I love this story. I'm almost 66 years old but my father did construction all his life and I've learned just like a woman has a favorite pot, so has a man with his tools.

I have a favorite pot and a favorite tool, both used in my kitchen. The tool? A pair of loose jaw pliers with a great grip. The most used tool in my kitchen. Grab the edge of stubborn seals and pull hard! In the garage, my favorite tool is a table saw. Or is it the electric drill, or maybe the sander?

I love this. I’m currently restoring my great grandfathers machinist and other various tools, as well as all my grandfathers made in U.S.A tools. Most recently did some Stillson pipe wrenches and a marathon electric motor/bench grinder, both over 100 years old.

Used to be a great old hardware store in Schenectady, NY called Wallace Armer. They had stuff from the beginning of the last century as new old stock (NOS). There’s a lot of character in these kinds of places for those of us that enjoy that sort of thing. I’m putting Liberty Tools on my Maine destinations list!

It didn't surprise me to see the guy from Seattle in this magnificent store. We [Seattleites] used to have a store just like the Liberty Tool Co. It was called Hardwick's Hardware, but, like many businesses in Seattle, it closed it's doors permanently, because of crime and the city council's anti-business attitude. Great store, i hope it lasts forever !

I miss Hardwicks's. I first went there about 1970 and remained a costumer until Covid. About the time I was ready to be in public places again they closed and moved to Idaho.

Right on. I’m from Liberty, Mississippi and from a family with many carpenters, Metal workers etc. My dad owned a fab shop back in the day building ASME code pressure vessels. I always heard there’s a Liberty in every state. I believe it ! 😎

Love to get there, I'm across the world in New Zealand. We used to have a similar place in the small city I live in. When I taught woodworking/metalworking to students I would use the school budget to buy the so much better older tools for the classroom.

I am nearing 60 and have tools from my great-grandfather, both of my grandfathers and father. My great grandfather was born in 1891, was very poor, had no sons but instead had three daughters. His tools that he took great care of went to my father. When my father passed they came to me. My grandfather was a mechanic and I inherited many of his tools. There is nothing like the feel of an old tool. The quality, the wear on the handles from decades of use etc. I display some select tools from each of the four great men in my garage. the display has started many a conversation. Hopefully my son will cherish those tools as I have, I would love to see this store... Show me a tool made today that will last even 20 years with regular use......will not happen.

Just before this came up in the feed, I got the Harbor Freight Tuesday tool ad separately on my phone. It's the less-than-basic $25 set and looking at the pic of it after seeing this story, the phrase "gateway drug" came to mind.

Cool store, as a journeyman carpenter/ fine woodworker very few tools are made in America anymore most are low quality steel that comes from china, and they are useless. Fortunately I have a bunch of my grandfather’s old tools he was a carpenter too. Not a single youngster member of my family what’s anything to do with the trades. Kinda sad

I have a pneumatic hand held Ingersoll-Rand tool. Has three, what looks like clevis-type pins, about 3/8 or more round in diameter. When the air supply is on, they randomly work up and down. I have tried to research it. Cannot find a thing. Might be a chipping hammer but, so far, it remains the mystery tool.

About all I use here in the smithy is old tools. Modern stuff has its place, but old tools have the soul that you'll never get with plastic and whatnot. Quiet, sturdy, reliable, intuitive, and with a thousand stories of craftsmen past. Old tools are the best tools.
