I wouldn’t cover a €4000 headset like a consumer headset on this channel. I’m blessed to be a software engineer with no kids or partner so if I wanted to splurge on this, I could. However, even the Aero and Crystal are already stretching and serious considerations for my wallet if necessary - worth considering as a price of entry for serious DCS avionics usage (clarity needed when doing A/G primarily). But this price is high enough you should be qualifying it in a way that lets people dream of it, but not feel left out. “No subscription” is not a sale. Access was restricted about €2500 ago.

Not waiting to see the Reality 12K? It will be way cheaper and have features directly aimed at simmers and gamers. The res should be higher and the face and hand recognition should be cool. Not only does it potentially start to push what is achievable in terms of quality, immersion and all the things we want from vr in flight sim. But actually a secondary benefit means theres more choice, that means mid and high end headsets of today may become even more affordable as Varjo's consumer competitors are forced to up their game and work towards thier next offering. Overall I think this is absolutely great news for vr and for flight sim!

When everything is just right it's the most lifelike I've seen anything in VR, but the glare, and tiny sweet spot is a very real thing. I was hoping the glare would be a here and there annoyance but it's frequently apparent to some degree. My biggest concern here is that Razer is involved. When it comes to VR, they don't have a very good track record. Anyone who might remember from back around 2015-16, they were supplying the OSVR HDK-2 headset but offered no support for it at all. I bought one to replace my Oculus HDK1 and although it had a much better(at the time) resolution(same as the og vive) and 90HZ refresh rate, the drivers being opensource weren't being improved on at all. I had signed into the forum that was setup to it in hopes of getting a fix for the horrible drift issue it had but at the time(at least for a year and a half) nobody was working on a fix for it at all. I even had a go at trying to fix the issue myself, but not being a coder found it very fustrating and in the end just gave up. I eventually got the HTC-Vive which I still have to this day which was a way better investment given it still works perfectly fine, even if the resolution is well behind what other VR systems have to offer. I only hope that Razer don't screw over those who go for the controllers like they did with OSVR HDK-2.

I watched the whole Varjo presentation. Very impressive, but I am not sure if the base version is actually Mixed Reality or not, and I wonder why the XR3 and VR3 resolution is 70ppd, but this is 'only' 51ppd. Previously VARJO made a big deal of Human Eye resolution. Do you have further knowledge of the matter?

I am guessing they did tests with military pilots, known to have the highest standards in eyesight, and they settled on 51ppd being where there were not suitable enough gains going from 51ppd up to 70ppd.

@@mattbackvassNot sure I am on the right track at all. The quoted ppd is for the pass through. and for us mere mortals it is 30ppd. 51ppd passthrough is for the $9000 version. VR ppd is not given so I just assume that it is "plenty" without giving figures they kept saying it is the best possible VR experience. Anyway - I can't afford either!

@@fuzzywun i would re-watch the part where they describe the new aspheric lenses. They clearly mention that the aspheric lenses are set in such a way that the sweet spot itself is 51ppd. it must broaden out on the edges.

Unfortunately, when it comes to REAL PCVR HMDs, only the rich may apply! :( Agreed with another commenter, the G2 as a SteamVR HMD with good pancake optics would be a dream but that's not going to happen. So I guess the best us average folks can do for now is the Quest 3 or Pico 4, I miss the days of not having to worry about a damned battery, I really don't mind being tethered to the PC if it means no battery to worry about. Too bad we are all victims of Zuck's vision, a Quest 3 with different guts to be a REAL PCVR HMD (Rift-3?) would be amazing, bring on the tether and a real DP connection without a damned battery! LOL

Yeah, even thought i have spent over 10k on hardware for dcs that includes a full virpil flight setup a pimax crystal and a chair that moves with the game. So im not against spending money. However Im in IT and I know to stay away from a product when it first launches. No way this wont be a hot mess when it arives. Also i dont even think a 4090 will be able to give you the performance that a headset like this needs to max eveything out. Hell i upgraded my 2080 to a 4080 just to make sure the pimax crystal had the best of the best, and i can max out all settings

No need of a DP Cable with USB3.2 or even USB 4.0 Since Display port 1.2, we certainly have an auxiliary bidirectional channel of 720 Mbit/s allowing the routing of Ethernet and USB 2.0. intended for other optional data..between a multimedia player and a screen for example...but the DP of the graphics cards, it's only mounted as outputs by Nvidia and AMD...Video output and nothing more! ... Strictly speaking, AMD and its 7900, equipped with a USB-type C socket intended for VR, and which therefore has the equipment for... they have the DP2.1, more advanced... which could work if AMD wanted it...But since it's not my part, I'm just guessing. you need appropriate software to use the DP OUT output of the CGs and add a second cable...: USB.. Faced with a late Nvidia, and AMD...which tends to forget VR, then we understand better why, VR device manufacturers choose USB which come out of a motherboard, since with USB 3.2, you have a "DisplayPort 1.4 Alternate Mode" protocol (8K 7680x4320@60Hz or 4K 4096x2160@120Hz...compressed...) + data transfer (videos and data up to 20Gbit/s) + Power Delivery up to 60W. Better than what Nvidia can currently offer... So, we all believe that the DP is great (while it remains compressed, and that it is mature only in 2.0), because most of programs from Meta, Pico,etc,... make the error of just taking into consideration, USB 3.0 (5Gbit/s) to fit the majority of configurations, and restricts performance... whereas in USB3.2 gen2 (videos and data up to 20Gbit /s) you are largely at the level of DP1.4... what can we say about USB4.0 (40Gbit/s) ! Please note that DP and USB in their latest version are not made to exceed 3 m of cable... We then understand that VR manufacturers want to favor wireless

I don't think people realise how much a bigger deal autofocus is for VR, especially one that can mimic the human eye. That's some serious tech.
