of nowhere. I’m leaning towards the latter simply because he ended up killing her so quickly - almost feel like he believed beating people up was like the movies and she’d be fine, and then panicked when he realized that wasn’t the case.

@@neffyg35I live in Fiji too. Never been or visited a prison but hear crazy stories. Human rights advocacy is huge here, so prisoners are treated with some dignity. They are put to hard physical labour digging whatever mountain needs a makeover far away from any town or village while religious reformation and counselling are expected. Anything after dark among the prisoners is about the same as any prison out there. It's not as comfortable as one would expect at Western standard but basic facilities are provided. So, his life sentence in prison here will be far from easy comfortable. Hope that helps.
