Why can't people be nice about this very artistic and creative woman? Her heart is in the right place and she is very passionate about the things that she believes in. She does not conform and is one of the most innovative fashion designers. She clearly is having problems with gathering her thoughts and articulating herself during the course of this live interview. She lives and breathes Art, beauty and fashion as well as other political issues. But she is clearly struggling with providing an answer to the question with intellectual grasp and depth. She is a creative genius and let her art speak for itself! I know many creative people like her and just accept her as she is. That's just her. She is a very talented and vulnerable lady. I used to adore her clothes. I can not express how majestic some of her clothes made me feel in my youth.

@deborahcurtis1385 Жыл бұрын
Yes a question which she wasn't expecting. Usually an interviewer will give a heads-up if they are going to ask something so broad ranging as that, which is actually a philosophical question. She's a fashion designer and was expecting to discuss her own career. He asked that straight up presumably to throw her off her game, since instead of asking a followup to help her clarify her thoughts, he left her floundering. For instance, he could have said as a followup: how do you see your influence on society as an artist and designer? Instead he was asking her to justify the existence of art and design as a whole. Need? Need? She could have asked what he meant by that question. Because we can survive without art and beauty but it would be a desolate existence. He's a bit of an @hole.

No way! You wear clothes you feel comfortable in?? Comfort over appearance, Vivienne makes both comfort and stylish. People laugh at her however she’s a forward thinker, she has a futuristic mind and it’s almost like she predicts the future trends in years and years to come! People mock her designs on a chat show yet she’s just showcasing her style and what she stands for, she doesn’t expect people to wear them! She has an actual collection for that! Peoples problem back then was that they didn’t become adventurous with clothing, style and step outside their comfort zone, that’s why everyone thought her clothes were hilarious because she brought something new and fresh and something so unique to the world. And she’s helped so many people discover themselves through clothes.

She was copied by others who followed and without attribution. Creatives and artists don't always acknowledge sources, and she led the way so often.

How rude of the interviewer to ask a major fashion designer "what if all major fashion houses went bankrupt today?" Also, there is very little context to this clip. I'd also have trouble understanding it if I hadn't grown up in a family of tailors.

He was wrong then, and is still wrong now. She, on the other hand, made sense then and it still rings true. Paxman was always a condescending ignoramus.

A thousand thumbs up for that. I'm not familiar with the guy but he understands very little about art and should stick to topics which he does understand. He was appealing to the ignorance out there, who would have all artists starving in the garrets. Wait. Most already are. When a few succeed they must be punished by the likes of him.

Sounds harsh but I can't honestly believe Vivienne was 50 years old in 1991 - she looked 70 then and she's 74 now in 2015
@ajs418 жыл бұрын
+dgmcl3284 She probably just had a great time in the 60s and 70s and that took its toll on her appearance.
@sianwarwick633 Жыл бұрын
She had a 40s and 50s style, which she kept up in her 40s and 50s and onwards. She didn't want to ape the, for example, Cali-blond, smoothy face, smoothy hair look, which reduces everyone to looking like an aged 25 yr old. She created looks that had texture, sensuality and maturity. Her style referred to French Louis XIV shoes, and creating a walking artwork. This may seem like too much for us, but it wasn't for her.

Men have this beautiful ability to challenge eachother directly and duel as soon as they are threatened which can work brilliantly in formats like a Paxman interview. Westwood was female, through and through.

There is paradox everywhere in life. She clearly has stated that she uses her fashion house to fund her political activities and causes. It seems perfectly reasonable to me. But of course she's got to be seen as stupid, maybe because she's a woman.

Thanks for being so unhelpful. This is not a poll on like/dislike. You could have at least made a contribution by saying at least why, it could be some kind of critique, but you couldn't even be bothered doing that. You won't notice then that she is now dead. She despised laziness and people who didn't know what they stand for.

@deborahcurtis1385 Жыл бұрын
@@Househead1200 Yes but neither of you give any reasons nor show depth of understanding about her work. For instance her 'style' changed massively over the years. Plus she continued to evolve separately to McLaren. She realised that post punk she needed to hone her craft and she did that meticulously and broadly. I don't see her and McLaren as the same people at all. Not that I think everything Westwood did was great. Like most artists she produced some duds. But she led the way very often and her heart was in the right place. IMO.
