i think people are not familiar with the culture. It's not about kissing the hand at all. As Muslims, we prefer doing handshakes with right hand, the kid gave his left hand for the handshake. Any fatherly figure would correct their child and so did the president. It's rather more appreciable that he's educating a young child in a fatherly manner. Again, if You're not familiar with the culture, you would not get the picture.

In some countries it is tradition that children bless older people with touching the back of the hand against the forehead of the young person's head. It is also tradition to give a little slap on the side of the cheek to remind the child they're forgetting something important. President Erdoğan was helping the excited boy remember his responsibility. I do not think it's right for us as foreigners to place judgment on other countries' traditions. As a Canadian I'm aware of this tradition because it is very important in the Philippines that young people bless the older people in this manner in formal settings. The child knows what to do when they get their ear pinched, or cheek slapped.
