When I was a kid _my_ dad came home with an OS-Enterprise (the only Trek the world had yet experienced) because he knew that Star Trek was SO important to me . I had a more than casual exposure to Scale Modeling because of my FANATIC _LOVE_ for Aircraft Scale Modeling (dad was an Air Force SAC Flight Officer ... ) so I was prepared to *DO this* - at a proficiency level that set me apart from my buds who were also fans . I DID the included lighting effects , even tho I was the only one of my friends to take it that far . The results - for the day - were EXCELLENT even _with_ the use of ALL hand-painting , where necessary . Since then , THAT incarnation of my modeling is LONG PAST and is no longer something I can pass down to MY grand kids , but recently I found an OS-Enterprise of the same scale as my ORIGINAL but without the originally included lighting package . I _plan_ (hope) to _someday_ share this experience with _MY_ grand kids , as you describe sharing with _your_ kids , at the end of this vid . While I could NEVER _HOPE_ to duplicate the effort and _results_ of what you've shared _here_ , I _DO_ expect the results to be WORTHY of the inspiration you've provided , and want to THANK you for the welcome encouragement ! The production of QUALITY MINIATURES is a DIRECT reflection of the LEGACY being preserved , and _I_ think , an important preservation AND expression _of_ that Legacy for the future . _I_ was inspired to go into Engineering Design as a result of my OS-Trek Experience ( I wanted to BE Captain Kirk !! ) , and something LIKE _this_ can continue to inspire excellence on the hearts of _OUR_ children, as WE _try_ to encourage a sense of *_hopefulness_* in _our_ kids and grand-kids . The *_real_* world that Trek gave us offers a CHANCE for a _future_ our children can live and prosper in . This Vid offers a _tangible_ help for _encouraging_ that *hopeful-look- **_forward_* so important - *especially* right _now_ . The World - _WIDE_ impact of the *Trek Mythology* offers a (hopefully) resilient component for this Historical LEGACY for our CHILDREN'S future , and is _part_ of why _I_ think the inspiration offered by presentations of _this_ sort are REALLY so important ! Ok , THAT'S _MY_

Hi Otaku (Mr Otaku?) Impressive work. I used to make plastic models when I was 8 years old. I stole 50 pence (UK) from my step mother to buy a model and some glue and sit on the side of the road building with no tools. I couldn't make them at home for obvious reasons... I am now 60 and am busy buying all I need to get back into the hobby. The models I have collected, but, not built yet include Bandai's perfect grade Millennium falcon, this kit you have just magnificently built, it's matching 1/350 Klingon D7 and a lot of others. I hope to learn from people like you and live long enough to build these magnificent kits. Thank you for the inspiration!

Late comment to the party, but seeing the Enterprise that your dad did which inspired you to start modeling was like a blast from the past for me. Not only did my dad also get me into model building, but your dad's paint and construction of that old-school Enterprise-A looks almost EXACTLY like the one I built 30+ years ago using the exact same paint colors he did (all per the manual!) and with only hand-painting with brushes. The crudeness was unavoidable, and it's really a testament to how far the hobby has come since then, especially with KZbin and the amount of resources people have to draw on for techniques. Back in the days when your dad and I built kits, all we had were the manuals and maybe a modeler's magazine. It's so great to see what people are capable of these days.

Yes! Glen and company are the best! Before moving from LA a little over a year ago, my friend Louis and I had a weekly ritual where we'd head over to the House of Hobbies after lunch at Islands. The folks at BHoH are great. And great build on the Enterprise.

This looks amazing. This is stuff I have always had a huge interest in and have always wanted to do, but could never afford so i have to live vicariously through those of you who can afford to do this. Just the models themselves are way out of my price range, let alone the paints, airbrush, lighting, etc.

I've been an avid Trek fan for four decades. In fact, the first projected film I recall seeing was The Wrath of Khan. In all the decades of my sci-fi passion, I think I will always come back to the Constitution Refit as the sexiest starship design ever. It's the perfect combination of real life form and function. This build is a testament to that timeless design and to your patience and skill. Saying "well done" seems shallow and superficial, but well done, sir. I wish I had a tenth of the skill you possess in your right pinky finger.

Wow. Very impressive, love the Aztecs done in the shimmer colours. That Enterprise nr the end of the video, that your father gave you - I have the exact same one from many many years ago - no airbrushing or high grade masking stuff then. As you said, it was a steady hand, and LOTS of time spent pulling my hair out and retouching areas. Also have the Enterprise D with a crappy glass bulb (rice grain size) that really needs pulling apart (that's gonna be 'interesting'), and LEDs fitted instead. You've given me the incentive to completely redo it. New lighting and shimmer paint aztecs. Should only take about a year 😉🤣🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖

Another great build Otaku. As someone who you got in to the hobby, thank you! Started with a simple HG Leo (still one of my fav kits! the simplicity is just nice) and now I have built the MG Wing Zero Custom Ver Ka, working on a MG Deathscythe Hell Custom with Heavy Arms and Epyon on deck, getting ready for my two most difficult builds, the archangel from Gundam Seed, which I am learning to air brush for, and then the MGEX Strike Freedom. Its been a long, enjoyable and expensive journey. But its gotten me through some tough times and some great times. Keep building my guy! Can't wait to see what's next! Thank you again my guy.

Great build you have there, and excellent video production value to your presentation here. You've convinced me I have to get my first Enterprise build from the late '70s (1/537, what may be left of it) out of storage before I attempt to record a 1/350 build. You bring a wonderful story in these two chapters. I picked up a 1/350 refit in the summer of 2021, and have dabbled some on the interiors with scratch-building but have extra pieces to do that with. I expect my build to take much more time than yours especially considering the time already, and I'm still in the gathering stage as I tinker with interior things to add to the build. Love the nod you give to the model shop, because quality shops are getting fewer and further apart and are such a valuable resource for all the little things. Sure, you can get pretty much everything online but there's a whole depth of experience in those hobby stores where, like here, you can get ideas and wisdoms from a random contact, store clerk, or display, that can take a build in incredible directions than you had thought of previously. Thanks

This was a great series on a great build but the end really got me. My Dad made me, if not the exact same kit, than the same model of the refit Enterprise in the same scale. It looked very similar to yours, very basic but nice. It hung from fishing string in my bedroom for years until it fell and was broken. I wish I'd been able to fix it, I'd love to have it. After about a 20 year hiatus, I picked up the hobby again and my first build was the Polar Lights 1/1000 scale refit Enterprise which I did as the 1701-A. Great work on a beautiful model!

Super fantastic build my friend. I too am building my 1:350 Refit, nearly done. I know how this build can be so to those who never built a 1:350 Enterprise Refit...do your research on the ship and colors and make sure you have all the supplies needed and most importantly take your time and if you make a mistake, walk away and come back with fresh eyes and a rested mind after all it's just plastic and it can be fixed...ask me how I know lol

Normally I dont post comments but. Early this year I lost my grandmother to cancer. She got me into star trek at quite a young age with the films from the motion picture to nemesis. I'll always be glad to have seen a glimpse of what could one day become fact. Despite everything wrong with our world I hope that one day we can finally see past our differences. Put racism and prejudice in the past where it belongs and live together and strive to better ourselves every day. All it takes is a few good people to guide us to the stars. (Side note. I never expected to type all that at 2am)

This was really beautiful. I understand the desire to maintain a positive legacy. It really speaks to me. Passing on something that brought you so much joy shared with your parents in your youth. I started young as far as parenthood goes. I have three beautiful kids and at 30, my oldest will be seven soon. It's surreal. Only in recent years did I really dive headfirst back into stuff I really loved as a kid. Collecting toys and now I like building model kits. I want to preserve it and pass it on to my little ones while I can.

You could always use 2 mm tower (or "lighthouse") LED's to get a kind of spotlight on a certain area easier than the method you were using. They have a variety of colors and you can get them in either clear or diffused. They're great for putting a light spot right where you want it.
