No offense meant, PJ. Not particularly a fan of yours... But you did "bring the hammer down on the nail" on a couple of valid points in the second half of your presentation. Hooray for that. If it's possible... here's one suggestion to consider. As Singapore matures as a nation, how about setting aside a special day every year to observe the need for "truth" and "reconciliation", and to commemorate it the way it's done in some other more advanced countries in the world.

Eh....not quite right PJ. The government don't work for us. We elected them to govern us. They were given the mandate to form the government after election. So, if they do right, good for us all. Do wrong, bad for us all. If middle line, half happy, half sad. That's one man one vote system.

One more thing, PJ... You are a historian, right? So, perhaps, you might be familiar with the story of Chia Thye Poh in Singapore's post-colonial history. Chia, I believe, is still very much alive today. His story needs "proper closure" one way or another. Remember my earlier suggestion about setting aside a special day in Singapore each year to observe and deal with "truth" and "reconciliation". It would be nice if Chia's case could be one of the first to be dealt with in the suggested observation. And I can't think of anyone better qualified than you to initiate it. Wanna give it a try? Ha, ha... you might still win me over to be your fan.

This would be a good start. Then, as a historian and using your professional judgement, PJ; you can think of others. At the top of my head were those imprisoned under "Operation Spectrum" in 1987.

Yo PJ please refrain from expressing opinions that could be construed as accusations against the garmen for the sake of sustainability in your youtube channel. However, do continue to engage in producing content that subtly addresses and expose the often-muted controversies...... these are precious information and knowledge to awaken us all and to see the almighty and powerful's hidden intents of re-educating us with the "See no evil, hear no evil, do no evil" mindset.

Back in 2015, Stephen Sackur, the HARDtalk maestro himself, sat across from Mr. Tharman, who, at the time, was Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister, but little did Sackur know, Tharman was basically auditioning for future Singaporean presidency. Sackur asked him the million-dollar question: “How did Singapore go from fishing village to an economic superpower in just one generation, while still being so authoritarian?” And Tharman, cool as a cucumber, was like, “Well Stephen, Singapore’s a bit like your Wi-Fi-it’s constantly evolving, updating policies faster than you can say ‘lag’! Nothing’s set in stone here, mate. If something’s not working, we’ll just tweak it until it does. Policies aren’t written in blood, they’re written in pencil with a big eraser.” So when PJ popped up and said, “Hey, Singapore’s always changing its policies,” Tharman probably just chuckled and said, “Yeah, and? What’s wrong with that? Evolution’s the name of the game, PJ!” Boom. Mic drop. Singapore-style. 0:01
@thionga8774Ай бұрын
Right or wrong, being "authoritarian" was the way to go... to "fast-track" the material progress and achievements of Singapore. It's uniquely Singaporean. Few "authoritarian" countries in the world succeeded the way that Singapore did. So, what were the other "ingredients" that led to Singapore's success?
@pgobserver254Ай бұрын
@@thionga8774 Ah, the “secret sauce” of Singapore’s success! It’s not just being “authoritarian-lite,” like a government with training wheels. Nope, Singapore’s success recipe has a lot more ingredients. First, take one giant spoonful of kiasu-the national fear of losing or being left behind. Mix that with a pinch of “no chewing gum” policy because hey, no distractions! Then, add a generous serving of multi-cultural stew, which is always spicy and interesting. Next, throw in some ultra-efficient public services-because if you’ve ever waited for a Singaporean bus, you know they run like Swiss clocks. Oh, and don’t forget the obsession with education-every Singaporean kid basically has a PhD by the time they’re five. Lastly, top it all off with just the right amount of fine-you know, those infamous fines for littering, jaywalking, or sneezing too loud. Keep everyone in check, sprinkle in some pragmatic leadership, and voila-you’ve got the perfect Singaporean success soufflé. Serve hot and enjoy responsibly! 😎

Is this guy paid by the western powers to host such programs.. this island is so much better of than most countries in the world, include the western ones, which is on the downhill. Just look at the debates between Trump and Harris, it looks so stupid that voters can decide based on a televised debate. So is this fellow pitching for western style politics. Singaporeans got to be extremely careful, while u will not get the best systems, but you are one of the most fortunate to be run by the existing party. No short of examples in this region and the world. This guys should also do a similar one on other countries and I'm interested to see his perspectives. Else, he is just another KZbinr seeking for more subscribers.
