The Broncos were hoping for that by design with a fire-drill field goal. They had no timeouts but forced the Bills to use all of their timeouts on defense, and then did this.

That game between Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, the Bengals were hit with two penalties on that play. First was the hit by Burfict during the play itself; the second was by Adam Jones getting into a scuffle with a Steelers coach during the subsequent injury timeout.

That entire scenario began with a RB Jeremy Hill DUMB fumble turnover, when all he had to do was hold onto the ball. Burfict's call was a good call, another DUMB play by him. Adam Jones is retired now and still won't shut his mouth after all these years. The truth is 16 years having Lewis as head coach settling for undisciplined unprofessional football. Ownership tolerated this crap for that long. By the way, Marvin Lewis, Hill, Burfict, and Jones ALL had their jobs the following season after this melt down. If you were a good free agent would you want to play for this crap? This happened in a playoff game too. You get beat up all year long then three players can't keep their composure and cost their team it's entire season. The biggest insult was all kept their jobs the next season. Buried the culture of the franchise right there. Nobody good wants to come to Cincinnati to play.

I've also seen the officials decide not to throw a flag when certain players that play on certain teams with certain marketable quarterbacks take their helmets off and instead tell them to put it back on. Also bullshit. Throw. The. Flag.

Ossai shoving Mahomes while he was out of bounds cost the Bengals a shot at the Super Bowl, and I know he didn't get any sleep from that. That gave Kansas City the much-needed field position where Butker kicked the game-winning Field Goal to send the Chiefs to the Super Bowl where they eventually won. Had Ossai not committed a Personal Foul, the Bengals would have had another chance.

Not sure why the penalty in the Denver Minnesota game is that big of a deal. The QB was about to be sacked, and they would've still lost the down and burned a TO, and had an incomplete pass on the next play.
@twisted_mentat8810
@twisted_mentat8810 10 ай бұрын
Agreed - it even looked to me like the QB /was/ sacked (down by contact) before he got the pass off, but either way it'd still be 4th and forever. The rest are spot on though. Esp the brain-fart on the last one--either spike it or run a play.
@67L48
@67L48 10 ай бұрын
Exactly. Intentional grounding essentially isn't even a penalty. If the QB gets sacked, it's loss of down at the point of the sack. If the QB gets called for intentional grounding, it's loss of down at the point of the foul (would-be sack) -- the exact same result had he simply taken the sack. The "penalty" isn't a penalty at all -- it just restores what should have happened. A QB should never take a sack and should always throw it away -- worst case scenario is that the result is intentional grounding, which is literally no worse than had he taken a sack. I think in NCAA they add another 5 yards to make it an actual penalty (worse than having taken the sack).
@Thirdbase9
@Thirdbase9 10 ай бұрын
@@67L48 There is one slight addition as was seen in the last Bears penalty, a 10 second runoff the clock or burning a time out.
@67L48
@67L48 10 ай бұрын
@@Thirdbase9 But, again, that’s not a penalty. That merely creates the scenario of when a sack occurs. After a sack, there’s no way a team gets everyone back to the line, set, and ball snapped in less than 10 seconds. After a sack, a team is going to either waste ~10 seconds or take a time out. So, again, intentional grounding offers no penalty. It merely restores the condition had a sack occurred. There is almost no condition where taking a sack is a preferred option.
@PlanetHouston
@PlanetHouston 9 ай бұрын
I think the idea is that, had the grounding not been called, it would have been ruled an incomplete pass, which would have spotted the ball back at the original line of scrimmage. I agree that it probably should have been a sack, but the ruling on the field was that it was a pass attempt.

One that is missing is: 2022 in Week 12: Bengals are up 20-16, Tennessee is out of timeouts, and they concede the field goal try hoping to get the ball back. Cincinnati kicked a field goal that would have put them up 7, BUT...two players ran into the long snapper (who is a defenseless player in a kick situation). Cincinnati chose to accept the penalty...points come off the board, but Cincinnati is able to take 3 knees.

If im not mistaken, the browns doubled down on the PI mistake in the stafford injury game. Because stafford had been hurt he was supposed to sit out a play, but the browns called a timeout before the snap, allowing Stafford to come back in and finish the job. 10:32 Not that it mattered, but there should have been no intentional grounding on the Minnesota-Denver play. The replay showed that the quarterback's buttock hit the ground before the ball was out. Thus, it was only a sack and the time out should have only been due to a running clock, not to avoid a 10-second runoff. In the end, though, the result of the next play would have likely been the same.

Some of these are just showing your ignorance of sports. For some, the penalty made a HUGE DIFFERENCE in the outcome of the original play. A pass interference in the endzone clearly LED to the interception. Without it, for all we know, the offense catches the ball in the endzone. IT wasn't a costly penalty., IT was a costly ref SEEING the penalty. And an intentional grunding doesn't really cost the offense much. Without the intentional grounding, he would have gotten sacked. They still would have had to make a desperate hail mary on the last play. Like there really is a big difference between an 80 yard hail mary and a 90 yard hail mary. And same with the last -play. So, they didn't get their 1 in 200 chance of a 60+ yard hail mary touchdown. Wow! So costly!
