I love that they included the young Elphaba scenes as you can see the impact that Dolcibear had on Elphaba & why Elphaba stands for the Animals.

I still think Kristen owns popular and Idina owns defying gravity, but Cynthia and Ariana killed the ballroom scene. That was absolutely amazing. Also, Fiyero did an amazing change in just a couple of minutes, but you could see the change come over him and why he would therefore help Alphaba with the lion cub afterwards. The whole thing was truly masterful. The going to Oz scene was masterful also. The set was unbelievable, the costumes were out of this world, and the acting was really fine. I agree that there were too many breaks in defying gravity, though. All in all, I was very entertained.

My younger brother who passed away in his 20s was a HUGE Wicked fan. He used to sing Popular ALL THE TIME. A few years after he passed, my ex took me to see Wicked on Broadway and I cried during Popular experiencing what my brother loved so much and then I was carried away by Gravity (pun interned lol) and I was a puddle by the end (pun also intended lmao). Years later my oldest daughter saw it and this weekend the whole family watched the movie the theater and it gave me everything I needed from it and yes, they DEFINITELY landed Gravity and I jumped up and cheered!

One thing missed out in the mini play scene with Kristen and Idena is there's a small point where Kristen's globe wand stops working...and she keeps hitting it to get it to work again. This is probably a small nod to her doing the "ballgown" magic just before Popular in her original run on stage.

The first time I saw the show, I was in New York with my marching band to march in the Macy's Parade (first Michigan marching band to do so) and I was enthralled with Wicked. By the end of Defying Gravity, I knew I wanted to be on stage, and it truly changed my entire life. This movie was the perfect love letter to the Broadway show, The Wizard of Oz, and Gregory Maguire's book. I also didn't sing, but I started crying within 2 seconds of hearing the overture in the theater! I'll be a wreck when Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande sing For Good!

It is now my favorite movie of all times. As a fan of the musical, I didn't expect to love this as much as I do. I watched the original cast on Broadway, and what they've done here is remarkable. Ariana gave every bit of Kristin C. without being a copy cat, and Cynthia E. grounded the whole movie and absolutely owned it. I laughed, I cried, I was sad and happy. By the end, I was left breathless. Love love love.

"And then they expect us to just, get out of the theater like nothing happened." SO REAL!! I ended up very slowly getting myself together after the movie ended, I stayed all the way to the absolute end of the credits just so I could mentally collect myself. I sat in my car for another five minutes afterward because I was like, I can't cry anymore, I have to drive! lol. This video is such an obvious labor of love and it was a delight to watch. I learned about Wicked in 2007 when I and my HS marching band did a show using No One Mourns, Popular, Defying Gravity. I then learned that it was a Broadway play, so I bought the CD and fell in love and then also bought the book, In 2017 I FINALLY got to go to NYC and see the Broadway show and I loved it. 6 months later I brought my father to NYC to see it (My dad died 4 years later and this was the last thing we did together). and 6 months after that I brought my mother who is a MASSIVE Wiz of Oz fan, to see the show and bought her Front row center stage tickets to the show. To me Wicked is my favorite piece of media. When I first went I fond the Living Cogs hoodie for sale and I had worn it daily from the day that I bought it at the Gershwin till about 3 months ago, It has since been thinned out and full of holes in the elbows and pockets. I was able to replace it with a brand new exact copy of the Living Cogs and I will continue to wear this daily until it matches my original. 10/10 movie, best movie I have seen all year. Excited for part 2.

My first time seeing Wicked was the original Chicago cast in the spring of 2005. Stephanie J Block, Kendra Kassebaum, Carol Kane, Libby from Sabrina the teenage witch, even a young Adam Lambert in the ensemble. It was wild. This movie was such an incredible experience. It was my partner’s first time seeing anything Wicked and he absolutely loved it. We’ve now seen it twice and plan to go again.

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it, but the 4 professors on the OG sign with the Hogwartsesque colors coordinate with the map! Each region has a typical color associated with it- quadling aka south is red, winkie is yellow, munchkinland is blue, and gilkinland is purple. In One Short Day, there’s a brief moment when you can see signs for each region with their associated colors. I don’t know if that was just a stylist choice or not but it’s an interesting detail imo!

4:13 the instrumental doesn’t actually include the full phrase ‘ding dong the witch is dead’ it only plays ‘dong dong the witch is’ insinuating that Elphaba survived

Hmmm, that's not Stephanie J. Block, and anyway SJB was an early Elphaba not a Nessa. I don't think it's Michelle Federer, the original Nessa, either, but I could be wrong.

48:29 Another fun detail about Jeff Goldbloom’s closeup magic. He tried to sneak in an extra magic trick involving a green rope in the same scene as the coin trick. It was ultimately cut from the film, but if you look closely at Elphaba’s hand in one scene you can still see she’s clutching that green rope.

I’ve been in love with wicked since it came out. I saw it for the first time in 2007 in London and then two more times in LA at the Pantages. This got me through my high school years. I’ve been able to meet Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth and tell them how much it meant to me, their cast recording got me through so many hard times. And I was literally crying as a baby watching the movie because it brought back so many memories and Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo did an amazing job.

This movie made me sob. The book and the musical has been my companion since childhood. The only thing I know how to play on piano is Over the Rainbow taught by my dad when i was young before he left. Seeing the movie come to fruition hit really deep. I cried more than watching the musical. I was fortunate to have Jessica Vosk as my Elphaba, but Cynthia did not disappoint ❤

At EXACTLY 1:00 in to 'No One Mourns the Wicked' on the movie soundtrack you can hear trumpets blare the tune of "Ding dong the witch is" with the "is" being held out and no "dead," probably because it would have been a copyright issue to go all the way. But that is so totally what Schwartz was talking about, imo.
