Hi Ray. This is Justin Stoney from the show. I am so pleased to hear that this video could be a help to you in a dark moment of your life. Ray, your singing voice and your life itself are precious gifts from God. I want you to know this and I want you to know that I will be praying that each and every day things are looking brighter and brighter for you. Please don't ever stop singing and making a JOYFUL noise - even when things seem to be falling apart. Sometimes we think very bad thoughts about ourselves. And, sometimes others can say some very mean things about us. But, Ray, I want you to know that you and your voice are very special creations. Trust me on this Ray - the best is truly yet to come for you and your life. Your most blessed days and happiest moments are in your future. If there is anything that me or any of us at NYVC can do for you, please feel free to write us an email. In the meantime, know that my prayers and best thoughts are with you as you discover all the things that make that you a special and one-of-a-kind person. Because indeed you are Ray. I believe in you Ray. And, I am so proud that you made the decision to SING! Never ever stop my brother... Joy, Justin Stoney

I think the part about exploring your full voice (practicing in the various extremes that Justin mentions) and not practicing to sing "pretty" all the time is the best advice anyone can ever give you. You'll train your ears to work with your muscles to get the right mixture of those extremes and come out with something great, and that your ears can appreciate.I used to compare my voice with others and was never satisfied. Now I don't compare, or rather, I compare it with itself and how it sounded when I did something different with my tongue, jaw or embouchure.

The way I learned to like my voice was to record myself and then sing along with the recording. In my case, it helped me realize that my voice was almost the same as in the recording and it helped me accept how I really sounded. Many people dislike listening to their voice when it's recorded because they don't hear themselves how they usually do (in their own head), but they hear what other people hear (and often find beautiful). Thanks for another awesome video! (:

Justin, I must do a bit of praising in te manner in which you professionally and humanly present yourself. Your videos are all done in a very kind, thoughtful, and helpful manner; furthermore, your daily tips are magnanimously well done on so many levels. The tip I got today sort of put me over the edge, in that your concern for the respect and courtesy of others was verbalized in a most pleasing and kindly fashion. I think what you said is many times forgotten and many at one time or another are remiss in their gratitude and respect for other people's talent, time, and help. Thank you for your time, professional help, courtesy, and kindness. God Bless!

Great video! I love how encuraging you are! Funfact: The great tenor Franco Corelli started off teaching singing to himself with only a few lessons from a professional in his early twenties. It was only after he recorded himself (in the 1940s, he was a marine engineer with access to recording equipment) that he noticed how bad he actually sounded. He got himself a voice teacher, studied singing and only 5 years later he stood on opera stage with Maria Callas. He became one of the greatest tenors of the 20th century who was admired even by Pavarotti who said that "Corelli had vocal chords of steel". Now, that's a story of success.... thanks goodness he recorded himself... :D

I've never ever saw a video 11 minutes long worth this much, its unbelievably packed up with the right information. Well done! I have problem with 4.Sing in the right place at the right time. You see, my house is crowded, in every room there is someone, and i get really nervous when i am about to practice, especially because my father told me multiple times to just quit and that i am not fit to be singer. My only hope was the time they weren't home, or when i take long walks in forest near my house. After 2 years of practicing i finally managed to sound decent enough no to disturb anyone listening, but i still can't practice with 100% potential and i know its all in my head and i shouldn't listen to my fathers words but i just can't stop thinking about it its frustrating.

Thank you so much, Justin, you inspire me a lot. Gotta drop the kitchen practicing and being shy of my neighbours and get with a vocal coach already. I really love to sing, on stage and off it, but feel like I need some guidance on the way.
