Great videos. How do you find the correct color paints for your projects? They always look spot-on.
@bradscustomsigns8585 Жыл бұрын
Thank you, I use a lot of Rustoleum spray, and in some cases, Home Depot has color codes for many pro sports teams that they will mix. For most projects, I get them to mix one of the 8oz samplers that is usually enough for a project

Very nice! Are you sealing the MDF before spray paint?
@bradscustomsigns8585 Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I will sometimes seal the cut edges with watered-down wood glue, but in most cases, I just do an extra layer or 2 if the paint until I'm satisfied with the color

Hey Brad, I found you from the C3D forums and had to immediately subscribe to your channel! Amazing work on all of your signs! Quick question, on a couple others that you did, after your last clear epoxy pour, you placed some type of board on top. What’s that board material and I assume it’s to help the epoxy cure without getting any dust or debris from the shop?
@bradscustomsigns8585 Жыл бұрын
thanks for the compliments, and you are correct, it is a piece of coroplast to catch potential floaters.

Would you recommend your cnc? Also what is the thickness of the mdf and the thickest your cnc cuts
@bradscustomsigns8585 Жыл бұрын
I have been very happy with the Shapeoko brand (I have the 3XXL), and there has been 3 model upgrades since I got mine. I cut 3/4" MDF on a regular basis, and the thickest I've cut through is 3" Cedar

By doing the epoxy topcoat would that make it safe for outdoor use?
@bradscustomsigns85856 ай бұрын
The backs are not protected with epoxy so I would say no

When you do pockets like this do you make the pockets wider
@bradscustomsigns85855 ай бұрын
no, I cut my pockets on the inside of the line, and the pieces on the outside of the line, no offsets

I'm going to try an epoxy pour on a 3d sign. Did you use a lot on this project? Did you have to sand drips off the back after?
@bradscustomsigns8585 Жыл бұрын
I believe I used around 600 ml, but I tend to waste a bit because I never want to risk running short. If you check my other videos, I have one that shows my process for drip cleanup.

Great video as always. I am learning alot. Do you get your MDF form a box store? I get mine from HD. The 1/2" seems better quality and more dense than the 3/4". Curious where you get yours.
@bradscustomsigns85857 ай бұрын
Thanks. The place I shop is called Windsor Plywood, and when it's available, I get the 3/4" in Platinum Grade (in the US look for HDF), it's much more dense than standard. Notice the darker color in the MDF in the base of this piece, that is not the higher grade, so extra layers of color were needed on this project to achieve the opaque color required.

How do you clean the epoxy out of the squeeze bottles you use, or are they junk? Thx
@bradscustomsigns8585 Жыл бұрын
I get them for about 65 cents each, so at that price, not worth the effort to clean

What material do you use as the cover before painting your edges, at the 2:45 mark?

What did you use to glue the pieces? I just finished a sign but I used 1/2in MDF and I'm worried that is too heavy and it might fall off with just titebond 3. Thanks!
@bradscustomsigns858511 ай бұрын
when I do layers like this, I use a product called Roo Glue. It's a Melamine glue that sets up quickly. If you find me on Facebook, and send me some pictures of your project, I'd be happy to give you an opinion on what I might do

Hello I have another. What kind of glue you use to glue the letters on and did you cut out a pocket for the letters to sit in?
@bradscustomsigns8585 Жыл бұрын
@@rickycurry574 I use Roo Glue, it has a fast setup time, and oozes into the nooks and crannies (and out if you're too heavy). And yes, I cut a .015" pocket for the letters, but this is les about a puzzle fit and more about alignment. At this depth there is lees of an issue with those tight inside/outside corners from the round endmills
