His clemency for the death-row inmates was a “deeply personal” belief…really…because he has long claimed that, despite calling himself Catholic, he believes in supporting abortion since he is there as President to support the will of the people. How can you commute a sentence for people who have yet to be investigated, indicted, tried, convicted and sentenced? If none of that has happened,why commute? Unless he KNOWS of their crimes already? This better get settled by the supremes or else blanket pardons will become the norm for government malfeasance.

Your comment confuses me. Commuting a sentence is not the same thing as a pardon, such as he gave Hunter. A commutation of sentence reduces a sentence to a lesser time period, it doesn't let the criminal get off without punishment or prosecution, like he gave his son. Anyone on death row has, by definition, been tried and sentenced. Some or many of these criminals are surely going through the appeals process, which generally means going through multiple trials.

Back in 1992, Democrats and Republicans competed for who was tougher on crime. Biden, then senator from Delaware, responded to critics of the proposed crime bill who claimed it was too weak. He bragged that his proposed crime legislation vastly expanded crimes that could be eligible for the federal death penalty. "It provides 53 death- penalty offenses. Weak as can be, you know?" he said. "We do everything but hang people for jaywalking in this bill." From an article on Mother Jones. Who is ecstatic that he has evolved. Except he promised to work on a federal ban on executions and has done nothing except commute these people's sentences. A real change of heart or just political expediency as his party has moved further left?
