This might be a bit too optimistic, but my reading of Hunter X Hunter has always been that while the series can get really dark and often time covers some really depressing topics and ideas, it ultimetly always ends with an optimistic messege. York New still ended with Kurapika giving up his revenge and Pakunoda saving her friends. The Chimera Ants arc still ended with Meruem becoming human and getting to spend his final moments with Komugi. The road is often roguh and depressing but the destination is always nice and and hopeful. Now the ending could still be hopeful even if Kurapika dies, but my gut feeling is that Kurapika won't die, at least not during the Succession War arc. I think that by the end of the succession war Kurapika will finally find something to fight for that isn't revenge of his dead friends, so he could finally focus on a much healthier relationship (presumebly with Woble).

I liked the one video where the guy suggested something along the lines of most of spider being killed, then Chrollo meeting Kurapika...with both of them still dying, but not necessarily in an all-out fight.

the dark continent has set up a nice potential solution to kurapika's short life span (nitro rice), gon's loss of nen (mother solution and herb that can cure anything), and killua having a limitless electrical source ( that rock volt generator). If the hunter association gets their hands on it, I bet Leorio would probably take the lead on utilizing all of the dark continent treasures. He's a zodiac and had already won over the association's trust. But it really is looking like kurapika finna die XD.

I hope this is true, but with his life goal being to murder the troupe and avenge his clan, added on to his ability, its really easy for Togashi to kill him off. Once he accomplishes both these things, his character is finished, and for what its worth, I don't see a happily ever after for Kurapika, everything he's done is geared towards vengeance and if it doesn't kill him in the process, his own ability will.

I have a theory that may seem very cliched. Perhaps an artefacts from the dark continent could save him. In fact, the Kurta clan could possibly even originate from the dark continent. Why are the kurtas the only one (known so far) with the unique ability of colour changing eyes? Even so when kurapika gain overwhelming overpowered abilities? If my memories serves, in one of the first chapters of the dark continent arc, several “curses” were revealed the afflict those who wandered into the dark continent. I can’t help but believe that kurapika might have a certain resistance or biology that could possibly use stuff from the dark continent to extend his lifetime or something.

I certainly think the kurta clan’s unique ability means they are either a dark continent species that migrated and integrated with humans or a human clan were affected by the dark continent in some way. The only other explanations that seems plausible is some kind of nen “curse” (its not exactly a bad thing so hard to really call it a curse at that) either afflicted on them by a third party or developed by the original kurta out of sheer will (like the villagers who all have the same power which they pass to their offspring) or the original kurta had a genetic defect and was very prolific but that’s boring lol. I’m not a manga reader (although I do know most of the manga through wikis) but I don’t believe we know much about the kurta eyes. I wonder if the scarlet eyes made all kurta stronger or if kurapika’s emperor time is a unique ability tied to his emotions regarding scarlet eyes. I think I remember uvogin or franklin saying something about how they were a challenge in reference to their slaughter which makes me think the scarlet eyes perhaps allowed unconscious use of nen to enhance their physical capabilities

If the kurta are from the dark continent and stronger than humans, who knows what that means for their maximum potential. Being from the dark continent just proves that something is capable of being insanely powerful given the intense ecosystems and massive survival pressure

The thing about Kurapika is he is abnormally intelligent. Compared to other manga\anime he is basically their smartest people in verse, and here he is just a slightly above normal but still insanely smart boi. If he has time to think, he can essentially engineer a situation that's always beneficial to himself. He is one of the scarier opponents just because the smallest slip up in your specifics can lead him to information that he needs to surmise your ability, weaknesses and ways to exploit you and he can do this from something seemingly irrelevant and having nearly nothing to do with anything involved. It's actually incredible how analytical the people in HxH are and the situations are still bad enough that they can't just win off rip, like what would happen in basically any other manga\anime that would have someone as analytical as Kurapika. Truly a testament to Togashi-san's writing for sure

I like how even though Kurapika is smart, he is still making some mistakes throughout the situations in this arc like the wasted 5 years of his life because of a failed cockroach spy, broadcasting the existence of nen beast and nen to the first deck, and the wrong assumption that the Succession War can be stopped by withdrawing or escaping from it ( Prince Halkenburg tried to end himself but he cannot because the Nen beast doesnt allow him to and Prince Kacho dies because of some restriction of escaping the war will lead to death). Not really counting the double edge sword of teaching the other bodyguards nen because yeah it can create a stalemate however it can backfire to Kurapika if the people will turn against him.

So many times I've been reading and then something the character shouldn't know and was never told to them, they just say they know all about it casually and it doesn't make sense for them to, but because the reader learned the the author forgot the other characters didn't learn it yet and just assimilates reader knowledge to the character. When this happens many people never notice because it's information they already knew so the other characters learning it off screen seems not to matter, but it does.

Gon lived through killuas friend ship and desire to keep him alive. Leorio might be the one to save kurapica through his medical nen or even just talk him through his final moments. Leorio needs this as he’ll be the one to take over on the dark continent (if we get there) but also journey as a hunter started because he couldn’t save his childhood friend and leorio still has his part to play in this story.

Sadly Kurapika is not long for this world. He is enemies with some of the strongest and most ruthless/nefarious characters in the show. He is targeting not only the entire phantom troupe but also the 4th prince who is easily the most sinister of all the princes if not the most sinister character in the entire anime. As if all of that wasn’t already enough to shorten his life span he is also literally doing that to himself via his nen abilities. And to top it all off he is guarding the lowest ranking prince and he has very little to no help with all of this. All that adds up to him not living very long and I predict he will die right after completing his mission.

I've had a theory for a little while about how Kurapika ends up in the succession war arc. It hinges on how anyone is going to deal with second prince Camilla's seemingly invincible nen ability. There's no way that she will willingly step down from participating in the war and will have to be killed somehow but the question is, how do you kill her? It's very likely that Kurapika has been using emperor time before this arc to help gather his clans eyes and so went into this arc with not a whole lot of life force left. My theory is that the second prince will be one of the last princes remaining in the war if not the last remaining besides Woble and she will come to kill him. Kurapika is going to somehow figure out exactly how much life force time he has left from his use of emperor time and will have to decide on finally finishing his grand mission of retrieving his clans eyes with the small amount of time he has left or protecting Woble. He'll ultimately choose to protect Woble and will strategically use emperor time to reduce his life span further and kill Camilla shortly before his own life span would be gone. Her ability then drains him of his remaining life span and and transfers it to Camilla but she is resurrected only for a few minutes and dies shortly after leaving Woble as the winner of the succession war.

@@d3rduck So far, the only restrictions that have been shown for that ability is that he can only steal one ability at a time and once he gives it to someone or uses it himself he can never steal the same ability again. He doesn't even need to be in emperor time to steal an ability, he only needs emperor time to give the ability to someone else. For such a powerful ability there has to be other major restrictions than that though. Considering the two other ability stealing hatsu's that we've seen there has to be some preconditions that he has to meet before he can steal since in it's current form it's basically a guaranteed win ability since it forces the victim into zetsu.

the way i (and my friends) think about kurapika and his arc, we're around 90% sure he would die in the end whether its because he dies in battle or because of emperor time. its a tragic end regardless, especially since hes such a major and beloved character, but we know togashi is not above killing off popular characters. maybe he wont die in the succession war, maybe he wont die in the dark continent, but he'll probably will Die (at a young age) at the end of hxh

not necessarily true, Nen users can prolong their life depending on how strong their nen is. Netero, Maha Zoldyck, and Ging's grandfather lived extremely prolonged lives and Maha/gramps are still alive. Also there are other ways to prolong life in the HXH universe.

Nobody talks enough about Leorio. I have a feeling that if Kurapika were to die, Leorio will be our new main character. This would give Leorio the tragedy of not being able to save another friend because his nen was too weak. An event like not being able to save his friend again would be enough for Togashi to write a Leorio arc. Think about the set up. Leorio became a Hunter after his friend dies of illness. Leorio punches Ging and attempted to rally the Hunter association to save Gon. Leorio would feel that he needs to improve his nen so nobody could bring harm to anymore friends. Leorio lacked a reason to have his own arc because he is not a combat focused character which made him the weakest of his friends.

It all depends on Kurapika and the situation of his choices and even if he does survive the Dark Continent awaits even though his Nen abilities are extraordinary good keep in mind some of these abilities were meant to fight the phantom troop the dark continent is a whole new playing field with unknown dangers and hazards and Foe's unheard of one thing's for sure he would have gotten a taste of the experience of what it was like with the chimera ant Arc but he was too looking for the rest of his Clan's eyes And maybe this secession war might teach him a few things and make him a little stronger

Idk how I feel About that, kurapkia has never shown any ability that is similar to resurrection and he is pretty tapped out on nen abilities. However to give your theory some credit, if kurapica was in specialist mode it is possible his nen could do some resurrection shit given kurapicka sheer desire and drive to do right by his clan. I think it’s a long shot though and I don’t think that would be a satisfying ending, I think a better ending might be if jurisdictional makes it to the dark continent and learns his clan originated from the dark continent (hence explaining why they have scarlet eyes), before kurapica ends up inevitably dieing

I find it strange that Halkenburg is said to have a good relationship with Tserreidnich. Have we seen ever seen the two interact directly? It’s just strange. The 9th prince seems to have a strong sense of justice, given his willingness to assassinate his father and king in order to end the death battle between himself and his siblings. Meanwhile the 4th prince is straight up twisted in the head. Or is it that Tserreidnich is secretive about his “artwork” and Halkenburg simply doesn’t know what he gets up to in his spare time?

The tension for Kurapika's survival and mission success is ramped wayyy up now since York New city. It makes sense why Togashi is taking so long to write this type of story arc now and holy hell is it nerve wracking. I think this arc will end with Kurapika realizing that revenge isn't worth it, that he should stop fighting for dead people and focus on his own life..... Btw it's stated that he's focusing solely on retrieving the eyes back and is yet to kill again, it's unlikely that he used Emperor Time for a long duration (or even used it at all), so there's a possibilty his life span is not that much shortened and won't die in this arc. Or maybe he'd use Emperor Time for too long and die ( I certainly wish it doesn't happen). And yeah, Phantom Troupe's there along with a clown (I don't think Hisoka would kill him tho, as he's currently hunting fot PT). And that he's a body guard..... Makes me glad I'm not Kurapika, but seriously, I don't want him to die :(
