One other thought. While I really liked the film, my son and I discussed that it felt like it was darker than the others. Not as gory as Temple of Doom, but more callous to some of the deaths. Unlike Mola Rom, who, while brutal, killed for his religion or Belloq who seemed, at least later in the film, reluctant to kill, Vollmer and especially Weber killed for convenience. And while Marion looked away from the mechanic's fate at the plane and you had something similar by the big guard in Temple of Doom where Indy even tried to save him from being crushed, there was no pity from Teddy for drowning Hauke. It just felt like this film had a little less of our better angels. Still really enjoyed it. Just a thought.

I was a snare drummer in a Bag Pipe Band. That tune is called "Massed Bands." Everyone learns it so when necessary for multiple Pipe Bands all playing together, we all know it, no matter what other songs we might play by ourselves and in competitions. The Spear of Longinus is also the starting point for Barry Sadler's "Casca: The Eternal Mercenary" books. The main character is Casca Rufio Longinus, and he was the Roman legionnaire who lanced Christ in his side on Golgotha. Christ then says to him "Soldier, you are content with what you are. Then that you shall remain, until we meet again.", thus damning Casca to walk the Earth until the Second Coming. They were a great series of books.

To complete the closed loop, the movie shouldn't have shown the in-progress pieces of the dial in Archimedes's workshop but rather just a blueprint or something, so that the dial could be a paradox, same goes with the watch, the movie should've shown Voller taking it from Archimedes's body in the tomb, only to be taken by Archimedes moments later after the plane crashed.
@bigmagictent Жыл бұрын
This is a “it always happened” plot and not a paradox plot.

not too fond of them killing mutt, after rewatching crystal skull i really liked him and was kinda hoping we were gonna see him as like a secret partner for indy, but i think my obsession with time travel stories overpowered my dislike for that lmao

YEah alot of people are saying it's cause Shia is problematic but I doubt that entirely. I think they were just feeling that a female adventurer counterpart would sell better and that having lost his son would drive the plot better than weaving him in. I adore Shia though

The writers of the film "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" are almost literally telling the audience "hey, there's a code in here". They do that by including a Polybius Square cipher as a plot element. So are there actual codes elsewhere in the film? Yes, Apollo 11 is code for A11 or 111 -- there are 111 days in the year remaining after Septmeber 11. Jones rides a "horse" (29) through the subway from 59th Street to 51st Street. The meaning is uncertain but number 51 comes up in another instance as the alphabetic ordinal cipher of the name "Shaw". The playing card trick demonstrated by Helena "Wombat" Shaw on the boat reveals card number 7 twice, or code 77. "Wombat" is 88 in reverse cipher, that's a number associated with time travel in other films. On the island Sicily there is a car with license plate "SR 14 19 81", which appears to be the date 10/14/1981. There are many more numeric codes in this film, I can't wait for it to be released to DVD that I can pause the action and pin down those codes. By intuition I would say that there is an emphasis on the year '29 in this film. It is more apparent in the character names "Baz" and "Ted" which both have the exact same values in the four common alphabetic ciphers, starting with value 29 in ordinal cipher, as well as the value 52 in reverse cipher. Fifty two is the number of weeks in a year.

Saying there's a bunch of code, but then none of it actually means anything is dumb. You went to a lot of effort pulling random phrases to obtain a random number only to have more numbers. A code without any message isn't a code.

Did anyone else notice the license plate on the van when Indy was taken? It think it was SR13 1981 and 1981 was the year Raiders of the Lost Ark came out. I cant figure out (yet) the SR13. Anyone?

Such a great ending to Indy's saga. My only quibble is that he's wanted for murder and is never resolved at the end. Surely the first place the police would stake out would be his flat? But apart from that, brilliant, fun, action packed and way better than Indy 4!!
