Thank you so much for posting this video. My mom (Grammy) purchased the Asus Memo Pad 7 for 4 of our children for Christmas. Within a day or so we started having problems; one wouldn't power on and one wouldn't charge. I thought it was the charging port but my husband said he thought it was the battery. We did an online search and found your video. We decided to try your fix. Sure enough the battery was disconnected due to some design flaws from the manufacturer. It was a simple fix and now all of the tablets are working and charging as expected. Thanks again for such a helpful video!

You are friggin genius! It worked. OMG. What a relief. I have been fighting this for months! We unplugged the battery...actually it was dangling be the tips and barely plugged in anyways. That explains why the battery has been showing an explanation point for so long. Then cut a piece of cardboard and wedged it in between the case and the battery because it was swimming around in there, then taped into place. Love your show man. Ugh! Thanks!

As the clips aren't yellow I'm confused by what you are describing though. The gold spring parts are used to transfer the signal to the antennae. Is it these you've broken? The cover needs to be securely in place or the antennae will not connect properly.

Taking a look at other devices (mainly android phones) and what you mentioned in your video, I'm taking a wild guess that the extra unused button may be the trigger button for the uninstalled camera. I could be wrong cos logically it'd be really messy to have 4 buttons being used on the same area.
@PIXscotland11 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear it didn't work. Sounds like the battery may be faulty on that one. Hopefully you are still in warranty and can get this fixed free.
@sheldonmacdonald77511 жыл бұрын
was your 4th button in a small black case with a pin hole in it? its a reset button on mine aswell. on the outercase it has the pin hole there matching up with it. btw.... my nexus seems to be charging again....whew! only had it for 2 weeks.
@PIXscotland11 жыл бұрын
If I was designing it, that would be a direct access to the camera button. Some phones already have these and they would be handy I suppose. I don't do many photos on my Nexus 4, but having a quick swipe to access is good so a button may be better? Either way round, the Nexus 7 interface works well enough as it is.
@PIXscotland11 жыл бұрын
Hmm. I looked at our Nexus 7 and it has the four buttons marked KEY1 to KEY4. No "Reset" that I could see. We had a play around with the buttons in various combinations while powered on and off but KEY4 appeared to do nothing. Not to worry though. Your device is working again, that's the important part.

Thanks for the video came back from holiday to dead nexus - flickering screen etc. The 4th button seems to be a reset button which I pressed. Waiting to see it the reset button I pressed has worked - or if ive reset it to factory settings and lost all my stuff : ( ? !

A full charge from a totally dead battery can take a couple of hours. Try to use the original charger for the machine as third party ones can charge the device much more slowly.

Yep it works charged up and booted as normal with all my stuff still on it Closer look at the 4 buttons the right one without a button on the case has the word reset printed on the PCB next to it Is it worth drilling a small hole in the case to easily reset it if I happens again ? should i return mine, i did this yesterday and it works, but now i plug it in to my pc and the sound for a device inserting and being plugged out keeps playing and it goes on charge until the sounds stop and it stops charging so how am i supposed to charge it
@PIXscotland10 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a bad connector. Firstly I'd suggest you try a new micro-USB cable on the charger. Then try a new charger from a phone etc. If it's the cable it might be easier to just buy another one for a few £$. If it's the tablet you should contact tech support to see what they advise next. If out of warranty replacing the USB port might be worth trying, but they'er not cheap or easy to find.

I tried this but it didn't work on my particular one - what DID work was holding down the power and volume down button and THEN plugging in the charger and releasing the buttons. It stops flashing and starts charging.

My nexus was low battery last night so I charged it and the screen off but this morning it wouldn't turn on again. I tried the power/volume buttons but it still didn't work so I unplugged the battery and waited a few minutes and plugged it back in but when I tried to turn it back on, it still wouldn't turn on. Based on what other people say happened to their nexus' it seems like mine's having the same problem--flickering screen, charging problems and now the blank screen that won't turn on but the fix doesn't seem to be working. Is there anything else that I can do to try and fix it?
@nalrodriguez11 жыл бұрын
Im trying to do this, ive already done the battery trick it does not working, ill leave it unplugged a few minutes and see if it works.... too bad ! its only like 6 months old and only charges when drained or in bootloader, when ON it does not detect any charging, nether does USB Debugging on the PC.
@IcoKirov10 жыл бұрын
hei, my nexus 7's USB stopped transferring data. the recharging still works (although i think a bit slower) but there is no data transfer, when i connect it to a pc nothing happens, the pc doesnt register it in any way. also the headphone jack stopped working as well. the most obvious problem is if the flex cable that is with both those ports is broken in some way, but i wonder if there is other problem that could cause this and if i can check it to be sure. i don't want to spend >$20 plus shipment and find out it was not the flex cable with the ports...
@PIXscotland10 жыл бұрын
Swap out another cable from a micro-usb device for testing. The headphone and the power socket share a connector so it may be that unplugged/faulty too. Check over here, www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+7+Teardown/9623 It should be easy enough to re-seat the connector. Be careful of course and if it's in warranty, send it for repair without opening it up!
@IcoKirov10 жыл бұрын
It is not in waranty. and i have tested different cables it is not because of them. it is either in the I/O unit (the one with the ports) or somewhere after it in the chain (like the ribbon cable that is connected to the I/O unit). i have opened it a couple of times, so i know how to do it. but i don't know if there is a way to test the I/O unit, to see if IT is broken. i guess i just have to risk it and get a new I/O flex cable. hopefully the problem is there.

Hi. @PIXscotland I'm Zoë, and I have a nexus 7 also. One thing that I'd an issue is if I drop it, even lightly place it down, it will shut off. It will normally take me 5-7 minutes to hold down the power button for it to turn on. Sometimes it won't turn on. Also, occasionally, it will mess up the date and time. The last thing I'm concerned about is my battery percentage. It works perfectly fine, but the battery percent always says "0%" but when I charge it for even a week PR two, it will still shoe "0%" even though I know its fully charged and I don't know when it will shut off. Any advice? Take your time to respond Thanks, Zoë K.

My screen was broken so I never charge my n7 until it drain out and left uncharged for months. Now I have the screen fixed but it wont charge or turn on when plugged in. Tried every step from the support page, power and vol down,etc, it just wont charge at all. Is the battery dead when left uncharged for a long period?
@PIXscotland11 жыл бұрын
Try charging the battery overnight even if the machine isn't showing a charge symbol. After the overnight, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Don't unplug the charger first. If that fails, check the machine has been rebuilt correctly. I hope this helps.
@boncuuu11 жыл бұрын
+PIXscotland someone from a blog told me that the battery won't be chargeable after being empty for a long time. So my dad took it to his work where they have current booster to give the battery a kick start. This doesn't always work, depending on how long it has been uncharged but luckily it worked. The regular charger supply only 2A and not strong enough to charge a totally empty battery. He used double the current of the standard charger.
@PIXscotland11 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about the battery not charging again issue. A totally dead device should be left for a full 10 hours or more as per first charge and should recover. I think the very old Nexus 7 might have had a problem with this though. I'd be tempted to use a current limited charge for a few hours directly plugged to the red/black power leads of the batter myself. Just be careful not to over charge as that type of battery hates abuse.

Working the machine hard may cause the charge to drop even when on charge. The charger can delivery around 1amp of power, but a bright screen and heavy processor load can exceed this. What you are describing may not be a fault.

Never a good thing to hear about. Seems very odd that you have two like this though. Are you using the original charger on both devices? Don't try charging these on USB from a computer as it doesn't work. You should get back to Asus ASAP and get them sent back in. Far from a perfect solution but it's what's needed. You might want to try this battery unplug/replug too but be careful when under warranty. You don't want to damage anything.
@PIXscotland10 жыл бұрын
@Zoë And Abi That's quite an odd way for the battery to operate. I did a bit of Googling and found this... www.reddit.com/r/Nexus7/comments/19y2u4/nexus_7_always_showing_0_battery_despite_full/c9qnvbo p0windah 1 point 1 year ago My father had the exact same problem. I tried a factory reset and fiddling around with different chargers and cables. I discovered the source of the problem after I popped off the back case to look at the battery. The battery is connected to the motherboard with a clip that has around 6 wires on it. The clip on my fathers tablet had managed to work itself partially loose. So I unplugged the clip, counted to 10, plugged it back in and everything is working fine again. It seems that the battery connection is likely to the the source of the issue. The yellow and white wires carry the charge and data signals so one of them is probably not connecting quite right. I hope this helps.
