I have a real soft spot for the 1995-1997 theme, but would've loved to see NBC keep this theme around for the playoffs, it has a lot more of a dramatic feel to it that's perfect for do-or-die games, while the later theme is more upbeat and a great mood setter for those Sunday afternoon regular season games.

It's ok, the 49ers we're on NBC up to twice a year against AFC teams at Candlestick Park.

Ah the Paul Tagliabue days. Sad to say, but that was quite the time for the NFL. Maybe that's just nostalgia speaking, but the 90s were amazing for the NFL.

1994 was such a terrific season in the NFL. So many storylines, so many great games. The rise of the Patriots. Elway vs. Montana. Chicago winning a playoff game, despite having a terrible team. Final playoff game at the Dawg Pound. Steve Young's first Super Bowl ring as starting quarterback. Stoyanavich pushing a kick wide left in the playoffs against San Diego. Chargers make their first visit to the Superbowl. Butkus and Sayers having their numbers retired in a monsoon on Halloween Night at Soldier Field.

Living in AZ we would get the Chargers games. 1994 was like watching a big play reel. Couple it with this theme....man it was something. The new theme in 95 really did suck some of the fun out of the NBC games.

This theme was great. Their new theme in 1995 made games a lot of fun as well. Both great themes. I remember being slight disappointed when this theme went away and heard the new Edelman theme watching Broncos and Cowboys in 1995, but that theme grew on me and I loved it. Love this one as well.

Looks like they advertised a misleading image of a 49ers and Falcons game. Only AFC vs. AFC or NFC vs. AFC games were allowed on NBC. NBC never did NFC vs. NFC. That's misleading. But I love this theme. I'm using for one of my fantasy football themes this year!

The problem with today's NBC coverage is the fact that they brand it as an event. They have a fantastic theme song but they don't use it enough, because they use the stupid singing intro. They should create a graphic open based around their actual theme song and call it like "NFL on NBC Sunday Night Showcase" instead of the very generic "Sunday Night Football"

Super Bowl XXVIII, the first game this theme was used in, the fourth consecutive Super Bowl loss for the Buffalo Bills and the second consecutive loss to Jimmy Johnson and the Dallas Cowboys.

And in the preseason of 1995, did they have the same graphics they used in the 1994 season, or were they using the 1995 season graphics with the 1994 theme.

Graphics didn’t change much between 1994 and 95, mainly the font slightly changed. NBC remixed that graphics set in 1997 to make them more “hip” but I don’t think they did a good job as the graphics looked tackier than the 93-96 version. In 98 after losing the NFL they overhauled the graphics

I would guess the 94 theme was used in the preseason, that was the usual practice until recently, I remember CBS still using its 2005 graphics in the 2006 preseason.

They scrapped their themes after the 1992 and 1993 seasons as well for game intro music. They only kept Gridiron dreams for NFL Live pregame and Halftime shows for 1992 that they used for both game intros and halftime shows 1989 to 1991. I guess Dick Ebersol could not make up his mind on a theme when he took over NBC Sports until they settled on the Randy Edelman 1995-1997 theme which only lasted to 1997 because NBC lost their NFL contract after 1997 or otherwise the Randy Edelman theme used from 1995-1997 probably would have lasted a lot longer.

It was its own theme I think that just happened to have NBC chimes implemented into it? Or was it specifically based on an NBC chimes theme?
