This is why KZbin is so awesome: You can relive things like the moment before Ryan Leaf and Peyton Manning began their notable (for obviously different reasons) careers. Also, we get to experience Seifert’s infamous broadcasting career.

I was young to witness what seems to be a tirefire of a journey. But he barely talked, and when he did he seemed drunk or uniterested. The drunk criticism was made to Summerall also, but he was interested in the game at least. George couldn't care less, riding the coattails of a great team that fgell on his lap once Bill Walsh retired

Great clip! I do have a correction though, CBS had the doubleheader in Week 1 of the '98 season. I remember the CBS station in my area showed Oilers Bengals and then the Jets/49ers. This intermission show aired between games for those 1 PM games that had ended.

This was CBS's very first NFL Today as the AFC network after they picked up that package from NBC.

+epzik8 I read on Wikipedia that NBC and CBS traded each others sports rights in 1998 after the season (1997 NFL season) that NBC and CBS wanted trade: NBC got 2002,2006 and 2010 winter Olympics for CBS carried the AFC rights that they hold to this day, and is a win-win for both NBC and CBS and FYI love the 98 NFL Today set!

that's true. All of my life before this, the AFC games were on NBC. Broncos-Packers in Super Bowl 31 was NBC's last NFL broadcast with the AFC contract

+Brad James Although CBS has done great with the AFC, it's still strange not to see the NFC on CBS and the AFC on NBC. Plus Monday Night Football on ABC.

richie bee 49ers won it 36-30 in OT, when Garrison Hearst broke off a 96-yard gallop to end it. That game was a serious barn-burner; Jets lost, but for CBS it was a great and entertaining way to relaunch their NFL coverage.

Love that they used the old NFL Today theme
@JHollowayNetwork2 жыл бұрын
That's the 1998 version of "Horizontal Hold", then for the 1999-2000 season they used another remix of the theme and then they made the NFL on CBS theme also serve as the theme for The NFL Today respectively for the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons respectively before bringing back the 1998 theme for the 2002-03 season then paving the way of "Posthumus Zone" (which served as the theme for both The NFL Today and NFL on CBS since '03).

they did not have a naming rights deal locked yet. And when they locked one, it was a disaster (PSINet, dotcon bubble). Now they are stable with M&T Bank

Marcus Allen's in the Hall of Fame. Brent Jones has won 3 Super Bowls with the 49ers, and 2 of them were under George Seifert's tenure as 49ers head coach. Do you think Brent and George should get Pro Football Hall of Fame inductions?

These nfl pre game shows suck now. There are too many people at the table saying too much non sense. It was way better when it was a 30min show with 2 maybe 3 guys talking. Now you have 5 or 6 guys can barely fit everyone on the set and it's all scripted
