Don't forget Schefter released JPP's medical records that he "improperly obtained" after JPP blew his hand up; JPP sued him and settled. That kind of reporting says all you need to know about Schefter.

So Rapaport is saying he says “hey, this is what I’m reporting” and people can argue it, but he NEVER said he asks if they want to change, tweak, or modify the report. It’s why when Rapaport reports something, I trust it, when Schefty reports something, I use a grain of salt

@@spjr99 🤣 bro reports are either true or not. Wtf can they change in a report my guy. That's never been a thing where a reporter can fabricate something. It's funny because the fact that someone asked Schefter should I change anything about this. Could mean, time frames about something like let's say an injury or a player or a coach possibly on the hot seat. It could be legit something honest but the fact that ppl like you wanna make it into something else is just unfathomable. We don't know what it was but obviously the NFL wants something to report and reporters will jump on anything they can get there hands on

it's more about being unbiased and not having their source "tweak" their articles. it's not independent journalism if you parroting a biased source's biased views, which is against their code of ethics. the story in question was about the 2011 NFL lockout, so basically asking execs and management if they approve of his article is not even remotely unbiased.

There's a wide range of possibilities that range from making Shefter a great reporter to making him a puppet to the NFL owners. It's a little bit hard to tell from afar. One on end, you can send them the article so they see it without having them have a say on what's finally written. So like Rapsheet says they can argue their side and you consider it but the target of the piece still doesn't have any editing power over it. That's great. That's common curtesy. On the other end of the range, you send them the article and they change it completely and you just listen like an obedient puppy. Which one was it? It's hard to know. Calling him the editor sounds a little bit bad.

I agree, and it’s for self-preservation. You don’t want to go about a report, based on only a rumor, and have it confirmed that it wasn’t close to being true. It’s a case of would you rather have it done fast or done right. If you’re more right than you’re fast, you’re less likely to look like a fool. Get it confirmed by everyone involved then report it if necessary. There’s no need to risk your reputation just to get a story out fast. If you value yourself as a journalist, you value its process.

That is not what Rappaport said. 1) he calls and 2) reads the subject or the source the relevant information. If he feels it's warranted, he may change the language based on additional information given to him. He does not send the entire story asking the person to just make whatever changes they feel like, whether or not it's relevant to them or their involvement. It's a subtle difference perhaps, but it's a very important one.

That’s basically the end. If no one believes a word you say, then your reporting means nothing; it’s valueless. You might as well be working for a tabloid at that point. No legitimate journalistic outlet will go near you. You’re shot.

Don’t see the point in ESPN reporting on these emails when they probably have a bunch of staff past and present in them. The whole thing is shady… not to mention how those cheerleaders must feel. Hope everyone gets what they deserve

Schefter is a good dude, you’re making something that is nothing bigger then it really is. How would you like it if someone reported on how you prepare for your show over the last 5 years? Do you think people would agree with your methods, processes or the like?
