Once a Beltway neoconservative, Tucker Carlson came to embody the angry, forgotten white man-railing at “the élites” and propagating racist conspiracy theories and the lie of the stolen election. “Unlike a lot of his colleagues at Fox News, he made news, he set the agenda,” Kelefa Sanneh, who wrote about Carlson in 2017 (www.newyorker.com/magazine/20..., says. “People were wondering, What is Tucker going to be saying tonight?” Sanneh joins Andrew Marantz (www.newyorker.com/contributor...) and David Remnick to discuss Carlson’s demise, and what comes next. And Clare Malone reports on Candace Owens (www.newyorker.com/news/annals..., the powerful right-wing influencer and provocateur who’s set her sights on the future of right-wing media-and on a younger and more female audience than that of Fox News.

Like Donnie, Tucker’s use of “you” and “they” and “us” and ours” sounds inclusive for those who feel lost in today’s world ad well as being ambiguous enough to allow the listener to fill in the blanks with whatever they want to hear.

Even though Candace is talking about respecting her feminine nature, I’m getting a strong impression that her feminine side is very repressed. She seems to lack empathy big time, seems to have a repressed feeling nature, and is just stuck in spouting terse and divisive rhetoric. It would be a genuine gift to her audience, if she were to actually have more respect for her feminine qualities… Which is of course a valuable choice in each of our lives! 💜

Candace Owens does hit pieces on policies and people she or her allies want to attack, willfully misrepresents situations, and ignores inconvenient truths. And I can't blame her research team for Candice repeating lies that were debunked a year or more earlier, because the truth is widely known. Her being black could appeal to Fox News Channel, but not to Tucker's viewers. With the topics she currently chooses, I think she'd have sparse advertisers, similar to Tucker's.
