This really really helped me. I got sick in November and my teacher thinks dormant strain from last April came up again and caused it to hurt when I sing for almost two months, until I reluctantly got on prednisone. I have been singing fine and then just yesterday I did some speech (not singing) vocal exercises here on KZbin. The video was four min long but right after, I felt strain. I'm so upset because I thought I was finally going to be in the clear. It has been the hardest thing ever for me to endure...I got on a second dosage of prednisone and will be done tomorrow. It just seems like something prednisone can't fix and I need to see a speech therapist but sadly none take my insurance. I'm trying to see if any speech pathologists help with this or clinics and hospitals but it is just a lot of work and it makes me even more frustrated people asking me about my music, singing and when I will be performing again. I've felt so held back and prevented from opportunities and doing what I love most. It's the worst 😔😔

Singing is like any other physical activity. If you have a long break, your body becomes untrained. You need to ease yourself back into it slowly over a period of time. Not doing too much too soon and building some strength in your tessittura and slowly pushing further into your full range. I had the same issues after a long break, but it does come back.
