Incase no one else has said it. That last part of the song Nate had kicked the whole production team out of the booth because he was overloaded and knew he was gonna break down during the verse.

Just got a chance to stop by and watch your reaction. This song is an emotional wrecking ball for me. I lost my mom when I was 16. She wasn’t a drug addict but she was addicted to abuse. I thought I saved us (my mom and 4 siblings) by having her husband arrested after he went ham on us back in December 22, 1998. But upon his release February ‘99 she went back to him with 3 of my younger siblings only to die from his beatings May ‘99. I carried that anger, hurt, pain, and disappointment all these years until I came across this song by Nate. I broke. Ugly tears snot filled nose heart wench wailing tears 😭😭😭 for days. This song helped me put down my tough girl mask and just feel everything. Thanks for reacting to this song. Appreciate your thoughts and honesty. I might not be able to relate as far as drugs but an addiction is an addiction PERIODDDDD. If you are compulsively doing something over and over again that is harmful to your wellbeing, that is an addiction and you need to seek professional help!!!

Every time I listen to this I end up crying my eyes out at the end when he’s talking about how his kids won’t ever get to meet her or know her in person. Because my dad died when I was 8 turning 9 from a surgery to help his heart after we found out he had an heart attack. I miss him a lot and always think about how my kids won’t every get to see him untill we get to hevan and stuff but it’s just so sad 😭 because thiers a lot of times I just wonder if he would be proud of me or wish that I went hunting with him or fishing before he died my brother took be hunting and fishing for the first time but know he never has time to take me to go fishing or something and he’s the only close thing to a father figure so it a bummer

I cried the first time I heard this song... and I don't even relate to it, I just felt so bad for NF. It's a song that wants to make you make amends with everyone you know who you might have upset because you never know when/if your going to see them again
@sortaamy30033 жыл бұрын
As the child of 2 addicts, there's nothing you can do if they don't want to change. Period. And opioids themselves aren't bad. I should be(through genetics) highly susceptible to addiction, yet I'm not. I'm actually opposite(perhaps because I have such a high tolerance that I don't feel high even on a lot of very, very strong opioids). Just a note to everyone out there: if your meds make you feel high, they are too strong for you and you need to ask for a lower dose/lesser drug(obviously in the case that you actually need them). Take them as prescribed(not 2 or 5 or 10 because you like it or they aren't working well. If they don't work well, ask your dr because you may need a different type of med). And if you need help, reach out.

I never lost a parent to death by drugs. But I never had my biological family able to take care of me because they were/are drug addicts. My mom had a one night stand with my dad and that was it, he had a fiancée and son and I feel like my mom never should have done that with him, and I don’t feel proud of my “dad” for betraying the trust of his fiancée and son. My mom and dad were both drug addicts, I have 6 half siblings and my mom had my oldest brother at 15. My mom did heroin when she was pregnant with me early on and she did end up getting back in jail when she was pregnant with me which resulted in me being adopted. My dad was never in my life but he and my mom were pen pals in jail before she got released, and shortly after I was conceived. I can somewhat relate to NF on this song, but I never had someone die because of drug addiction. My biological mom is clean and has been clean for a few years now and I get to see her, unfortunately for my dad he has made no effort to try to get in contact with my bio mom or even tried to get in contact with me. NF writes such powerful music and I absolutely thank him for that.
