I wonder if Takara Tomy is exploring the possibility of a kind of alternative dimension "masterpiece" line that literally retools the original toy designs with modern construction and features. If you think about it, the original MP Megatron was kind of like that.

There’s actually two versions of this, they G1 toy accurate version with the trailer; and the cartoon style version with no trailer, blue eyes/windows, and one autobot symbol on the left shoulder. As far as I know, this has no parts you can swap out.

The franchise has been through so much. It's incredible to think it's older than half of it's fanbase. Why does it feel like it's reaching it's peak?

I can add my two cents on that last thought you had- I’m collecting TF for 20+ years, and I live in Tokyo since 2009. In Japan for a few years now maybe 5 or close to that, TF toys & merch have disappeared fully from the retail at some of the top mass retailers of toys in Japan: Bic Camera, Yodobashi Camera, and even some ToysRus stores I’ve seen in the last couple years don’t carry anything TF. Before that since the early 2000’s, TF releases were sold in every toy store big & small. In Japan the franchise has already been going through a demographic switch to the collector market exclusively, for these last years. At the same time, the vintage toy shops (thrift stores) here started fully drying out of TF goods, or simply stopped selling them, as the online market & auctions in Japan (specially vintage) have reached prices never seen before here, now sometimes surpassing US market value. A far cry from my first visits in 2003~06 when vintage items were easily found dirt cheap in specialty vintage toy shops and random thrift stores. Is what’s happening with TF in Japan a possible sign of things to come for the franchise worldwide? I can’t tell yet

I think the stickers on Optimus himself are all painted. On the cartoon version you can see molded details on the knees and toes.

Hey I know you were busy and you got distracted so you didn’t see much information about this 40th anniversary Optimus prime figure, but be careful do not get the mixed up. There’s two versions C-01 and C-02 C-01 is the full set truck and trailer and G1 toy colors C-02 is just the truck in G1 cartoon color so do not get them confused.

I *NEED* an '84 to '85 line of this G1 line. I'm cool if they are want to jump around from '86 to '90 as well. I'm so all in on both an accurate toyline and anime line. I'm hyped that this needs to be a complete line, and I'd just want it to be an accurate year to year release line, none of Hasbro's stupid shenanigans. New, slightly larger, upgraded molds, with more and more advanced articulation to come over time, that's worth the $$$. But again, I like that this is a once in a lifetime grail upgrade Optimus, but really hyped if it has even half the G1 line. Guntron, don't care about the drama mommas crying, I need a ML toon accurate guntron and I'll take him as an oversea sale in robot mode with an additional inner sleeve for accurate gunmode.

Sorry but it’s not worth a penny over $100, much less $150. KO’s go for $50 or less and while I understand that this is not a KO but a redesign of the original, at the end of the day I have to ask if the additional features and articulation are worth the extra $50 to $100 over a KO for those dynamic poses and the answer is no. Now… give me a G1 megatron with same gun mode but vastly improved robot and I am all in!
