@@kenneth9874 That’s because since Japan’s article 9 doesn’t allow JSDF to have ANY kind of aggressive weapons like nukes/attack aircraft carriers/strategic bombers etc, JSDF wouldn’t be able to get a de-facto aircraft carrier with normal approach. Thus, it should be sneaky like building a “helicopter carrier” so people and congress would accept, but make it big enough and have a flexible design to modify later into a light aircraft carrier. But the article still says it’s forbidden to have an aircraft carrier so that’s why they keep calling it “helicopter destroyer” despite the fact it’s bigger than royal navy’s Invincible class aircraft carrier and can carry up to 28 jets and helos.

Friends is a bit of a stretch. Japan has only been allowed to have a defense force since the end of WW2. The US has been responsible for their protection since. *Simply Edit. Editing because I know someone is likely to try to "call me out" even though my comment was put "simply" for simple minded folks. The US wasn't obligated from the end of WW2 until currently to defend Japan. The responsibility to defend Japan didn't start until the agreement/treaty/whatever was ratified/amended years (10?) after the end of ww2. I'm going from memory. If you want to learn more about it do some research. It's pretty interesting and like most things a simple summary in the comment section on KZbin isn't going to cover everything.

@@lubu4u312 considering 2 countries as being friends is elementary. We are certainly allies are "friendly". But "friends"... It's not far off from calling a kidnapper and their victim friend just because the victim suffers from Stockholm syndrome. (First example that comes to mind) Japan didn't have much choice after WW2 other than to do away with the vast majority of their armed forces (only allowed to have a defense force). The US, knowing that without protection Japan would fall to another powerful country, agreed to defend Japan. That "relationship" is not a friendship. It's a result of war and America looking out for their own interest. Many in Japan certainly do want to rebuild their armed forces. They would not be designing and constructing "specific purpose vehicles" (or whatever term they are using), commonly known as tanks, if they did not want to rebuild their armed forces. "We would like it but should respect their decisions" is the wrong way of looking at it when it comes to the subject. If Japan really wants this to be a friendship then they should up their armed forces spending(and such)(which they did) to an extent capable of no longer needing protection from the US and relieving the US of their responsibility to defend Japan. Both countries should then mutually agree to defend each other, and of course follow through with such. Until that happens it isn't a friendship. Last quick thought as to why I say it isn't a friendship... NATO. just because countries are a member of NATO that doesn't mean they are all friends. *Because most people lack comprehension skills and let their emotions interfere... I'm not saying that I disagree with the post war decisions nor am I saying that Japan and the US are enemies of adversaries. Calling it a friendship is just childish because it is way more complex than that.

Japan has always been an innovator. This new ship is how carriers should be built. They are smaller than our carriers and also much quicker to build. This is the direction our Navy will go because super carriers take almost a decade to build which is unacceptable during a war. @Dark-rc7rd3 ай бұрын
I'm sorry but since when Japan was planning on building more aircraft carriers?
@naekosl30593 ай бұрын
@@Dark-rc7rd The TWO Izumo class helicopter carriers are modified into aircraft carriers. The Japanese are then leaning on the USA's knowledge and experience in operating carriers to evaluate the modified JS Kaga for appropriateness. Japan's constitution prohibits certain types of construction such as strictly attack equipment. It must be used for defense. Thus Japan will not be building attack carriers such as what China and the USA has. The problem with Japan is that it has a shortage of runways. It is expected that all runways will be cratered by the Chinese in a conflict, so short takeoff F-35B are essential fighters. That is the major reason behind Japan's shift from strictly helicopter carriers to having a carrier that can also support the F-35B fighter. Until the changes of design are finalized and approved, it wouldn't be economically prudent to build more dedicated aircraft carriers. The Izumo changes should firrst be evaluated, tested, and validated with USA cooperation before Japan simply rushes out to build more carriers.

What a difference 79 years make. Today, Japan is a stable representative democracy with an impressive economy and a pacifist streak that runs through its culture. Japan is not re-arming because its wants to conquer its neighbors and take their resources; it is re-arming because Japan sees a genuine threat to its own security -- and that of its Asian neighbors -- from the People's Republic of China (i.e., "Communist China") and its massive military buildup and aggressive actions towards its neighbors. American treaty allies like Australia, Japan, South Korea and even the Philippines are strengthening their military forces in response -- and this is exactly the reply that China needs to hear and see. America-friendly India is likewise reinforcing its naval, air and land forces. Chinese aggression is being met with increasing strength, so play nice!

Australia needs also to ‘lift its game’ and have two small/medium Carriers. This Japanese example might just fit the bill! Japan will train in carrier operations using the Kaga-class light aircraft carrier. Japan is the only country to have engaged in carrier-to-carrier combat with the United States. The world will become more peaceful if countries with powerful carrier strike groups form an alliance.

Japan’s economy started to go downhill immediately after the US opened up full trade relations with China in 1979. Big mistake! The US turned its back on a loyal ally to make easy money in investment deals with a geopolitical enemy. The modern Chinese superpower was created by the US - literally making a rod for their own back.

China navy vs Japan navy. The last real naval war between China and Japan was the 1894-1895 war. As a prelude to the Russo-Japan battle of the Strait of Tsushima 10 years later, Japan annihilated the Qing China's fleet. In WW2, China navy had nothing worth noting, while Japan navy was second only to the US's after Midway. Today China's aircraft carriers are second-hand rebuilt, which would make nice artificial reefs after Japan navy doing its short work.
@TSUTENKAKU0073 ай бұрын
But U.S. and Japan should not take things for granted, thinking Chinese navy is inferior/second-hand rebuilt. If there is all out war, you never know with China possessing massive quantities of short range missiles, they can over whelm. Never under estimate the enemy, as they say.

I feel that the US should bring back the PT boats. Advanced versions to pursuit and destroy the smaller displacements ships the PLA Navy has. Fast, small, maneuverable and full assortment of fire power. 15 men crew. Missiles, cannons and MA Dueces. EWAR suite. Those PLA Navy fishing boats won't be a threat any longer.

I'm Japanese. Kaga is just a destroyer, not an aircraft carrier. It happened to be possible to install the F35, so it was installed by chance. Therefore, Kaga is just a destroyer that can operate fighter planes, which is legal.
